I am doing a book of my Dad's life for his 80th birthday in March. My question is how do I label photos of him and other people? It's his book so he knows who is in the photos but I also want this book to preserve his life when he's gone so others will know who the people are in the photos. So, for example, would I label photos of his mother and him as Mom and me or Lillian and Mylo or Mylo and Mom or Mylo and Lillian Lemke?

Kristi just recently did an album for her grandmothers 90th birthday-
the shutterfly link is here: http://community.shutterfly.com/gallery/post/start.sfly?postId=/gallery/1/post/GMGDJgwZtmTRw2YAu545h0

there were alot of dsp'ers working on the book- and the general consensus was that labeling was done by their proper name- so that others wouldn't be confused by the "family tree" cousins, 2nd cousins, etc. as someones cousin is someone elses Aunt. Her Grandmother really loved the book- I wouldn't get too hung up on the dynamics- once it's done it is all about the pictures and the memories they drag up... and when everyone is sitting around looking through it, you will get enough stories to fill a second book.

The journaling was done more personally with stories about Grandma, Aunt Grace etc- so perhaps proper names on the photos, and more creative license with the journaling?

Just my two cents. A book like this is quite an undertaking, but EVERYONE will love it when it is done, and want a copy for themselves. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice Sherry! I looked at Kristi's album and it's just fabulous. Great for inspiration!

I am working on some heritage albums of my family and I label the pages with their proper names, but sometimes in the journaling I will refer to them as Mother & Daddy. Does that make sense? Here's an example:
