I was wondering if anyone using ACDSee with Vista is having any problems with their scrapbook kits. Just checking because I was looking into a new computer and it will have Vista I'm sure. I don't use the program for my photos (use Bridge in CS3) but I would be lost w/o my scrapbook organizing.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Norma - I can't help you with Vista & ACDSee but you can use Bridge to do everything, pictures and digiscrapping supplies if that helps. I downloaded the CS3 trial version a while back & worked pretty slick. :-) -c-

Thanks for the reply. I use bridge now for my photos but would it really help with my kits...I mean the organizing part. I can kind anything at the drop of a hat now with ACDSee. Just looking thru kits to find something again would be a bust for me. I can't think how Bridge would be able to organize each piece of a kit.

Neither can I help with Vista, but I honestly don't think you will have any problems at all - I know just how you feel about organizing your kits etc in ACDSee!

Hi, Norma. My primary computer is a desktop with XP, but I have a Vista laptop that I also run ACDSee on. It doesn't get as much use as the destop, but I haven't had any problems.

However, I have had a really hard time get my database correctly onto the laptop. I have tried restoring a back-up as well as an export/import from the desktop to laptop. The hang-up seems to be with ACDSee and mapping the drive location so that the files are where they expect them to be. I think I need to spend a little more time working on it - more than the 20 minutes before I want to leave to go somewhere - and I'll get it figured out. But I don't think any of this is a specifically Vista problem.

Kathleen, have you see this tutorial at digiscrapinfo? (http://www.digiscrapinfo.com/joomla/acdsee-resources/acdsee-photo-manager/common-questions/52-updating-or-transferring/191-2-computer-how-do-i-use-acdsee-photo-manager-on-2-computers-with-the-same-digital-kits-on-a-ehd) maybe you may get some hints from it?

Hi, we also have this tutorial (http://www.digiscrapinfo.com/joomla/component/content/article/190-i-bought-a-new-computer-how-do-i-transfer-acdsee-photo-manager-info-and-files-from-my-old-computer). At the top it links to a specific tutorial for going from an XP to a Vista computer...for some reason the back-up/restore wizards don't like to do that transition. Follow the tutorial and use the import function instead. Works like a charm.

In fact, when I back up my database I also periodically run the export database wizard as a form of backup for my backup. Just in case the restore wizard has a hiccup. HTH!

Hi Norma
I use Acdsee with vista on both my hp desktop and a dell inspirion laptop without any problems. I have been using them both for about a year. I didn't notice any changes to Acdsee when I went from xp to vista.

Also- a little know fact- on most new computers you can "downgrade" to an xp operating system for an additional fee... I did it on my daughters dell laptop.

Kristi and Meryl, thanks for the tutorial links. I've seen them both, and they don't seem to do the trick. Clearly it has something to do with the binding and/or the expected file path. Once I get the database imported on the laptop, in ACDSee it gets all the thumbnails and I can search for say, all my ribbons, and it will show the thumnails, but if I try to Go to the file I get an error. What I have been able to do is look at the properties of an item and determine the expected file path and then create the file path and move all the files.

Maybe I will work on this on Monday, and post more specifics about my file locations, the errors I get, and where ACDSee expects the filed to be.

Kathleen, beyond me, but I have just asked dh's opinion (he hates it when I do that!) - he says it sounds to him as though you have only copied the database, and you need to copy all the data files across, in the same file structure as you have on your desktop. Hope this makes sense?

:( :( :( Oh dear, now that I have read him your original post he says this is not correct - he can see what you are trying to do and the advice won't work. So sorry :( :( :(

I will alert digiscrapinfo, hopefully someone will help?

OK, if your organizing came over OK meaning your categories are there and you can search your thumbnails the we just need to hook that up to the correct file locations. Are you using an EHD or did you move or copy your stash to the new computer? Either way, you need to keep the file structure exactly the same. What is the difference between the file path where it thinks it will find a file and where the file is actually at? Is it just a drive letter or are there other differences?

Don't worry, we can work through this and get you back up and running. Thanks for hanging in there!

Thanks for the reply! Guess I'm safe to assume I won't have any problems with Vista! Yea!

I have just started using my laptop with Vista, and I haven't come across any problems. I recommend you go to digiscrapinfo to help get the database on your new machine.

Hi, Kristi. Rather than posting in this thread, I created a new thread with a detailed explanation of what happens when I export/import my ACDSee database:

Imported Databse Does Not Know Correct File Location (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36340)

I can post over at DigiScrapInfo if you would rather have it there, or I can open a support ticket with ACDSee.

Thanks for any assistance!!
