Please ask if you need help with rooms. Many of you were willing to share, so you might cut some costs. We do have plenty of rooms held though as well.
Let me know if you have any trouble with reservations. And ask for Erin if you need better help when you call!

Thanks Margie!
Booked my room! This looks like a really nice hotel!! and a great price too!
I tried to reserve online but it wouldn't take the code. When I called, the agent first quoted me $124 per night, so be sure to ask what the rate is if they don't tell you. He called someone else to get the rate and had to do it twice to get it right.

If anyone is interested we could go to see the Morman Tabernacle Choir perform at
9:30 am on Temple Square before we go on the photo shoot. It would last for a half hour. We would need to be in our seats by about 9:10 am. It wouldn't be nessecary to a wear a dress but most would be in Sunday attire.

I know I said I was willing to share a room but 2 days of no one forgetting their keys, no one eating others food or putting turkey legs down the toilet was just too tempting....

It is really close. About 5 blocks away, right across from Temple Square. UTA has a "free fare zone" in Downtown SLC. Here's a link to the map:

:yahoo: My reservations are made!! I would love to meet ya'll for dinner on Friday, but my flight doesn't get in until 6:45pm. And I'm guessing the shuttle to the hotel will take some time to get me there. But if you let me know where you are going, I'll try to stop by!
And Brenda, are you thinking of bringing some Ghiradelli's chocolate?? 'Cuz if you don't, I'll grab some to bring - it's my FAV!! Or I can bring some homemade fudge! But only if people like chocolate!!

I think I am in for Friday dinner. Probably couldn't get there til 6 or so though. I have not finished my ATC yet, but I actually made one for DD. She is not going, but when I showed her the ATC's Grandma brought back from Vegas, she had to have one herself. I wasn't sure on the size, but I just did wallet size prints in my windows printing wizard, and I think they turned out the same as the others I have. One more question: should you laminate them, or is better not to in case people want to stick them in binders? Or card sleeves? Seems like they were half and half last time

i'll be in at 7:30. the hotel said the shuttle takes about 15 minutes to get there to pick you up. i might stop by dinner too if it's close. with the timezone, i can do dinner twice right?? :)

Okay, I happen to be flying out of SLC on the 17th and I'd love to make it to the crop....but I don't know if I'll be allowed because:
1. I won't be able to stay for the whole time, I'll only be able to be there a little bit before I have to head to the airport.
2. It will be my last day with my mom for who knows how long so I'll want her to come too- she's very crafty, but she's not converted to digital yet.
3. I don't have a laptop....well I do, but it's broken. Are you allowed to go to a laptop crop without a laptop?
I've never been to a DSP crop so I don't know how it works, will it be worth it for me to stop in for just a little bit? Or should I just plan on planning to come to another one some time in the future?

you don't have to have a laptop, no worries. i'd recommend stopping in, since you'll be there. any time there's a gathering of scrappers, it's always fun. and great to put faces to usernames!

My real name is Laura Lou...(lauraloub). I was SO creative with my user name!
I just had a couple dozen Honeybell oranges shipped to Gundi. There will be OJ pieces all ready cut into 8ths so no one will have to peal them or have juice running down their chins (or dripping on their keyboards). That's the way WE eat them in Florida.

i'll be in at 7:30. the hotel said the shuttle takes about 15 minutes to get there to pick you up. i might stop by dinner too if it's close. with the timezone, i can do dinner twice right?? :)
My flight gets in at 4:45 on Friday so I SHOULD be able to do dinner. JaeDee was going to pick me up, but I see that the hotel has a shuttle so that can save her the trip.
I will be leaving SLC at 11:20 AM on Tuesday.
Are we having a Pool Lounge Party at the hotel one day? Like Sunday Afternoon? I'll pack a suit anyway, just in case.

I'm in NC and the only thing we are known for is Tobacco...I don't think any of you would appreciate that! The other thing is Pork BBQ, I don't think the airline will let me bring a pig! I'm still trying to think of something!
Peanuts? My cousin (from NC) made a bet with me over a basketball game once and I lost so I sent him Saunder's Hot Fudge (from Michigan) and he was to send me boiled peanuts if he lost. I have NO idea what boiled peanuts are but REGULAR peanuts are good uness someone has an allergy.

I know I saw a flair for meeting DSPers. I have been trying to count up but I figured at like *5* it wasn't worth it for me to advertise that.

I am making a decision about the photowalk!! I think we should meet at Temple Square (for Chris, Crys and Sands) at 1 pm (that should give them time for lunch after Chris' church). We should meet at the reflection pond, just east of the Temple! For those at the hotel let's meet in the lobby at 12:30 and we will ride TRAX (free mass transit) over. Or maybe we will meet earlier and plan lunch before then, of course it depends on how late we have eaten breakfast!! That we can decided Saturday night! I will probably drive my car over and drive home after that!:cry::cry: Anyway, that is the plan that I think will work best.

More of the peanut farms are in Virginia....I think...(I'm still new to this state) I do worry about the allergies too...Even the scent of a peanut can trigger an allergy in some people. Still looking and thinking.....Anything related to pigs is a big deal here! There is always chitlins and turnip greens tho...YUCK!!!

ATTENTION!!!!
For anybody that will have already arrived by Friday am. The LDS Draper Temple is having an Open House during the time you are all here. The LDS temples are only open to the public prior to their dedication and then after that you have to have a recommend to get in. Would anyone like to go to it?
I looked at the available reservations, there are various times between 9 and 1. No cost. I am not sure if there is a dress requirement. JD, do you know? I always wear Sunday Church dress, but not sure if that is required or not. Let me know, we need to get the reservations ASAP, to make sure we can get in. We can take my car over if only other 4 people want to go about 9 am and do the photo walk then. Or if more people want to go we can ride TRAX over. The TRAX line is only 1200 Feet away from the hotel according to the UTA web site!
I can also go later!!
I mentioned this before. But if anyone wants we could go earlier and listen to the broadcast of the Morman Tabernacle Choir which only last a half hour. You have to be in your seat by 9:15.

It's looking like we won't get in until VERY late Friday night. I have to drive to BZ to get DD and bring her and possibly BF back to babysit our dogs. She doesn't get out of class until 3 PM at this point. Then it takes 1.5 hours in good weather to get back here, then take off for SLC, a six hour drive approx. We're looking at 11 pm arrival. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d142/hoozieg/Smilies/Bored-sleep-Goodnite/msn_sleepy.gif Too late for dinner I'm afraid. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d142/hoozieg/Smilies/Bored-sleep-Goodnite/msn_sleepy.gif
But I do plan on hitting the breakfast in the morning! I'll bet we'll see each other there!
I went to get DD on Friday (3 hours of driving) because she wanted to discuss her plans for the rest of her life and spend the weekend with us. We had a nice time! In my planning process, I realized I don't have enough room on my HD to get many kits or photos on it. My EHD is a WD that I've heard is flaky and unreliable. I have no reliable back up of either kits or photos. If I brought it with me, it would probably crash and lose all my stuff since it was not intended to travel. So, it occurred to me that I could get a case that would turn DD's old hard drive (from a burnt up laptop that was replaced) into a EHD. So I bought one there and brought it back here with the intention of loading my scrapping stuff on it to bring to SLC. That way I'd have a backup AND a way to travel with those files.
I bought a case before heading back here. We plugged it in and everything worked fine, but when DD found out about it, she wanted it for herself. It came from HER computer after all! We told her what we had planned for it and said MAYBE she could have it after we were done with it. She plugged it into her computer to see if there were any files that she needed, then proceeded to put it into HER computer bag! The little snot CLAIMS she "forgot" it was in there...she was probably hoping we would forget about it. We took her back to school today and there is MY HD in HER computer case - only discovered AFTER we got back! Nothing to do but go buy a portable HD in addition to the case I just bought in order to have time to load my stuff onto it! Dang kids!!!
Are there any plans for lunch and dinner on Saturday or are we on our own?
As far as Sunday plans go....DH wants to head back on Sun, so a morning photo walk would be best for me (I'm NOT an early riser, but I can force myself up if needed), 9-10 am is good.
I'm not really into choir music, I'm sorry to say JaeDee, even if it is the Mormon Tabernacle. I also don't own a dress and hate dressing up anyway, so I would pass on that activity. Those of us not going to that could find a coffee shop and wait for those who are - just a suggestion.
I like the badge holder idea...then we could carry the ATC's in them for passing out. They'll probably hold more than one or two, won't they?

Is there some sort of schedule, or do we just go in and set up and then scrap and/or walk about and visit/meet each other?
I've heard prizes mentioned....are there challenges throughout the day?

How close are the restrooms? (Prob nobody knows--or has someone been there already to check it out?)

My experience in Las Vegas was this:
No schedule...show up at 10 am and get set up, meet people and scrap; get coffee, walk around, chat, laugh and scrap; go eat, walk around, chat, take photos and scrap.......
There were drawings for various prizes/souvenirs brought by Kim, Lauren, Rene and Margie from their homes...including a copy of PS and PSE from Adobe. There were prizes for the person who came the farthest, who did the most layouts during the day and some others I can't remember. From watching the happenings at Adobe last summer, I think they may have given out some CD's or something.
Someone was in the room all the time so the 'puters were not in danger.
Usually hotels have a restroom in the lobby, but if you're staying there, you can always pop up to your room. From the pictures, the hotel doesn't look that big (certainly not like the Venetian!!). Don't worry!! I'm sure there's one close by.

Jenn...I put very minimal on mine and only on front because I had no idea what in the world I was doing. They are all printed out now, so I am not changing them!
I printed mine out on regular scrapbook printing paper which is somewhat like card stock. I do have a printer that prints 12 X 12 so I was able to get 12 cards to a page printed.

We could do the photo walk from 8 to 9 for those early birds or earlier. TRAX doesnt start until later on Sunday but I do have the car. I think the broadcast would really be awesome to watch. (I've never seen one live). We could plan to meet everyone else at 10:15 am who didnt want to go that early by the reflecting pond.
This sounds like a perfect idea!! I'm not sure how early I'll be getting up, since I will still be on Pacific time, one hour later! And being able to sleep in without worrying about the kids sounds like a treat! So I'm leaning more towards the 10:15 time frame.

Hmmm, DH has church meetings starting at 10 am Sunday, but I am thinking I would love to stay Sat night and do the early photo walk. I could prob get home in time if I skip the choir. Of course, I have to teach Sunday school too, and Heaven knows I will not be preparing my lesson on Saturday. Guess I could be really good and prepare it earlier in the week--
YAH RIGHT!!! Oh well, guess we need to have lots of fun on Friday night since I won't get to stay longer.

I was wondering about ATCs too. Right now mine is just one-sided and it doesn't have any info except my screen name and my first name. I am going to make one into a nametag too so everyone can remember who I am. It's so tricky when you are used to screen names. I am thinking of adding info to the back, but I think I will leave it blank.

This will be memorable! When we want to read your badge (ATC) we will have to crook our neck to the side. I think you just might be remembered especially when everyone heads out looking for a massage for relief of neck pain!

Ok...maybe it is because retirees don't "do" time, but I plan on just getting to the hotel and winging it from then on. So make sure everyone lets me know what and when and I will probably be there. If we don't go to church I will have a wee bit more room in my suitcase. I really don't want to wander through Orlando Airport in a hoodie and winter storm coat but they won't fit in my bag with skirt, sweater, slip, hose, and good shoes.
My next task is packing my DSP Kiwi Green laptop bag. Chargers and computer cords for phone, I-Pod, camera batteries aong with all the computer crap. BUT...I got all of the kits and stuff I got from DSP since September on my HD and 2008 and 2009 photos. Now I won't have room for more than a couple of layouts but if I get ANY done it will be a miracle.

Do I detect a little excitement, there, JaeDee?
All this talk of fudge is making my weight-loss slow down to a near crawl. I am still trying to loose that last lb or so of Holiday Gain. I will drag along one of my booklets so I can TRY to stay on track at Denny's or McDonalds or Friday night dinner. I can already see that this isn't going to be an easy 3-4 days. If there is someone else there dieting, PLEASE buddy up with me for support.
Obviously, I can't bring my plan food with me. NutriSystem looks SO much like terrorist explosives, don't you know. I am not even sure about toothpaste and deodorant. I certainly hope there are those little shampoos at the hotel. If I have to leave too much behind I may consider a check-through bag after all.
Today's task? Organizing my Kiwi-DSP laptop bag. It will have to double as my purse so organization is key.

Women can carry on their purse and one other carry on right? At least that's what I've always done. You all recommend carrying on our laptops and cameras, right? (that might make my suitcase larger - I usually try not to check luggage at all).
Laura - you are WAY ahead of me in the packing. I'll probably finish packing Thursday night around midnight or so!
Brenda - I can't eat nuts so I request LOTS of fudge without :D

My DD has become frankly depressed, more so in the last few days. She's crying a lot, can't make decisions, feeling hopeless/helpless, nausea and having sleep disturbances. I need to go over there and take her to the doctor and a therapist...possibly pulling her out of school.....sound familiar?
Which means....I probably won't be driving to SLC on Friday!!:cry::cry:
As much as I want to come, my daughter is my top priority. She really can't function in this state of mind and she's suffering tremendously. I need to see for myself that she's getting the help she needs. I'm so sorry!! I was so excited to be there!!!:cry::cry:

For some reason, I guess I got it from this post. I guess I am the crazy one
I totally forgot the one quart bag requirement. In case anyone else forgot, I'm posting the security regulations here:
PACK SMART
- Effective September 26, 2006, by order of the Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration, passengers may carry ONE resealable 1 quart size clear plastic bag which can contain liquids, gels and/or aerosols in containers of 3 ounces of less. The contents in the plastic bag must fit comfortably and be completely closed/sealed and subjected to x-ray inspection separate from the passenger's carry-on bag. For more detailed information, visit the TSA website.
- Tag checked and carry-on luggage inside and out with your name, address, and phone number.
- Certain items are prohibited in your luggage. For a complete list, please visit the TSA website
- Pack your medication, passport, jewelry, important documents, and other valuables in your carry-on luggage.
- Do not place wrapped gifts in either checked or carry-on luggage.
- Remember that all checked and carry-on luggage may be subject to search.
CALL AHEAD – Contact your airline to verify flight information and check the status of your flight before coming to the airport.
DON’T FORGET YOUR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS – Before leaving for the airport, make sure you have your ticket. If you checked in with your airline online, make sure you also have your boarding pass. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations require that all passengers have a boarding pass and valid photo I.D. to enter the security checkpoint.
BRING VALID IDENTIFICATION – Adults need an official photo I.D. issued by a government authority OR two other forms of valid I.D., one of which must be issued by a government authority. Minors are not required to have I.D.
ARRIVE EARLY – Arrive approximately two hours prior to your scheduled departure to allow plenty of time for security procedures. Contact your airline for specific flight information and suggested arrival times.

I insist on roll bag through Orlando Airport. The distance is brutal once you clear security...even with the mono-rail. So...my purse, books, and camera will be inside my roll-about suitcase and my laptop bag hooked over the handle. Oh...and my coat on my back with stuff in the pockets. I decided to go ahead and check one bag...a duffel with most of my clothes. Meds in a zip-lock baggie in my hands through security as suggested. I am mainly afraid of forgetting my charging cords. Why am I so paranoid about all of this????:no:

Hi, Gram! In previous crops, we did exactly what you are doing--posted in the thread, then pm'd room numbers! Is the wifi free at the hotel? Sometimes folks weren't wanting to pay the $10 or so that was charged, but most hotels have a business center with a computer where you can get online.
An update from Karen and me--our train is running late. Really late! We won't be getting the wonderful sightseeing trip we had planned. Instead of the 8am departure scheduled, we should be leaving this evening around 6:30. :( We're looking on the bright side--we should see lots of stars and hopefully the moon will be bright enough that it will reflect off the snow! We cancelled our room in SLC for tonight--we should be arriving bright and early tomorrow morning!

OK, I'm making an executive decision! How about dinner at 8:30, since Margie will be here around 8. There's an Olive Garden at .8 mi. from the hotel; how does that sound? JaeDee should be arriving soon; maybe you can confab and let us know!
Oh, and if anyone has a better idea...:D

good question!! let me count... (goes off to find sign in sheet)... 119 total layouts!!!
it was a desperate race at the end between vicki (cupcake) and suzanne (dathamary) and suzanne won by 1 with TWENTY ONE pages!!! vicki did TWENTY! :yahoo:
i did 12 (not that i was counting or anything) and only 1 wasn't a plopper! and yeah, so it was a groupie that i just plopped in a background, but still! i worked very hard. :D
i think there's a party still going on in jaedee's room now! and then one crew's starting a photo walk at 7:30am!

I had such fun talking and chatting with you yesterday but must confess I only managed to do one page at about 8pm last night :)... the rest of the time I tried to catch up with my DET uploads
So excited to be spending some more time with you this am on the photo walk.... see you in a bit!

Hi ladies!! I wanted to let you know that I have made it home in one piece! Margie and I were on the hotel shuttle together out to the airport, and I talked her ear off!! Boy, the hike thru SLC airport is awful though! I think it was about 1/3 mile from the security checkpoint (which went into lock-down for a few minutes while I was there) out to the boarding gates! Be prepared!!
I had a wonderful time with ya'll!! I miss you already! But I definitely will attend other crops and hopefully see you there! I will upload my photos to flickr tomorrow, so you can see the neat buildings Brenda and I found on our way back to the hotel this morning.
BTW, I was looking thru my ATC cards, and don't have one from Scamp! Did I miss it, or did you not make one?? I should have noticed yesterday, but apparently was very easily distracted by all the chocolate and fun we were having!

It seems like everyone has posted here except me. I was just SO busy having fun. I have to echo someone else who mentioned what a wonderful tour guide JaeDee was. Bless her heart for giving up a whole day to tour us around.
After another fine breakfast at the hotel JaeDee, Scamp, FullTimeRVer, and I took a photo tour of The Square. Oh My, what photo-ops everywhere! It was really cold, and I forgot my gloves back at the hotel, but that soon passed. For me, the highlight of the whole trip was attending the broadcast of the Tabernacle Choir. We were allowed to take photos during the rehearsal and I got a little video. When we walked in and I realized we were actually going to be there in person I was quite overwhelmed. It was AWESOME! I will never forget that half hour. JaeDee made sure we saw the highlights of the rest of the complex, too, and I have a ton of photos to prove it.
Then do you know what she did? She spent the whole rest of the day driving us up into the mountains and Park City! I was so happy that the pictures I kept snapping through the window came out. You don't even want to know how many photos I took...you DON'T! Someone already said it, though...apparently, no one over the age of 35 attends the Film Festival or goes skiing or snowboarding. Must be some kind of law or rule.
Yesterday I did complete 11 or 12 layouts, ready to post here but not yet. Maybe I will get a few minutes tomorrow. Margie convinced me to try a plopper or two and I just kept going. What fun! Now to go home and sort out my ploppers where I can find them and USE them.
It wasn't enough to have won that raffle that let me stay here a little longer, I made the calculated guess as to how many ploppers were in Margie's album and won a DSP CD yesterday. I am buying lottery tickets, now. Who knows?
I can't wait for tomorrow at the Genealogy Library. My Lappie is all ready to go. Then Tuesday hiking SLC airport and sitting for 6 hours in an airplane seat. At least I should finish "Son of a Witch" the sequel to "Wicked".
I really DO want to get my tons of photos sorted out and some posted on Flickr. I hope I can post the Tabernacle Choir video.

Oh My Heck.....Salt Lake City was awesome!!!!
Got to the airport around 6pm and there were LOTS os people checking in at Southwest.
And there's a new twist to the checked bags, once the agent gives you your boarding pass you have to take your checked luggage the counter and around to baggage x-ray!!
Oh, if you're flying Delta and especially Southwest be prepared to hike...it's just the same as when you arrive only reverse!! Anyhoo, plane left at 7;45 and got to Oakland at 8;30 (temperature was 57 degrees)...took the shuttle to the car rental and of course the only line was at budget and no the brightest person at the counter. Hmm, wonder whose socks he was smoking...heehee!! Anyway was home a bit after 10...

What a beautiful ride we had up into the mountains! Thank you Jaedee for hauling us all up there! Otherwise we would never have been able to experience the beauty. It's especially sweet since on the East Coast we don't have too many mountains or what they "think" are mountains! Not to mention the snow! At least where I live, we don't get to experience snow too often. (other than they are in for a winter storm tomorrow. Maybe it's a good thing I am flying into Chicago instead. Yes...I have it right now...PARK City. LOL. The van driver was quizing me on who we had seen and rattled off quite a list of "stars" who are supposed to be there. I kept telling him I only saw one young couple at the airport who had a video photographer with them recording their every move and a few paparazzi following them. I sure didn't know who it was but the only "star" he mentioned I wouldn't have recognized was a Mandy something. I will have to look her up on the internet and see if that is who it was.

Too true! Maybe we're *soul sisters* or *soul mother/daughter* and were destined to meet! Everyone should have someone as nice as you in their boat. We may not be able to fix things, but at least we can commiserate! lol

Oh yay, I get to update my *DSP'ers I have met IRL* Flair!!
I certainly found the SLC trip to be one of my life's highlights. Meeting people IRL you feel you already know is such a rush! I'm so glad Chris, Sands and Frannie pushed, shoved and cajoled me into going! Wouldn't have missed it for the world!
The meeting, the chatting, the sights and activities were all beyond fantastic.
And...one of my best things was that I found 6 more children who could so easily be my grands!!! Chris's 4 and Sands' 2 are all delightful in their own ways.

Hi ladies,
I just found this thread and I'm soooo disappointed. I live in Tooele (30 miles from SLC), I would have loved to join you! I guess I'm a few days too late... glad you all had fun. Maybe next time.

One week later...Has it only been a week??
It was wonderful. I loved meeting everyone--only wish we'd had more time! By the time the end of Saturday happened, my brain was fried, and then Sunday morning just flew before Karen and I had to head back to Denver.
Real life and work has been hitting me this week, but I am surfing on the wonderful memories of good times with good friends!

BTW, I was looking thru my ATC cards, and don't have one from Scamp! Did I miss it, or did you not make one?? I should have noticed yesterday, but apparently was very easily distracted by all the chocolate and fun we were having!
Scamp was very bad--she's been negligent about doing ATC's and had a few leftovers from one of the LV crops. PM her with your snail mail and she'll try to make it up to you...:D

Scamp, My Dear, you have been living under a mistaken delusion! Anyone who writes the sentence "...but I am surfing on the wonderful memories of good times with good friends!" certainly DOES have a way with words!!! ;) :D :D

Thanks Scamp!! Look for my PM, and sorry I was so clueless and didn't notice earlier! I'm glad you made it back home safely, sounds like you and Karen had a lot of fun in Colorado Springs. I lived there when my DH taught at the USAF Academy, our kitchen window looked out at Pikes Peak. We never did get up that mountain though!
