As promised, a poll for the two dates we have facilities reserved for a crop.

Here are the two possibilities:

Date(s): 3/21/2009Time: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Room: Meeting Room

Library: Maple Valley Library
Map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Maple+valley+WA+library&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=27.366321,56.601563&ie=UTF8&ll=47.379657,-122.049894&spn=0.091131,0.2211&z=12)

The library is located about 15-20 minutes east of I-5 off of Highway 18. It's actually a beautiful facility, cozy and surrounded by trees. Nothing in walking distance, but within a mile of food (Teriyaki, QFC, McDonalds, KFC, ice cream store similar to Coldstone, Starbucks, etc.) It is across the street from a large park, arboretum, walking paths, etc., in case family is coming and wants something to do. There is a rec center across the street, too; I'll try to find out if there are any kids activities planned that day.

Date(s): 4/18/2009
Time: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Room: Meeting Room 1
Library: Federal Way 320th Library
Map

I'm not sure about walking distance, but near to Applebees, Panera, and most every chain restaurant. (Jennifer: You're more familiar with the area if you'd like to add selling points, including activities for family that come along.)

I have not received confirmation on either venue, but I'm pretty sure we have them.

There is yet one more option: Those of us who live in the Puget Sound area could get together on the March date to scrap and to plan for a larger event in April - so that we make it really worth the while of those of you coming from far away.

OK, let's keep this poll open for a week and see where we are.

Thanks!

Sheryl

I'm leaning toward your third option! Not that I am from your area! But I'm just marking here so that I remember to come back and vote once I have talked with DH.

Both March and April dates are approved by the Library. So please take your pick!

Hi Sheryl, I'm definitely interested but will be out of town March 21, so the April date works best for me. Note that the Federal Way 320th library is the small, older library (not to be confused with the new regional Federal Way library). It is not really within short walking distance to the mall or Panera's or Applebee, but there are lots of choices if driving.

There is a park nearby for smaller children (about a couple blocks from where I live). There's also an Aquatics Center: http://www.kingcounty.gov/recreation/parks/pools/wkcac.aspx

It really all depends on what you want to do or are interested in. There are a few hotels and motels and such right off of the exit. There's a new theater the Commons Mall built a couple months or so ago. Haven't been yet, but it's pretty nice, I hear. There's also a bunch of major stores around and another older movie theater right off the exit by the AT&T store. Tacoma has the Emerald Queens Casino, Tacoma Dome, Chuck E Cheese, and Seattle, of course, has tons of stuff.

I also voted for the April date in FW, but only because I'll be out of town on 3/21.

The MV library is so much prettier though, I'd rather meet there.

The FW Community Center is pretty expensive, although I don't know what day passes run. Its awesome for kids though - indoor "lazy river" pool, water slide, more like a mini-water park than a pool. There is also a climbing wall for older kids. About 2 miles from the 320th library is Redondo Beach boardwalk (not walking distance, but a great walk on the beach once you get there!) There are also other beaches within 10-15 minutes of there if the weather is nice. Also, the Hylebos Creek Wetlands are a beautiful, short walk. Most of it is on a boardwalk also (about a 1 mile loop) and some awesome photos to take there. My office is a mile away from the FW library, so I am very familiar with the area.

I'm so glad to see another fan of the Maple Valley library. Now that I know how to book the rooms, we can plan on another in the summer - at lest for those of us in the Greater Seattle area.

Barring a miracle, I expect my best friend to enter hospice care soon. I hope to spend as much time with her as I can. (Happily, we were just given an extra week of vacation in lieu of raises.)

Do I have a volunteer to serve as co-point person on this, in case I have to drop the ball for a few weeks?

Thanks, Sheryl

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. It looks like I will be canceling the March date, but I'll wait just awhile longer.

I think the April date will work best, looks like most agree! I've also been telling others when I find they are within driving distance, so will start telling them a date! Oh, how fun!

I had my mammogram yesterday, and the facility was a few doors down from the Federal Way Library, so I stopped by to snap a couple shots from my cell phone:
