This one is called "100 Themes"

As you can guess, it involves 100 Themes. I've already got a poetry one underway, which is going well & is loads of fun! We're going to publish all the entries in a book once we've selected the best 2 for each theme. (More info on that is available if you wish, just ask!)

Anyway, back to this idea... 100 Themes = 100 Scrapbook Pages. (Hopefully from 100 different people!) Which shall then be transformed into a book... =D

RULES:

1. Your chosen theme MUST be from this list. You can pick any one of them. It doesn't matter if someone else is already doing a layout on that theme, that just means you'll have competition when the book is made!
2. There will be one layout per theme. To guarantee publication in the book try to pick a theme no-one else has. If you all let me know your chosen theme when you pick it I can then notify you which themes are still free & which they'll have competition against.
3. You can chose more than one theme if you wish, but I'm trying to get 100 different artists in this book, so unless you're the only entrant into a few themes, you probably wont get all layouts published.
4. The decision of the final pieces will be left to an external source, to provide an honest, non biased oppinion.
5. There is no limit to what you can put on your page, as long as it clearly conveys your chosen theme. Whether this be in the title, journaling, pictures, embellishments or whatever.
6. All completed entrants must send their layouts, 12x12 please, along with a decent photo of themselves, their name & location (Ie. North Carolina, USA. Tyne & Wear, UK etc) & obviosly their chosen theme to me. Just ask me for the email address.
7. Finally, have FUN!

I'm really hoping to get this underway soon & to get 100 different people submitting work.

I'll keep everyone posted on this & on the publication etc...

Hi, Cate. Definitely an intriguing list of themes, and I applaud your enthusiasm!

I hate to be skeptical, but ... I would be very cautious of submitting something for publication with the above information. Without knowing anything about how this book is going to be published, by whom, marketed to what audience, the external source to provide a non-biased opinion, etc. there is just too much opportunity for something to be taken in a way I don't want.

If I submit something to say Memory Makers or Creating Keepsakes, these are known national (international?) publications, and I have a general idea of the overall content of the magazine. Personally, I don't have that comfort level with what you have outlined above. Maybe I am just to cautious. Maybe a bit more information would be helpful?

Hi Kathleen,

Being a tad skeptical of some thinghs myself, I do understand your concerns. I'm trying to type up more information as I type this!

To try to answer a few things:

It's mainly just a fun thing to do, nothing major & to raise a bit of money for charity/DSP.

The book would be published by Lulu.com a free online publishing company. It would then be up to us to promote it, on DSP & to friends/family etc. The proceeds would then go to charity, or even to DSP (because choosing a charity could be difficult!!)

All copyrights would stay with the creator of the peice of work & it would be entirely upto them if they decided they no longer wanted to submit anything. The work would be used solely for the one publication of this book & nothing else. They are also free to re-use this work for anything else they wish, be it other magazines/books/web sites etc.

Phtographs & names are just so readers know who created the page. You don't have to submit photos if you don't want. I'll just go with the majority vote, photo's or no photo's!

All entrants would be involved in the design/publication process of the book. I may start out with a basic book/page design, but would welcome all comments/ideas. I don't just want this to be a book I've created full of other peoples works, I'd like everyone to get involved as much as possible.

As for external sources, I was hoping to get someone non-related to DSP to pick the best from multiple entry themes, but have since decided I'll ask a member of the DSP team to judge instead.

I'll constantly keep people updated if they do want to join in, and once it gets to publication time & actually designing the book I'll be sending everyone a "test" copie, so they can see how the book develops & be part of the process, I'll take on board everyones suggestions/ideas.

I don't know if this helps at all, but I really hope it does!!!
