After several attempts, I think I can achieve the out of frame effect, following the MyJanee tutorial - here's the link: http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/breakout/breakout.htm

BTW, unless I'm losing my mind, this tutorial has a few glitches in it and I wound up including a few Select-Inverse steps that weren't included in the tutorial - has anyone else experienced this??.

Anyway, what I want is to be able to have an actual frame/border around my picture, so that the lower left part of my picture is the part that is "outside" of the frame/border (please see my screenshot - please pay no attention to the messiness of the out-of-frame technique - I was just practicing!)

Can anyone tell me how to include an actual frame/border - and can it be skewed to give it more dimension?

nice job! If you just think about this as a partial extraction, it's easier to wrap your brain around. You can include a frame. Just put it on a layer under your photo. Check the Scrapalong Schedule for the Out-of-Frame we did a few months ago, it has a skewed frame to make the photo look like a pop-up book.
I have a layout in my gallery with my daughter's arm hanging out of a frame. Just one step farther and you're there! A fun technique: this was a good photo for it
