Week 2 – January 12 to January 18 – Simon Says

This is a Bonus Challenge Week – in other words, I’m nominating a kit for you to use.

I have given you two Bonus Challenge kits to choose from Traveling On (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=8130) or Sweet As Apple Pie (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=9109). Just choose one to scrap with and if you don’t already have either of these you can purchase them by clicking the links. Remember you don’t have to use the nominated kits you can use any of our great DSP products. BUT if you want to get the free bonus you do have to use the nominated kit.

Note: I will accept a small amount of other DSP product with either of the nominated kit but the LO has to be predominantly the nominated kit :-)

Instructions:

Choose a ‘vintage’ photo of a women/s only, original photo MUST be in sepia or B&W tones only, no colour on it. If you don’t have any family heritage/vintage photos take a look here (http://www.art-e-zine.co.uk/vintageresources.html) please credit any photo/site you use that isn’t your own stock. All stock on the site link I have given you is free to use for personal use.
You can either:

re-colour the whole photo with the chosen colour or
spot colour a part of the photo, for instance if the women is wearing a hat, gloves etc re-colour that/those portions only – NOTE: If you choice to spot colour have the rest of you photo sepia or B&W if it isn’t already.

ALL nominated kit/s LO’s HAVE to be placed in Erica’s Lucky Dips Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../gallery/showgallery.php?cat=6498) or if you are not using this kit it can do extra duty somewhere else but I will need a link to your LO in this forum.

If you’re not using the nominated kit/s, you can use ANY DSP kit/elements, freebies or from your current stash (must only be DSP products)

Please vote on the colour theme you’d like to use, there are 4 choices and the one with the most votes by Midnight Sunday 11 January will be this week’s colour theme. If no theme is voted for I will be Simon this week and say what colour we’ll use :)

What this means is that we will create a layout using one of the following based on your poll

Reds (includes all shadings down to pink)
Greens (all shades)
Yellows (all shades)
Blues (all shades)

Depending on the polled choice, please follow the required instructions as noted above.

You can use ANY DSP kit/elements, freebies or from your current stash (must only be DSP products)

If anything is not clear please just ask any questions here file:///C:/Users/Riki/AppData/Local/Temp/msoclip1/01/clip_image001.gif

I'm looking forward to seeing your layouts for this weeks challenge and I hope you enjoy playing along.

I would love to hear of any theme/s you might like to try here, I'll place it in the Simon Says barrel and then have a poll and the most voted on will be the next months Simon Says weekly theme and you can also help run it or not, that's up to you.

Some really simple rules:

Please use only DSP products or only the Traveling On or Sweet As Apple Pie Kit if you want to be eligible for this week’s free exclusive bonus
NO - Ploppers and QC’s for this weeks challenge
Journaling or themed title would be nice but you don’t have to or make something up if it’s not your photo
Your LO can do double/triple duty as long as you put a link in this forum, especially if you intend to do all four challenges. (How will I know to include you in the draw otherwise)
Exception to the above, if you do the Bonus Challenge by using the nominated kit/s the LO HAS to go into Erica’s Lucky Dips Gallery
Please comment generously on other member’s layouts in this challenge. I know I don’t really need to ask you that because you’re all so good at it anyway.

Have fun with this challenge...

LOL! What are you going to do if no color wins!

Carla

I voted!

Erica
01-05-2009, 07:56 PM
Well I shall just have to play Simon and vote for the colour I want:) What do you think of PURPLE :yikes:

Leslie
01-05-2009, 08:06 PM
Um - purple is my favorite color actually. :)

Erica
01-05-2009, 08:16 PM
Oooops :o

Leslie
01-05-2009, 08:23 PM
What oops. lol Pretty colored thongs you got there in your avatar! :)

If I had a punnet of mulberries, I would bamix them and put them in ice cream! pale purple ice cream. *sigh* - Haven't had it since I was a little girl.

Erica
01-05-2009, 08:43 PM
Shhh! I really like purple  That IC sound delightful, still haven't used my IC maker yet

I'm confused about the color thing vs the two nominated kits. Could you explain to me?

Erica
01-05-2009, 09:40 PM
OK - we are voting on a colour to use on the vintage photo, after the vote is tallied (midnight 11 Jan) we will know what colour to use for the photo re-colour.

There are two kits to choose from to use with the vintage photo you are going to recolour, use either of one of the kits but NOT both.

Hope that helps but sing out if it doesn't.

Erica
01-05-2009, 09:45 PM
So no one like yellow then? ;)

01-05-2009, 11:15 PM
I think I get it :)

Carla
01-05-2009, 11:52 PM
Well....I voted for green because i have "Sweet as Apple Pie" But I think all of them would most likely look good recolored on a photo with that kit.

I LOVE purple and ...um...no, yellow is my least favorite...but that's just MY opinion! ;)

idtwinmom
01-06-2009, 12:34 AM
Hmmm.....if you vote for purple, those kits may not work without a little recolor!

idtwinmom
01-06-2009, 12:36 AM
I see someone voted yellow, but to tell the truth, it will be the least visible on a B&W or Sepia print! You would have to go really yellow, which might not look so good! Don't know, might be worth playing, but....... and yes I'm rambling!

Erica this confusing me or is this a left over from last month

In your instructions
Note: I will accept a small amount of other DSP product with either of the nominated kit but the LO has to be predominantly the Windermere kit :-)

Erica

Erica

Sure can use the AOP

Sounds like FUN Erica! :)
I'm marking my space here, saving a note on my desktop and writing this in my diary. Now all I need is the magic time fairy to give me some extra hours in the day to actually scrap! :)

Erica

OK - It looks like it's a draw between Blue and Green so you can choose to use either of those tones for you overall or spot colour on your photo. :)

JenniferG
01-12-2009, 12:30 AM
Oh thank goodness! I'm not a huge fan of green, but I LOVE blue and voted for that one...Glad we get to choose!

Here is my LO. This probably isn't really a vintage photo but it is one of my favorite photos of my mom. I also don't know the first thing about vintage LOs so just did something that I liked. I used a sepia tone for the photo and recolored the dress.

Here are my two Bluebells and Buttercups pages. I used them for the EEE challenge, and decided to do the BLUE recoloring on a picture of my grandmother--a vintage woman picture! I know I didn't use the right kit, but thought I'd throw these in here anyways!
