Am I alone in this...I bought a new piece of computer hardware and I'm in love.
Today I purchased a Western Digital Passport 400 gb EHD...it's adorable, and it affords me a new FREEDOM!!! Whoo Hooo!!
I have a 500 gb EHD, but it requires a power outlet - now what is the point of working on a laptop if you still have to be tethered to the wall??? I can finally be wireless!!!
Most importantly, I can backup my digi-scrapping supplies on both hard drives now...(deep sigh of relief here)...I had done a backup on a DVD and my daughter stepped on it and it died....pointless.
So I have backup and freedom...what a wonderful world. :):):):)
(and I still plan on working with 200 dpi)

Well I'm excited for you! I had one that got plugged into the wall and I was so pleased when it got broken! I replaced it with a 250GB one - I also have an 80 and a 160.
Ooh wah - heck - you just reminded me. I have scrapped about 10 things recently, taken new photos and downloaded 3 DSP products all without backing up!
Off I go to start the process. On all 3.
And yes, I love 200!! And I have 11 books with it.

Congrats of the HD- backing up in 2 places is always better than one- and you will rest easier. I just got a portable maxtor for my laptop this week to use when I travel- I had never owned one that I didn't plug into the wall so I share your enthusiasm as I like to scrap outside on the deck and now I can. I use the 200 dpi also. Takes up less room, and prints beautifully at shutterfly.

Congrat. Externals are a must!
The 1 TB's have been going on sale for $129.00 at Office Depot and Best Buy, so the price has really come down. I have a 1 TB WD and a 250. I should probably pick up another 1 TB, but I think I'm going to hold off. When Windows 7 comes out, I plan on getting a new computer and I hear the USB's are going to be USB 3's so they will be faster.... so I might wait until then.
I love my portable EHD and I keep it off-site.
I planned on keeping it in my car, but I don't think the heat would be good for it... so I'll probably keep it at my parents' home or my classroom.
This way, God forbid something happens to my house, I have a backup!

Yipppeeee, at least one thing you don't have to worry about!
Here's a tip (I think I saw someone at Adobe crop that did this) ... put a couple pieces of velcro on the drive, and on the top of your laptop. It becomes much easier to move things around. A couple times with my laptop, I have gone to move from one place to the other, and forgot I had a tethered drive and almost dropped everything!
