View Full Version : Gimme a clue with a difference

This gimme a clue is a bit different. I was approached by a customer through the store asking me to make a kit specifically to match a baby set she had bought.
I thought this would be the best way to do it !!
So here is the inspiration for our next kit
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/freebies/gimmeaclue/sample.jpg
Lets hear some ideas for backgrounds and elements to match this ( remembering I cant " copy" but I can use it as inspiration

LOL hmmmmm. . . . I think we need a plaid background! But something subtle, a fine plaid 'cause I have trouble using bold patterns on backgrounds without them overwhelming the layout, and I think that particularly for a baby layout it's easier to use more delicate things. So a plaid in the last 3 colors, maybe with a touch of the black.
And a check in the two greens

oops-- just noticed you asked for element ideas now too! I love those pillows, so I'd like to see puffy fimo type elements like that: flowers, toadstools, ladybugs, butterflies, snails, maybe a little crown like in the inspiration set, or little fairy wings.

oohhhh thank you!!!! I think a cordaroy looking background would be cute, and maybe an extension of a forest theme, different kinds of snails, mushrooms and maybe like an owl or something. my sister loves plaids?

A light green paper with a dark green snail near one corner leaving a trail of something dark pink behind it :D
Or a line of small puffy mushrooms running down 3/4 of one side and along 3/4 of the bottom, sort of blended in and faint.

Would it be copying too much to do snail, flower and crown elements? Maybe with a chipboard type look?
Some sort of swirl element.
mcbowersox
02-04-2009, 02:48 PM
I love the colors, btw. . .
A ruffle (like on the pillow) that could be used as a border/ribbon-like-element. If you put in a neutral/tan paper and a green one, the kit could be used for more than just a baby girl even though it has pink...especially if you add snails and mushrooms! You need a pinkish chipboard title of some sort as well. Maybe "Baby Love"?

Green bg with swirls of stitching over it (a bit like the shell of the snail).
Bg with green leaves and little pink flowers (just like the sole of my shoe at home...hmm might just have to scan that when I get home). Could even be self embossed colour wise, with an overlay of the green leaves that you could use or not use.
Silver/gold snail charm, maybe even with a bit of bling.

Could actually do the floral vines paper from Daisy Delight in a different colour combo.
Also would love some knotted ribbons in a vertical strip - a bit like the ribbons in Ribbonorama Page Kit (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_18&products_id=4591).

I agree with Sandy about wishing the deep pink was in something else. It's such a dominant color in the bedding I think it would match better if it were in more. Maybe more like the plaid in the pillow.
Of course, there's still the elements.
The last paper is fantastic! It's my fave for sure!

I seem to be alone but I liked the 2nd posting of the plaid paper, with more green in it. I love the flower and all the papers. The snail ribbon was really neat looking idea too.
I am partial to glitter effects and I wonder if a glitter shelled snail would work, or a snail with a saddle so the baby can ride it on the page.
What about a mushroom/toadstool "house" frame with a window or a door that could have a cut out for a picture behind/inside of it.
I think there are butterflies on the quilt. What about quilted wings that I can attach a cut out of the baby?

Loving this kit! I'm thinking since we have 2 elements with prominent dark pink, maybe the ruffle page strip I requested earlier could be in a cream color, with little bits of embroidery in the darker green and the deep pink - maybe with a scalloped edge which is satin stitched.
I think an embroidery hoop would also make a great photo frame for the kit.

A cream satin ribbon (vertical) going down to a buckle like you'd find on braces and then a cool button to connect it to if we want (maybe like the flowers on the paper).

Love the dangles! And I love the idea of a shiny snail trail! It could be like a flourish, like sandy wanted, but we could journal on it too!

Stitching!... circle of stitching to hold the frame down or maybe a blanket stitched circle to go on the inside of the frame.
Or a swirly stitching overlay.
Or a blanket stitched frame.

I think we need more cream. How about a cream flower or butterfly with pink accents, or a green toadstool with cream "spots"

I would love to see one of your swirl elements, except instead of metal, done in a satin stitch. I can see this done in the dark green - then a separate little pink flower shaped button that could be added to it.
well its not satin stitch but hope you like it anyway - - now we just need a name for this kit

Applique Garden sounds good. I was thinking how about the name of the baby of the person who asked you to make this kit, it could be named ......'s Garden after her/him.

Oh! Oh! Oh!
You could do a coordinating kit with more boyish color options (and the toadstools hehe)
and call it Baby (boy's name)'s garden, and this one could be Baby (girl's name)'s garden!
LOL I crack myself up
