View Full Version : Be-Muse-Me Once!

Welcome to the very first Be-Muse Me! I was going to start this yesterday but my computer decided to crash on me and I had to reformat my c drive and re-install everything... still going with that, but photoshop is on there at least! Bare with me however if I am not super quick because I intend to install as I need it...

Just as a recap on how this works....

On occasion, my muse does momentarily leave me and I then become in need of inspiration to get those creative juices flowing. On just such occasions I have decided to hold a Be-Muse-Me challenge where you can WIN a free kit!

The idea is similar to Lauren's Gimme A Clue (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=713), and Tina's Designakit Winakit (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=592).

On the occasion my muse decides to leave me, I will call on you lovely ladies (and spunky gents!) to inspire me and get those creative juices flowing. I find my best kits are made when given an 'assignment' so to speak to challenge me and spark those creative juices, so Be-Museing-Me, shall be a win win situation for all of us!

This is how it will work...

I will ask for colour palette suggestions and/or inspiration photo (if you wish) to create the kit from.
I will ask for paper suggestions & then element suggestions to begin building the kit.
Next will be finding a name for the kit, from your suggestions, I will choose a name for the kit.
Prize: 3 people will win the finished kit.

1. Winner of colour palette choice
2. Random Winner
3. Winner of Kit Name Choice

THEN - you have another chance to win!

Once the kit is available in store, create a layout with that kit post it in the Be-Muse-Me gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=6745) and you will get a posting bonus.

Be sure to link to your layout in the challenge thread so we all know to check the gallery. To be eligible for the posting bonus you must post a link to your layout in this challenge thread.

Ok ladies and gents, ready for the first challenge??

Lets see your palette suggestions!!! :-)

I totally LOVE these games! It's a good thing all the designers don't do them, or I'd never get off the computer!

Be back in a bit with swatches!

I don't have a swatch, but I'm thinking a neutral palette- black, tan and white. I am remodeling a bathroom in those colors so that's what's on my brain :)

This is a favorite photo of my daughter when she was 3 weeks old. I've not been inspired to scrap it, I think because the colors are an odd combination. Maybe it will inspire you, Robyn, so I can be inspired!!

The cushion she is on is actually red and yellow, but color picker gives it too much green :-(

Can someone give me a quick "how-to" on swatches?

Everyone does it differently but here's how I do it in PSE6.

Start with a new blank file, I size it to 300x300 pixels & 200ppi to start with, it will eventually end up being a different shape depending on the picture you use.

Scan the picture (from magazines whatever) and drag it into the blank file, you will probably need to resize it to fit, leave a space down the side or along the bottom for the colours, crop (don't crop out the space).

Now using the 'rectangular marquee tool' divide the space into five boxes (I do only 5 colours because that's what Lauren originally wanted, you can do whatever you like). You can only do one box at a time, so after drawing the first one click on 'set foreground colour' and using the eyedropper click on one of the colours in your picture, you might have to do it a few times to get the colour you want. Once you have it click OK then click on the 'paint bucket tool' and then click on the first box inside the marching ants, it will fill with colour.

Continue along this line for the other four boxes then click on 'save for web', resize to either 300 wide or in length (constraining proportions so it doesn't pull out of shape), save and post.

There's probably a much easier way but this works for me.

I will try and choose today if I can....so you have a little while more to post your colours!

Aww, and some more great palettes! Make sure you submit next time. You know, green is my least liked colour, but I WANT to make a green kit to challenge myself a bit. So definately make sure you submit some green palettes next time! ;-) Just make sure there are one or two other colours in it so the green doesn't scream at me too much.

Still locked in winter here- and not quite ready for spring, (well, ready for spring, but just took a whole bunch of winter pics) I'd like to see you go with the penquin theme, maybe snowballs, and snowflakes, a cute little penguin with a scarf and earmuffs, stuff like that. A thought, anyway.

Siriusone

The color pallet makes me think of both earth and sky...Id like papers that would go both masculine and feminine. Maybe a rough textured brown paper or for the blues I think maybe wispy soft brush strokes blending the soft yellow in.

MurlieMac
01-17-2009, 07:59 PM
I'm with Renee s I'm not quite to spring yet. But yet I don't' know if I want another winter theme either. And I like the idea of blue and yellow blended splotches with brown grungy scratches.

I have an idea... how about a blue background with a nice big swirl that looks like a good gust of wind just hit it...

I also like the ideas that are being bounced around about the heavily textured brown. hum... I wonder which way this kit will go..

Or another blue or brown paper with stamped snowflakes on the corner (not too noticeable) and alot of wear on the edges (white) so that it looks like snow covered it.

If you do go a boy kit... How about one with trucks, cars and planes type of thing... Like squares of each, or a simple pattern of them on a white background. You know those that are popular in boy bedding right now that are just the plain outline of the trucks, cars, etc.

enough ideas for now... got to go.

The dark color (dark brown, I'm hoping) grungy to match the other two so far, with some swooshes and scrolls in the lighter brown color, maybe specs of yellow. Looking at the necks of the Mom and Dad penguin, that is curved as they are looking down, that made me think of this.

Hi Robyn,
I would like to be a part of this to support you...being fellow Aussie and all.
So, my thoughts are also to do flourishes....maybe in light colours...make it a bit different than the typical dark flourishes. I think it would look good on the brown and blue.
Seeing as it is a penguin, you could also go with a "sea theme" and do sea elements.

Looking forward to seeing how this evolves.

Good luck

I love those papers! For elements how about some broken up stitching to frame a page or a multi picture frame that is linked or looped together sort of unevenly. Or is is possible to do the deeper colours maybe a mix up of the colours like a paint splat or splatter, possibly even slightly shiny or glittery would be an interesting offset to the pretty but slightly grungy look.

How about a few painted-on journaling strips?

I like the idea of journaling strips. I would also like to see another single frame added to the kit, possibly made of cardboard. And something circular- maybe a circle WA or circle of small flowers.

if you do sparkly.. how about a sparkly flower that we could place over the flower for added dimension... Or use it on its own if we wanted to. Different size gems would be great... and if not a flower than a swirl.

Ok, some Raffia Ribbon Wrap with a flower accent...

Robyn, love what you have done so far. Perhaps, I would like to see a few more leaves or a small vine!

renee s
01-22-2009, 10:31 AM
Love the raffia! It really adds to the kit. Is the flower attached? That would leave three more items needed, correct? I would still like to see another single frame. Frames for multiple photos are sometimes hard to work with alone, but work great as an addition to scrapping along side a larger main frame. Perhaps made out of glitter or metal as someone else mentioned. Or possibly falling apart cardboard peices stapled together. The vines suggested by romey would look good in the shape of a circle. Maybe with some jeweled flowers mixed in.

I have been spending too much time at the paper scrapbook store but today I saw the cutest and I mean cutest clip for your page. It looked like a barret and one of them said family and the other had a bird, etc... anyway something of that sort would be so cute...

I also think some brads would be cool...

Ooops, forgot to mention that yes, the flower is attached to the raffia, so yes, 3 more items to go. There are some fabulous idea's here, can't wait to do some more. I will try and finish tonight and over the weekend but we have visitors because it is my daughters 7th birthday and we have parties and dinners etc, but I think I can still squeeze it in! ;-)

As a side note I am very excited because my brand new 23" widescreen monitor arrived today so I can't wait to play tonight! He he :yippee:
