View Full Version : New Challenge - help please!

I'm sitting here trying to design tonight, and started about three kits, and didn't like any of them, and thought - hmmm..... I know where to get some inspiration! From YOU!
So.... this challenge, is new to ME! It isn't new to YOU, you all have been playing at it with the other designers, but I want to give it a go, at least once and we'll see how I do.
So you all suggest a color scheme, and then we go from there with you making suggestions. You can win the final product if I create one of your suggestions. A page kit has twelve bits, so there could be up to twelve winners. Okay? Okay.
But.... I need a snappy name for my challenge too! "Make-suggestions-for-Z's-next-page-kit" just seemed a smidge too long. So if anyone has a better thinking cap than mine right now, please make a suggestion!
Meanwhile, show me your potential color schemes below and here we go!
Thanks!

Oh, and an overlay - a skinny smoky one?

a good name for this challenge would be "give Z ideas to design a new kit for Caro to use"...... heheheheheh or is that a little too long as well

I like De-zine with Z, too!
or maybe. . . Pleaze, Z? lol
I was gonna ask for a kit to coordinate with Noble Heart, but I took my daughter to a Chinese New Year celebration and she keeps coming up to me pretending she's drawn or built a dragon out of her blocks, and saying "I lika de dragon!" so I'm gonna cast my vote that way (if i get one hehe)

I love Sizzle with Z, but De-Zine with Z says it a little better. Maybe a combination: De-Zine Sizzle with Z (Me)! And here's a color swatch too!

Okay, I'm sitting here having quite a giggle - okay I'm loling at some - at the suggested challenge names, mostly because I'm zaying zem out loud and zey zound funny!
But I love them! And I love several of the color swatches, so I can't wait to get started! Just lemme grab my coffee!
Bludlfn003 - what I do is to host the image on Imageshack, just because I've always used it, but you can host them in your gallery here, then provide a link to that using the tools in the "go advance" way to post reply. If I have to click a link to see your colors that's fine too! Thanks!

Oh I like those too! Sheesh, it's really really hard to pick!
A lot of the color schemes were in my comfort zone, especially the beach and nature ones, but I kept looking at the Lion King one and wondering how I'd handle that - and didn't really know, should it be on my own - and so I think I'll go with it - thanks Lynnie! - and see what it is YOU all want me to do with it!
And Dezign With Z it iz! lol.... Next time we'll have a properly labelled thread, for now let's keep going with this - I need a kit to give out in bingo next month! Woo hooo!
Do you want to keep a tribal feel for this, or go somewhere completely different? We'll see!
So suggest a background now; I can hardly wait to get started! Oh, and if we need another neutral while we're at it let's use the charcoal too:

02-23-2009, 05:22 PM
yay! you picked my name... I feel clever... that never happens
I would like to see a background with the same stringy texture as the thing in the photo.
Also how about a painted background (like your Paint the Day papers) using the dark red.
sammdc
02-23-2009, 07:22 PM
totally love both the colours and the name you chose Z
debilou
02-23-2009, 08:24 PM
I think we need a striped paper with the major colors in it...
Charcoal being the major color and little stripes of the yellows and greens..
Heidi
02-23-2009, 08:42 PM
You picked a good one... Dezign with Z!! We sure are having alot of fun with those Zs!!!
handkl
02-23-2009, 10:39 PM
I am all for stripes!
I would also like to see a combo of the red and brown - perhaps overlayed and little grungy
What about a checkered background incorparting some if not all of the colours, I would like to see the edges of each square a little rough and almost blending into one another.
Elisabeth
02-23-2009, 11:24 PM
"Stringy" background
"Red and brown combo grungy with checkers..." um, more or less...
What next?

I love the name and the colours! LOVE those first 2 backgrounds too! How about a green background, grungy and chalked/inked up around the edges?
Lynnie
02-24-2009, 03:01 AM
I'm so excited - I love the colours - I have a thousand pictures to use with this scheme :) Love the green background, grungy and chalked/inked up around the edges suggestion...

Love it! Do we still need another background? If so, how about the tan color as a kraft paper sort of background with flecks of the bright color?
Jenni
02-24-2009, 08:33 AM
Oh my! This is going to be gorgeous!!! I can't wait to see how it turns out.....and use it! :-)
idtwinmom
02-24-2009, 10:36 AM
A neutral solid in the charcoal or tan, a little grungy, and the texture needs to be fabricy like canvas as the other ones feel that way too!
Then for the first elements, this definitely needs string, how about the colors of the striped paper twisted together so that it looks kind of variegated. And then a small tag to hang from it for dates, etc.
just-pjz
02-24-2009, 11:17 AM
Definitely a tan background, and I agree it needs to be texture-y.
How about a slight burlap or canvas texture, maybe a bit frayed and ripped in some spots along the edge?
romey
02-24-2009, 11:44 AM
Love how this is turning out. Like the idea of the textured tan bg and Jill's idea of the variegated string. If you decide to use a flower I would love to see a sunflower!
just-pjz
02-24-2009, 12:04 PM
If you don't do string, how about rafia?
pinky7
02-24-2009, 12:17 PM
OH, GOODIE! This is lots of fun!
OK, I think if you took the two colors under the red and did one as the background and did the other colors as a graph it would be good!
pinky7
02-24-2009, 12:37 PM
And, just to be sure I got it in here because I am thinking of it right now, how about a pom pom looking thing, but not quite as full as a pom pom. Hawaiian dancers use more of the thing I am thinking of. Let me see if I can get a picture!
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff17/pinky076/pom-poms.jpg
Elisabeth
02-24-2009, 03:21 PM
Here is the fourth background - flecked, textured, frayed, brown. I put the red as the peekaboo color because if I made it a png instead of a jpg, it makes the kit HUGE. Is this okay? I saved my layered file and can change that if you want it to be open.

How about a travel journal... really grunged... this looks like we are going on a trip some where.. The raffia or string listed above, could like tie it together, if we wanted....
Or a postcard.. but grunged edges... for journaling??
debilou
02-24-2009, 03:31 PM
For the frame, how about a Weathered lifted (like in one corner frame)... but kind of beat up a little bit...
just-pjz
02-24-2009, 03:34 PM
Oh, Z, I love that textured bg!! Just what I had in mind.
I'm on slow dial-up, so I always prefer smaller files ;) so of course, I say leave the peek-a-boo color.
Elisabeth
02-24-2009, 04:30 PM
I added the string and the tag to hang from it.
Tell me more about the frame - weathered sounds good; what shape do you want, etc?
I like the ideas for journaling; let me chew on them a while. Keep making suggestions; this is fun!

debilou
02-24-2009, 05:07 PM
Since the tags are rectangle, what if the frame was square..
But weathered.. and like has one lifted or bent corner...
And, lighter than the tan color paper to show up of course...
And, the journal book.. - mine is always ringed (so I can rip out pages) and torn tattered pages... lined... ) like you would take on an adventure... but beat up a little to go with the other grunged elements... so you could write down your notes...
or a postcard (the back side of course) to send back to your DSP friends.. but again.. like it got weathered... with the tribal theme...
idtwinmom
02-24-2009, 06:23 PM
I like a rectangular frame (there's lots of square ones out there!). Love the idea of a bent corner! Maybe you could even do the frame the same shape as the tags!
I also liked the PomPom idea!
Love the string and tags BTW! :) And the textures in this kit are awesome!
Elisabeth
02-24-2009, 10:10 PM
Lighter than the tan, beat up frame in the shape of the tags. It looks like thick cardboard or chipboard, so I didn't bend up the corners more than slightly. Do you want another frame for small multiple photos that bends up?
I added the same stamp to the tags for some continuity.

handkl
02-24-2009, 10:34 PM
Loving how this kit is turning out Z!!!
I think we need a brad of sort - perhaps a square black one.
Also, what about some round sticker similar to those in the stamp on the tags.
pinky7
02-24-2009, 10:35 PM
How about a slide frame?
Elisabeth
02-24-2009, 10:42 PM
Lol, I promise I won't always be this fast! I was just eager to work on this and dedicated last night and today to do it.
I'm working on the journaling element now. About the "pompom thing" - would that be like a tassel for our purposes? I am having trouble visualizing it as a scrapping element otherwise.

02-24-2009, 10:48 PM
How about a slide frame?

Awesome, Z!!
Maybe a chipboard word art saying "life's a jungle" or something like that
We need something to 'cluster.'
How about something like
...a chipboard totem pole (did I really say that!)
...jungle leaves
...orchids
...birds
...straw bundle
They all sound odd, but maybe they will inspire you to do something sensible with the ideas :)
Elisabeth
02-25-2009, 12:45 AM
Ooh! I love the idea of taking toward jungle something....woo hoo, lemme see what I can come up with. Meanwhile, back at the ranch...will these do for the pompom idea?

Congo Paradise
