what's best?

I voted July. If we do end up moving to Tennessee in June, this would give me time to get us all settled in. If we move up before June, then that's all the better! :D

I'm wide open. No one month is better than the other for me; barring any problems with my mother, I'm planning to make it.

I voted June because spring football will be done. Vacation in July as well as the start of fall football and cheerleading. I really hope I can make it to the crop. It was such a fun time last year.

Well, I voted April *shrug*, but looks like June is in the lead...
That would be ok as long as it was the 2nd half perhaps.

I'm good any of those months!

KY Bumpkin
01-20-2009, 06:18 PM
Of course for those who had an interest in sightseeing in Old Washington, the warmer months would be best I reckon!

Tina
01-20-2009, 06:40 PM
Yeah, i probably should have consulted Lori before posting the poll! LOL! She's the one coordinating with me (aka, she does most the work).

What's Old Washington?

Tina

I voted for June, but I'm flexible for any month. July might be tough but nothing I couldn't work around.

Lori - when it gets closer I want the info you have about the covered bridges. I'd like to get out and photograph one or two. If others are interested we could go together.

KY Bumpkin
01-20-2009, 06:57 PM
Covered bridges. Sure thing! Will get hubby on to making a map for us, LOL! how far out do you want to go fro bridges? There's some over in Ohio also...

Yes Tina, that's Old Washington. Us locals call it South Maysville now since it was anexed a few years back, LOL! Harriett Beecher Stowe museum is there and pretty interesting to tour.

also, just across the river in Ripley, for history hounds is The Rankin House, an important stop on the Underground Railroad.

What would ya say that is, Lori? 15 mins?

Tina
01-20-2009, 07:19 PM
There are 5 in Brown County, Ohio. There's one not far from Maysville (also in Ripley).

North Pole Rd is the one outside Ripley.

PRETTY sure, that the North Pole Rd one is still open to traffic. Trying to remember. A few years back my parents, Tate and I went to all of them in the surrounding counties.

Rankin House wasn't open the last year, however we still walked around the grounds and walked part of the steps. The view is amazing. There is also a diner in Ripley - I don't know the name - that has an old-style soda fountain. The most popular flavor at least while we were there was a marshmallow coke.

Tina
01-21-2009, 10:16 PM
Do you mean the "50's Diner", Christina?

Here are the hours for the Rankin House

That must be the one. We stopped on the way home last year which was on a Sunday and the house was supposed to be open. The couple we met told us in the non-busy season the person working the house doesn't open sometimes on Sunday.

KY Bumpkin
01-21-2009, 10:23 PM
Christina are you talking about Rockin Robins in Ripley? If so, it's way cool, LOL!

Tina
01-21-2009, 11:04 PM
Oooooh! I bet that is it. I forgot that was there. I haven't been in forever.

mommabyrd2003
01-22-2009, 12:02 AM
I don't remember the name, but Rockin' Robin sounds right. It's on the street closest to the shoreline. I think the outside is black and white checkered as is the floor inside. There is a ton of Elvis, soda, and other memorabilia inside. The couple we met own the building which is the only reason we found it. You can see the checkers from Rankin Hill.

Tina
01-22-2009, 12:06 AM
yeah, thats gotta be Rockin Robin's its on the main drag in front of the Ohio.

KY Bumpkin

June is bad for me and that is winning. I want to come to a crop this summer though, so hopefully June will take a backseat.

Betsyfru
02-10-2009, 03:46 PM
Well, I've never been to a crop and it seems as though there may never be one in the mid-Atlantic states, so I may try to come to this one! I think June would be best for me.

Bumping this--are we any closer to getting a date? Looks like there may be a ton of travel choices for crops this summer if the other threads are an indication!

Tina

Any news on a date yet?

Melissa
03-13-2009, 10:18 PM
I see according to the poll that it's leaning toward happening in June. I'm just checking to see if a date has been set yet. DH and I have talked about it and I told him how much this means to me to be able to go and meet some of the people I talk to every day. So I'm really trying this time, to come!

KY Bumpkin
03-14-2009, 09:26 AM
OK, I'll fess up that I dropped the ball on this! I will call today and see what dates the building is available in June, and get back with you tonight on a date!

KY Bumpkin
03-14-2009, 01:30 PM

Scamp I'm so jealous! Here I am wondering if I can swing 1 LOCAL crop, and you're wondering about 2 long distance ones, LOL! Ah to be footloose and fancy free!

scamptx
03-17-2009, 06:51 AM
Lori--I wish I were truly footloose and fancy free! These two short trips are being made with double duty--got genealogy research that I can do in both places. As far as the fancy free part goes, these trips are my "break" from the full time job that pays the rent and the part time job--my mother, who moved to assisted living here. Believe you me, I need it!

(The cat doesn't know it, but he and I are going on short rations between now and then as well...:D)

Please come! It'll be so great to meet up with everyone!

KY Bumpkin
03-19-2009, 05:34 PM
Ah I see! Sounds like you do need a break! And I won't tell the cat on you either, LOL!
