I REALLY want a Font Thing alternative, but I don't want to spend $49 dollars for it. So, searching around I found this AMP Font Viewer (http://www.ampsoft.net/utilities/FontViewer.php), that sounds like it does everything that Font Thing did but that it is being kept up to day and plays well with Vista. Has anyone used it or learned more about it?

I use both Font Thing and AMP Font viewer. AMP is much easier to move fonts around between folders. And I like how it opens up a folder in a separate window with a sample view of the fonts in it. And it doesn't lock up on me like Font THing sometimes does. I don't have Vista though, so I can't help you there.

I downloaded a trial of Printer's Apprentice and ended up buying it ($25). I haven't played with it as much as I would like but it's another alternative you might want to consider.

Oh man! Do you mean that The Font Thing doesn't work with Vista?
I've been meaning to load it on my new computer. . . should I not?

I use AMP Font Viewer. I got it when I could no longer see certain fonts in Font Thing, and learned that they would no longer be updating. It does everything I need.

The Font Thing was new some time in the 90's, maybe late 90's, and it hasn't been updated since. There are types of fonts (like Open Fonts) that won't work with Font Thing, and it has become infamous for freezing up and having all sorts of difficulties with XP and Vista. I have tried to get it on this computer since I first got it over a year ago, and I have not been able to get it work once. Others have reported that they can get it to work some.

This is exactly the kind of thing I was wanting to hear. Thank you.

Wow, I didn't realize it was so old. I had it on my last two computers and loved it.
I might have to try AMP too. Thanks for starting this thread.

I need a new font viewer, I was using Fontonizer, but it keeps locking on me and contacting support has not been any help. I never got a response.
Will have to check these out. Printers Apprentice looks pretty impressive, will have to download the trial and try it out!

I used Amp Font viewer with our last Windows XP and now Vista.
The font thing worked with Windows 98.
I changed to Amp Font when we got Windows Xp.

I used The Font Thing on XP, loved it and never had a minute's problem! It was so irritating on Vista that I finally uninstalled!
Thanks for the suggestions; I need to find a new manager, for sure! :D
