View Full Version : Dream Features on the Site

I think that DSP is an amazing place with loads of features and lots of great stuff, but sometimes I can see features I would love to have...(or we already have and someone helpful will tell me "Duh, woman, where have you been!")
If you could have any new features on the site (Gallery, Forums, Store)... what would you ask for?
Store:
Preferences so you can set things like: 12x12 or 8x10 plopper, quick clicks, etc. AND NOW 200dpi or 300dpi
The ability to add to cart from any list of store items without leaving the page I'm on and without going to the cart. I'd shop a lot quicker and a lot more efficiently if I had that :D
The store warning me when I've bought something. There's a list down the side, but I have so many items it is really not that helpful for me to check. I'd like that store to come back and say OOPS you already have that do you really want to buy it again?
It would be even better if I could add my freebies to the list of things I own also - sort of like an inventory.
Oh - an while I'm dreaming, it would create my pretty links :yahoo:
Oh - the advanced search feature would not require 0's in the date (eg it asks for 01/01/2009 and won't accept 1/1/2009)
Oh and the ability to store my coupons to use so I don't have to hunt them down - how great would that be. And a warning system when they are about to expire. (I mean, I would have shopped the day some of my coupons expired if I'd remembered :D)
Galleries:
I'd like the ability to bookmark a friend's gallery so I can always pop over to it and see what they've been up to :) (I suppose I could just subscribe to their gallery)
Forums:
A personal challenge calendar that will prompt me and let me know what is 'due for the week.'
I wish it would store my credit card info (or at least give me the option to do it). I always like shopping at places online that don't require me to find my purse and pull out my credit card and type in that annoyingly long number....yeah, I know I'm lazy! :)
And I 2nd the request to be able to add directly to the cart from the wishlist/regular store without leaving the page.

Yes, Tara - I agree on the credit card. I was buying so much so often I was forced to setup a paypal account, which I love and now use everywhere!!

I agree - I'd like to have Tara's CC stored on my account too!!!!:rofl::rofl:
OK - so if it has to be mine, it would be nice to have it there all the time. That way I wouldn't have to sneak down to get my purse while hubby's in the bathroom...
I'd also like the wish list as mentioned above. I use it on BIG sales and it takes forever and if were quicker, it might not bog the site down so much...:love2: :love2: or I wouldn't get frustrated and might shop more...
And the personal challenge reminder calendar would be nice too.
And...
And...
And...

Oh I third that request about the cart in the store! I wish I didn't always have to go from my wish list or wherever and click on add to cart twice just to get it in there, then I have to go through the whole wish list search again... sigh.
I use paypal, so my credit card info is there, I just have to choose which one I want to use. Easy peasy.
I also would love something telling me that I've already purchased something, too.
And I don't know how to subscribe to a members gallery or to view them once you've added someone as a friend. I tried that with my sisters gallery and we used to be able to do that, but something changed and now we can't. At least, I can't see how we do that...
A delete button in the upload photos section...like if click upload and when it's in the bulk uploads screen you decide you don't want it anymore, you can delete from there without it being in your queue and back in the bulk uploads screen EVERY time you upload other photos/layouts/whatever.
A personal challenge calendar would be awesome, as I usually have a table in Word set up to remember my challenges...sometimes I miss them altogether because I can't find them again and forget (usually the month long challenges). If I don't see a new post about the challenge in the new posts section, I usually forget it exists.
That's it. DSP is very efficient, so these changes just make it super efficient...if they can be done.

haha - some of these requests remind us that we really need to get a life - oh wait WE HAVE ONE HERE AT DSP!

A personal challenge calendar that will prompt me and let me know what is 'due for the week.'
I forth this one. I would LOVE a DSP calendar that I could manipulate however I want and input the challenges I'm doing as well as the goals I have set for myself (this year at DSP is heavy on goal setting, isn't it?).
I like the idea of the store prompting me if I have already bought an item, but only if I can manual add items as well because I get a number of items for free from designer challenges that are later available in the store.

it does store your credit card details I jsut have to put the first number of mine in and it auto fills
oh and I definitely would love this one as lynnie said
The ability to add to cart from any list of store items without leaving the page I'm on and without going to the cart. I'd shop a lot quicker and a lot more efficiently if I had that
it totally bugs me all the back clicking I have to do
As for the calendar...I know this isn't the same thing, but I use Google calendar and I really like it. I mean, you have to go outside of DSP to use it (oh the torture! LOL!) but you can add different events really easily and have things in different colors (so if you have a life outside of DSP, you could have those events in a different color)...or you could assign different challenges a different color. You might wanna check it out...
it does store your credit card details I jsut have to put the first number of mine in and it auto fills
Is this to do with the store or your web browser?
I have the same thing when loading to MM .... it auto fills when I put the 1st letter or number in.
I would love a feature in the gallery where you can see the latest layouts from your friends/contact list.
I am finding it real hard to think of stuff that I would want though, this site runs pretty smoothly ..... as others have said something to let me know if I already have a kit or not. Thats about it. I usually buy gift certs and use them cos I am a "Oh I need this for a LO" and buy one thing at a time kinda girl.

Even though the list of your items is at the side, I also have already purchased the same item twice, especially if I had gotten it as a posting freebie. Even if we could add them manually like someone else mentioned would be great.
Also agree with everyone else about clicking back and forth from wish list to cart and back and forth, would be nice to not have to do that.

Some hints for those who really want to the store to provide the ability to click and add to cart - there are some workarounds that I use:
If you are buying new products, when you go to the top store drop down menu and select new products it brings a different list than the one you get from the left hand side of the page. This list will open up the item you click on in a new window and you can add to cart and close the window. This way you don't have to back click to your original place.
The other thing I do for sales and whatever else where I'm going through bunches of things. I right click on the item and open in a new tab or new window and then add to cart and close it.
They aren't optimal, but they do get me through shopping a lot quicker :) and it sounds as though we are a bunch of shoppers here.
I think it is a 100% that we all want Tara's credit card added to our accounts, though. I love that enhancement.

I think the auto fill is a browser related thing. IE did it for me but Firefox doesn't seem to - at least not for me, but I'm still new to it and there may be an option I can change. I'm not a huge fan of auto fill for credit card numbers anyway.
Thanks for the tip about the second window, Lynnie, when shopping. That's a good one and I'll use it.

Oh - an while I'm dreaming, it would create my pretty links :yahoo: end quote
Kathleen posted a link to an excel sheet she created in one of the forums quite a while back- for me I cannot live without it. It creates all the pretty hyperlinks for me- I just cut and paste to post credits. The added benefit is I have a running inventory list that I can sort by designer, type of kit, overlay etc- I know if it was a freebie, purchase or blog item. I always check it before I shop- because I have bought things twice...tooo many times.
I am going to search and see if I can find that link for you it would tackle 3 of your wish list items, pretty links, an inventory, and an easy way to prevent double purchases.
I echo everyones sentiment on all the double clicking to get something into my cart!

I created a spread sheet too and I can add everything to my spread sheet with pretty links by running macros on my order. I have so much stuff though, that it takes me forever to shop. I have to look up so much stuff and I still end up buying twice because I neglected to add a freebie or I spelled it wrong in my search. What I have works for the most part, but I'm a lazy shopper, I don't want to look things up LOL.

I would love to be able to shop without clicking back and forth, I would also love the warning if I'm about to purchase something for a second time.
But what I'd really love is an option to have my LO's printed, bound into an album and shipped to me.
Oh yeah, and Tara's credit card details automatically filled in on my account.

Oh - I thought of another one. I would probably get through a lot more comments on layouts if I didn't have to scroll down to the comment box all the time. I don't usually read other people's comments too often! - so an easy to reach comment box on layouts.

DITTO, DITTO, DITTO . . . .especially the part of Duh . ... you already have that one . . ..
I use PayPal . .. so that part is just waaaaaay too easy
And have asked for this before . .... add directly to the cart from wish list . .. .this one actually drives me crazy . .... and I am sure I have missed purchasing something that I wanted because of the extra step required . .... so in the end the designers lose on that one!!! Please fix that!!! We would all benefit.
I would like Tara's credit card tooo . ... would be much easier on mine!!!!

I will pass on the store info to Kim. I know many of these items we have requested from the developer so its just a matter of time before we get our requests filled I think.
with the CC thing...ladies! come on! don't you have your CC# memorized???? I certainly do!
With the challenge calendar - I agree with Tara. Would it be helpful to have all the items on a DSP Google calendar that you can add to your own Google Calendar (like the scrapolution calendar?) or would you rather just set it up yourself?
The autofill is a browser thing. I also use Sxipper with Firefox and it automatically fills in all of my info on all my sites (when I tell it to) even my CC info.

I'd like to be able to subscribe to a member gallery - as far as I can work out you can only subscribe to challenge galleries but not individual members. It would make it much easier to keep track of mentees and friends if you could subscribe.
I agree with direct shopping from the wishlist without having to go away from it all the time.
I DO NOT want the store to keep my credit card details - I actually avoid shopping at places that store my details.
I don't see what the problem you all have with that is - haven't you memorised your card details yet???? :)

LOL Amanda - great minds!
YES to Google Calendaring everything - that was something I meant to mention. I use it all the time to keep track of family members and I've just added the scapolution calendars to mine. How easy was that - just hit the +Google button at the bottom then it asked me which ones I wanted to add - that's it! Done! No individual event copying for me.

Thanks Amanda - just remember these are dreams!! We are obviously managing to buy just fine the way we are LOL.
Although I think the most universal dream is having the store remember Tara's credit card on all of our accounts!! Second to that, adding to the card directly from the list without having to visit the cart. This seems to be from a feeling that we can't spend our money fast enough.
The other thing that perhaps DSP needs to implement is a "you really need to get a life" hotline. Or maybe not :D
Amanda
01-02-2009, 04:04 PM
Well call the store number anytime and I'll give you the "get a life" line. Oh wait...nevermind...I'll talk you into buying more :D Is that even possible?
Lynnie
01-02-2009, 04:16 PM
Oh - the other feature I forgot is that we need is to auto deliver all new products to our shopping cart, check them out with our pre-stored credit card information and auto download them to our computer, pre-filling our spreadhseets with pretty links. it should skip the ones we got for freebs when completing a challenge!

I definitely like the ideas of one click add-to-cart while shopping and an "OOOPS! YOU'VE ALREADY BOUGHT THAT!!" warning. Maybe the ability to sort individual designers' products by date added?? Not sure if this is already a feature that I just haven't found yet, though. :o
The Challenge calendar idea is a great one, too! :applause:
In the gallery, if MY dream came true, I would LOVE to have the same editing controls as we do for the forums...for making the links, especially!! And I'll echo Lynnie's desire for an easier-accessed comment box.
Other than that, I think DSP is perfect! :D

What a great thread! I've stopped using the wish list altogether because I think it is actually "more work".
Someone earlier mentioned the scrolling in gallery pages to post a comment. I think it would be great if the new comment box was right under the description information.
And if we are really dreaming... currently, lets say you are looking at the member gallery with 90 little thumbnails, one catches your eye, you click on it, leave a comment, press submit. You now have to push the back button twice to get back to the gallery view. It would be nice to somehow only go back once. Somehow it works in the forum that way (and I know the forum and gallery are run by different pieces of software).
, it would be great if when you posted a comment on a LO, and submitted it, then hit your back button, it would go back to

I'd like the ability to bookmark a friend's gallery so I can always pop over to it and see what they've been up to (I suppose I could just subscribe to their gallery
My work around for this one is that I have added a single layout to my favorites gallery of the members whose work really inspires me. I simply click on the layout in my favorites gallery and then on the "see this users gallery"- for me its easy to catch up on their work if I have been away from the gallery for a bit.
Google calendar?? That sounds great, I'm going to go check it out right now.

I have always thought there should be a way to mark favorite things from within DSP, either favorite forum posts or galleries, but realized after a while I can just use my browser bookmarks to accomplish the same. I have a holder on my bookmarks toolbar for only DSP links.
As for a specific users gallery:
Psst! DSP provides a shortcut to YOUR gallery to share with friends and family! http://username.digitalscrapbookplace.com!
So replace username with your friends name, and bookmark the page!

I'm pretty sure you can't. At the bottom of all other galleries is a subscribe button but not when you're in member galleries. I wish there was.
I've thought of something else
I'd like to be able to sort my favourites better - by username so I can find things for the member spotlight scraplift for instance. I know you can sort by date and such but somehow it doesn't always seem to work right. This only becomes an issue of course when you have a lot of favourites.

Well, LadyCarolyn pointed out there is a post a comment link right under the description and that opens up a comment box with a thumbnail. I love it I love it I love it. SO.... If you are scrolling through your 90 pages, you find one you want to comment on, right click and open it in another tab, click on post a comment, do your comment and close it - it is pretty darn close to my wish list :)

Well I'll be..... learn something new everyday! Love the way she does it- thanks for posting, it is sure to save me all that back clicking...
Wow!! Lots of Great Thoughts :)
A few things... maybe more as I read through.
We don't store credit cards but rely on a secure third party to process our card needs :) This is for the safety of our customers. We do know there are browser addons that will do this for you should you choose to go that route. Amanda uses Sxipper with Firefox and really likes it. :)
Tara... do you shop at Amazon? Can I use your card there?! :) LOLOL
About the current wishlist, we realize it isn't the best (it really wasn't intended for stores like the one we have) and will have a look to see what else we can implement to ease your wishing and shopping pleasure... unless you just want all the new stuff... :) (We will also look in to the possibility of having it able to categorize to whatever lists you might like)
But for now we have now set up little icons at the tops of the pages for Kaboodle and Wish Pot and you are welcome to try those for making your wishlists.
It would be so cool to just fill your carts with the newest ... LOL ... wouldn't that be a great feature! You might need to take out a loan because there is a lot going in lately! :)
It would be so nice if we could have things add right to your cart at the store, but because there are options on many of the products, this could possibly put the wrong option in your cart, so this is for your ordering well-being also. Now that we have the 300 choice on many of the products, we even have more choices in the mix. I have some thoughts about items that only have one choice but this would take some specializing the cart... so no promises :)
I love the idea about a warning coming up if something was already bought! You wouldn't be able to add to that list because it would only correlate with your previous purchases and order history... cool idea!
You spreadsheet chics are my kinds of gals!! :) LLLOOOVVEEE spreadsheets!! :) No promises, but another thing that would be cool is the ability to click and download a report that you could then put in to your spreadsheets :)
Phew... I am exhausted!!
P.S.... You want it WHEN??!! As with any great ideas, realize the store is vast and complex... we are happy to consider these items... we cannot guarantee they will work with the software and it won't be tomorrow. :)
P.P.S.... for the coupons, you could use a tickler file on your desktop :) just print the code information and file it under a date 2 weeks before the expiration and you will be reminded when you get to that date that you need to use it up. :)

Is there any way to make the store number of the item part of the download or to appear on the page with the item description when we download?
I understand the designers don't know what the # will be so it cant be included in the file name. Or is my only option to download and then go back to my account history and view the detailed invoice to capture the store dsp #? ( I tag all my files in acdsee with the store number for posting credits) just wondering if there is an easier way than what I currently do.
By the way- I have noticed LOTS of changes, improvements and evolutions at DSP over the last 3 1/2 years- so thank you Kim- you do your job very very WELL! I also think its great that the administrators listen to the members- I hadn't found that to be the case at other sites- just another reason I live at DSP exclusively now.

I would like it if when adding something from the wish list into the cart for purchase, the item automatically deleted from the wishlist...And I'm thnking this would work well with the cart as it currently stands....at the point to confirm the order, if you decided not to purchase a certain item, then there should be a button "RETURN ITEM TO WISH LIST" available.
A cart with items left in it , unpurchased, ( gasp, shudder at the thought !) would clear and all items automatically be sent to the wish list. ( I know this is tiny, but sometimes our cart does time out when the house has caught on fire, the kids are drowning in the toilet bowl, an airplane has landed on the front porch.. you know, those minor details that may prevent us from hitting the CONFIRM ORDER button. )
Ohhh...thank you for reminding me about that feature :) I had it on the order download page at one time. :) it would give the DSP keyword alongside the other product information. :)
Is there any way to make the store number of the item part of the download or to appear on the page with the item description when we download?
I understand the designers don't know what the # will be so it cant be included in the file name. Just my twisted way of letting you know the type of disaster it would take to prevent the average DSP shopper from NOT HITTING THE CONFIRM ORDER BUTTON.
But I really would still like items moved from the wish list to the shopping cart to automatically disappear from the wish list.

Sherry there is a super easy way to find out the item number. Here is one of my kits:
http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=9553
See the 9553 at the end of the link, that is the item number, so for a keyword, you would do the 9553dsp. There are 2 easy ways to see this. 1) go to the actual page where you would buy the product and up in your address bar is the link or 2) on the thumbnails page, hover over the item and down at the bottom of your browser window, in that bar, it should say what the link is, so you can just look there.

Kim, I noticed this on a recent order... this is new right??? I haven't been looking right by it for a year have I?
If it is indeed new, great addition!!
It is new in that area, it was higher up for quite some time :) I hope it is helpful to you! :)

Kim, speaking of new features and changes ...
I have noticed that the "This product was added to our catalog on ..." line that has appeared on product pages is now not always there.
Examples:
In Meryl's new Mandy Page Kit (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_18&products_id=9597), it is there.
But, in Tina's My Comfortable Jeans page kit (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_18&products_id=9591), it is not.
To me this is really helpful information, it helps me know if I need to check if I already own it!

Regarding the above, I started poking around a little more. The information is actually there, but the text is white, like the page background so you can't see it. I highlighted the text on the page, and then I can see it.
So now, I wonder is it something on my computer, or is it something with the store, or the way certain designers add the information?

Kathleen, I know the top one has been there for awhile. I used to get all my keywords from there until I realized that the sale kits (IOTW) have different keywords than the "regular priced" kit. Now I make sure that if it is IOTW, I get the correct keyword. I've noticed the ones in the lower sections for some time but I haven't paid close enough attention to them to notice if they are there for all the designers or not. HTH a little.

Thanks for the reply, Diane! I should have been more clear in my post. I was talking about the "This product was added to our catalog on ..." not the keyword info. That I can see just fine, and am quite happy about!!
Fixed that Kathleen :) If you ever see it again, please let me know. :)

When there are choices, I would like the default size on ploppers and instant albums to be 12x12. I have added to my cart too many times without double checking and end up with the wrong size. I think 12x12 would be the one used more often wouldn't it?
That is a good thought, Mars. Unfortunately these items now have double the choices :) 4 options for the ploppers and instant albums ... the 8x10 (or 10x8) at 200ppi or 300ppi and the 12x12 at 200ppi or 300ppi.... Some may prefer the 200ppi 12x12s and some may prefer the 300ppi 12x12s...
Choices... a double edged sword... LOLOL

Boy, would I love that reminder that I have already bought a kit. I have bought several for the second time. ( Maybe I am buying too much.)
I would like someway that a pretty link is attached to the little notebook in each kit we buy. Then you would just have to copy and paste it into your credits. That would be the easiest for me.
A coupon bank would be great. It would be a place where all our coupons could be held and not get lost.
I am also kind of challenged when it comes to knowing how to do things on here. When new things are added, could complete directions be added for those of us who are kind of new and really don't know how to do it. I still can't figure our how to add the flair buttons and haven't been able to fine how anyway on here.
That is my wish list.

:rofl: LadyC, I do EXACTLY the same thing! And I, too, would really love that plug in! It's ok, when I'm buying just a couple things, but during sales I tend to get a bit indulgent. . . and it takes a while to download 20-30 items one at a time hehe
One other thought I have, in addition to the ones already mentioned (esp that *doh, you already bought this one! message!) is that it would be nice when I deleted an item from my wishlist, if it didn't send me back to the first page of the wishlist! Of course, if it could automatically delete from the wishlist when I bought something, that would serve the same purpose. . .
I do have an "ethics question" of sorts: On those frequent occasions when I discover I have indeed purchased something already in my stash, I'd like to "give" it to a particular single mom neophyte scrapper who doesn't have a lot of disposable income. As long as she understands that she can't pass them along, and needs to abide by the terms of use, etc, is this ok? Or is it a violation of the terms of use, too?

the plug in is called download them all. you can search on the mozilla page (it's a firefox add on).
if you purchase a kit twice, you could pass it on as a gift as long as you completely delete the second copy.

since we are wishing....
I wish my wishlist had more than 10 per page, and looked more like my shopping cart does, with a little thumbnail and a horizontal format.
I also *wish* I could look at my wishlist and simply check off multiple items to add to my cart at once.
I often wait for a sale, see what is on my wishlist that is on sale, and go back and forth adding those items.
I wish, when I added an item to my cart, it deleted it from my wishlist, or had the option to look at my wishlist and delete multiple items at a time.
Mind you, these are just wishes... nothing wrong with dreaming, I am still going to shop either way.. and have been enjoying all the recent updates to the site.

I didn't know...
I just discovered I could download my favorites file to my computer.
It makes it soo much easier to scraplift, since I can open the layout photo as I work on my own.
(My goal this year is to scraplift at least half of the 300 layouts in my favorites gallery)
Don't know how long that little feature has been right under my nose, but thanks- I am enjoying that option.

I just read this thread through again and discovered a couple of things I didn't know--great tips, all!
I've become a fan of the monthly Forgotten Treasures challenge and would love a store search feature that would give me the beginning and ending store number for a given month (you have no idea how much easier it would be for me to update my product database and ACDSee files with that info!).

I haven't read this entire thread, so maybe someone else mentioned this, butI'd love it if the allowable file size that we can upload could be increased to 150k. Lately, it seems that I have had to reduce the quality/size of quite a few layouts to get them under 125k

In the store, when we click on an kit, I wish all the relating kits by that designer also showed up. Like if you clicked on Nicole's Giggleland kit, all her Giggleland kits (and alphas if it had one) would show up as related kits. That way if you chose a kit that you liked, you would be able to tell if there were AOP, BB, Alphas, etc. to go with it.

I kinda skimmed, but I do find it annoying that when I add something to my shopping cart from my wish list, it still sits there. Actually, I almost bought something twice because of that.
Also, I'd like dsp numbers to be searchable in the store.
On the accounts page, maybe a way to bring up the order summaries and not just the order number/date. I know when I almost bought a kit I already had, I was trying to find it in my files and double checking my orders (I think I had somehow missed downloading it, but I remembered buying it). I had to search for the kit by going individually through all my old orders one by one-- and I kept loosing track of where I ended, etc. Luckily I don't buy too many kits but if I did, it would have been even more frustrating.
I have to say there have been many great improvements in the site- the calendar, the wishlist and changes to the cart and many great features that have stayed the same... like the great customer support.

When we were asked recently to post about DSP at the "digishop talk" site.....I found a feature there I loved. When making a "pretty link" you add in the link and it makes a box instead of seeing the link right away. You then click on the box and type in what you want the link to say.....no more having to type out the "name you want". VERY cool time saver!!!

Well, blow me away. I just started playing with all of the options and I see what you are talking about. I had no idea we could do it that way. I've been manually typing in all of the "url's and equal signs and slashes and spaces" this whole time. Thanks, but that won't bring up your order information.... if you click on it it takes you to the kit in the store. I thought that list just held a certain number of your previous purchases?
What I was talking about was a way to see more of your order information- so I could find the kit and when I had ordered it (the order number). I was just going manually through each order and openning them one by one, but then when I'd go back to the main screen I could never remember where I left off/
Of course, maybe the store team is so awesome they can just do it by the kit information, but I automatically assumed they would need my order number.

By saying this, I am letting everyone know what a bean counter I am...:love2:
I have cut and pasted all my orders into a word doc from the time I started ordering at DSP. I refuse to say how many pages that is. As a result, when I want to know if I purchased a kit I can do cntrl find and do a search.
A much better way is using Kathleen's excel spreadsheet, which she's formulated to automatically show "pretty links" for credits.
You can find that thread here (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28895&highlight=spreadsheet)
Hope this helps...
LOL - I just sent Kathleen a PM asking where that pesky spreadsheet was hiding! :)
I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned before, but I would love a way to to quickly "add to cart" instead of having to click on an image, click on "add to cart", it takes you to a new page, then you have to go back two pages to get where you were. If I look at a list of new products (or any products!), it would be great to have an option where I could just click a number of boxes and POW! they would all be added to my cart.
And Jenni - I'm glad you figured that trick out. I was about to write to you!

Jessica, I think the previous purchases is your last 300 purchases. I started keeping a spreadsheet that I keep anything i get from DSP in. If it is a purchase, I can copy and paste right from the store download page (or to build your history you can go into your order history), and I have written formulas so designer, store number, etc., are all parsed out. I posted a thread about it: Giving Credit and Posting Links Made Easier (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28895&) - read the first post, and the link to post #93 for instructions. I use Excel, but it also works with Open Office. Depending on your spreadsheet version and browser/browser version, you may have to do a little trial and error with pasting information from the store, but just let me know if you have any problems and I will help.

I thought of one today as I was organizing all my new kits. I was a bit overwhelmed because I had a lot to do. There are a few things that I do to organize my kits by renaming a select few files. If other scrappers often do this too, the designers could 'help'. I think using a little more standardizing in creating all those kits (especially the preview file) would be even more awesome.
I DO have to say, that of the limited other sites that I sometimes get stuff from, DSP is almost allready there with all the standardization and DSP kits ARE about the easiest for me to deal with(-; I'm so PLEASED that at dsp I unzip and everything is just in one folder, all nice an organized(-:
For my main organizational tip.... I have a folder that has all the preview/sample sheets from all my kits-- so I go through the previews really quick and help select what kit to use. It really helps and it is fairly easy to do, but I manually go through my 'new' kits and change that pretty preview/summary file to read, in part:
KitName.sample
Then I make a copy of the preview file and place that in my previews folder. So if I want to look through my kits I can scan through my previews and then I can find the kit by its name.
For almost all dsp kits this just means that I add the word "sample" to that particular file name- and many already use preview or sample and I don't even have to do it. I happened to choose 'sample' because thats what most of my kits used.... but I know that sample preview and folder are used quite commonly.
It would be great if this was done by the designer before bundling up the kits-- especially if LOTS of people already do this.
In addition, I also try to rename any wordart files so that they say WA or wordart and often a keyword for what the wordart says... (so if it is "beautiful summertime" I'll rename it WA.summer.png) so if I search for "WA" or "summer" it comes up. Lots of DSP kits already have the WA and many also use a 'keyword', again, really useful, especailly since I use picasa and it will search these out easy peasy..
Finally, the other thing I look for is templates or frames, because I need all the help I can(-; and I often rename those within a kit with a "template" or 'frame' in the file name so if I search Picasa it will bring up lots of them.
So although there is a lot of standardization at DSP, I wish there could be a bit more... and I'm sure there are maybe others that are higher priority for those of you that do lots of scrapping. ANd I know that different sites use different terms for things like ploppers, quickpages, templates, etc... so it is a bit of a HUGE dream, but that's what this thread is for(-;
I LOVE that at DSP the kits are organized in a fairly common way because I can navigate it better and find things. Like that each designer has a 'number'.
I personally don't find the AOP vs K etc after the designer number very relevant, I'd prefer just them being organized by kit names, so all the "Sets" show up together... but I think that is just my personal preference. I was creating a little "shortcut" to the matching kits, but that wasn't working very well when I had to move stuff around, lol.
I think I'll eventually figure out a way to do that better. I think I've finally settled on my system for organizing, and I'm sure it will change- when this because my full time hobby, I'm sure I'll invest in something and my methods will change, but I still can't forsee not wanting to use the 'previews' as a major sorting and searching tool. And trying to pick a keyword for the word art, also seems pretty useful.
That's my dream, but of course, I think also there is lots of individuality in how we all organize(-;

PS I've been spending too much time organizing and not enough time scrapping

I ditto Tara. I want an easier way to add to my cart while browsing. Other than that I don't realy have complaints.
