I found Erica's latest Lucky Dips tonight and enjoyed the "let your hair down" challenge. :)

Alessandro and I enjoyed our morning at the beach at the Gold Coast; I watched the young men play touch football, and Alessandro checked out the bikinis... We both watched the lifesavers calling people back in to swim between the flags. :D

I had one last week. It's fun, isn't it? Mine got me a new kit and a word art and spurred me off into lots of happy scrapping. God bless GT fairy godmothers. Long may they grace us with their presence. :)
Joan, Sean Connery would look cute next to you. I think he may be worthy of you. You do rock, you know! :)

a little Joke for you all:
THE BROKEN LAWN MOWER
When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, Kate kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed.
Somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the truck, the car, playing golf Always something more important to me.
Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors.
I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house.
I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush.
I said, 'When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway.'
The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.

Morning, Ladies! DH's uncle and his wife (after a car crash...no injuries, thank goodness) decided to head straight home to Arkansas instead of making a side trip to Indiana. The good part of this is my house is clean, the yard is mowed, the laundry caught up...so, I can spend today scrapping!

I have to tell you I should have listened to you guys about WD external hard drives. The one I bought last summer went away for holiday 2 days ago. I couldn't access it or get it to come on. It was sure worth the solid month it took to back everything up on Mozy!!! DH thinks it's just the power supply that has failed cuz when you plug it in the green light comes on and then fades out. He called WD this morning and they are sending me a new power supply. That's pretty good customer service so far. I hope the power supply is all it is!! Otherwise I'll have to learn how to restore a Mozy backup. I do have another external and I may try to restore back to a week ago if I have enough room to do that. There are a few pictures downloaded from my camera and a few new kits I couldn't resist, but I still have the kits in my Downloads folder on my lappie. Unfortunately, the portable external is also a WD!:eek::eek:
Thanks Mars for the nice sparkly graphic for our anniversary and the rest of your best wishes! We had a great day hiking around our land trying to find the eastern property line so the excavator can put in the leech field and be comfortable that it's not on the neighbor's land. It was a beautiful day and I saw parts of our land I'd never seen before.
DH has decided to hang on to the dog's ashes for a little while longer. He feels a bit of comfort knowing she's back home, and I think I do too.
PQ - I sure hope you can stop and meet up on your way through ugly town! Even if just for a quick cup a coffee at Perkins (it's right off the highway on Harrison St). ;) I've been dying to meet you since I learned you lived so close to me! Have a great trip to Missoula and enjoy the concert (who is playing BTW?). The weather is supposed to be gorgeous!

Clickfree is an EHD that you just plug into the USB and it automatically backs up all your music, videos, photos etc....the backup process was great it's just how it backed everything up that's causing problems...saw it on QVC ....250 gb for $99.00 spread over 3 payments....can get a better deal this weekend so I may be looking for a new EHD...:annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

Kay, I have a Maxtor one and a Simpletech one. Both are one touch backups. In the preferences you tell it what and when you want to backup and it does it automatically, and you can also just press one button and it backups up. I advise against anything that has a Western Digital drive in it. I've not had much luck at all with WD. And be careful cos sometime on the outside they say its a certain make but the internal drive inside is still WD.

Inky - a lot of the pics I pinch from Summer's Facebook or MySpace are really small, too. I just do the 10% rule thingy when transforming them, and generally get great results!

I was quite surprised because normally I work with large photos and thought that these would be extremely grainy - I did use quite a few filters on it that may have helped!

Well GRRRR!!! The clickfree backed up 29 gigs in about 45 minutes ! sounds good right ?
Nope, it reorganized my kits...I have them organized numerically anyway, clickfree downloaded each individual element in eack kit !!! Now I can't find anything !!!
Grrrr!!!!
I would delete it and start over. I have mine in files by designer. So, my Christine Gundersen file is full of all my kits by Gundi. I just manually moved the files into the EHD. It only took a few minutes.
I have the 1TB one touch Maxtor (actually, I have 3.........yes, I am paranoid) and I have been very happy with it. (Crossing my fingers now that my talking about it does not jinx things).

only that it needs to be less than 50kb or 125pixel x 125 pixels
PQ!! You are a genius!! You have finally figured out why I am so tired all the time! It would take a whole room full of three and four year olds with all their energy to keep up with some of these grannies! You've explained it finally! I'll just skip over all the high energy posts and conserve what little energy I'm allotted each day!! :yahoo:
I am a genius???? Wow! Thanks! That is the first time anyone has used that adjective in connection with me. I have to leave now and go and do my happy dance.
Hey ladies - We are visiting my parents for the long weekend but I watned to stop by and say hi. I am having trouble typing on their new laptop though - the keys are not as sensitive as the ones on mine and I keep having to POUND the keys to get them to type all the letters. Very strange!
Anyway, all you lovely grannies have a great weekend, and I wll hopefully get to drop in once or twice more!
I had one of those keyboards that you had to pound on for years and I finally broke down and bought a new one about 3 months ago. I wish I had bought one sooner. Now you know what you can get them on the next gift giving occassion!

It is Suzanne Walker's IA that made my pages look so good. I didn't do anything but pop in the photos, dates, and journaling. I used one of Lauren's IA last month and am using Suzanne's this month. Sure makes scrapping go faster. I am caught up this year and might even have time to go back and catch up on 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008. We went to Alaska in 2005 and I've scrapped hardly any of the photos. Went to England in 2004. Same story.

God blessed me with one of those gentle learning experiences too when I was 17. I was going to the store in this little tiny town that could fit into most backyards when I was approaching an intersection where the stop sign was on the crossroad, not mine. I saw a car coming on that road but knew that she had the stop sign so knew she would stop - WRONG! She just dinged my front fender a little but it sure terrified me and her both! Now I never, ever, ever trust people to stop at intersections and it has saved me many times - once someone was going so fast and never stopped at all when they should have; I'm sure I would have been killed or seriously injured had I not stopped instead. I've always been so grateful for that little *accident* or lesson from God and have told my kids about it many times. Thank you Lord!

Ok, on the Scrappy Awards... I'm sooo confused...
I thought you could only put in One entry per member in each category..
like say I had one for Best Extraction... but I'm seeing multiple members entering their layouts in the same category...
Is there a reason for this...
perhaps to see the interest... and then they'll pull the others out, maybe before the deadline, or I'm I blonde?

Blond for you, OldTimers forgetfulness for me. I just gave up the tension of the Scrappies a while ago. As I have said before, I don't do competition, but this was an exception. Now I have added the Scrappies to my list of Don't-Dos.
This is supposed to be FUN. If the award carried an hours free run at the store...well, maybe...
Then, too, I have been known to change my mind and there ARE people leaving little notes around.

Just wanna pop in and say thank you to PQ for her lovely suggestions on what I should enter into the scrappies. :love1:
Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have internet by the time the scrappies roll in, so I'm gonna have to pass this year I think. I'll know more for sure come tuesday after I call the podunk phone company up there.

I don't know where podunk is but I'm sure ( I think ) they have internet. (hehe) When will you be in Tennessee? There are several of us here. I sometimes think about leaving internet to save money. No one working in my household and Phone bills are higher, we're used to internet and satelite. All that is a couple of hundred a month.

My DH was telling me about this and figured the grannies would have an opinion. (Of course, when don't we have an opinion. ) Have you all heard about the stir with WalMart? Apparently some music group (Green something, I think) is having a cow because their single/album, whatever is #1 and WalMart won't sell it because it has a parental advisory on it and their policy is to not sell stuff that has to have a parental advisory. So the music folks are wah wahing about how WalMart is interfering with their "art" Can you tell whose side I am FIRMLY on?! I say way to go WalMart. They are not REQUIRED to sell stuff that doesn't meet their established guidelines and if whichever group wants to not meet said guidelines they should count on not selling at WalMart. Not a tough concept. I don't think anywhere it is stated that WalMart (or any other company) HAS to sell something just because SOMEONE says it is art! There's my soap box moment, so what do you guys think?

Hi Barbara! Podunk is 'Twin Lakes Telephone Cooperative' country...they've got a monopoly on the area where we're moving to and for what I am paying now for Broadband, I'll be paying for DSL. Granted, it's a helluva lot better than dial-up, but it just irritates me that they refuse to upgrade their services or at least tone down the costs. I guess that's the price you pay for rural living though, and since I prefer rural over big city, I'll just have to make do. :) Luckily I'm already budgeted, so it's not like it's going to be an added expense or anything.
We roll in on the 5th or 6th of June, and it usually takes 2 weeks for Twin Lakes to get their act together long enough to get service set up.

Same story.
I picked up the Mac Friday, and they said it took a long time to transfer because I had almost 20,000 photos. I said, not possible, but then thought maybe it was counting the jpg in the kits. NOT. Somehow, I had a ton of duplicates...not sure if they're on my PC (haven't hooked it back up to check yet) or if somehow several things duplicated their ownselves!
So I've been exploring the wonders of iPhoto (love it!) and seeing photos I'd forgotten I had...and Karen's idea of the IA is fabulous!
Only problem is that I don't have PS on the Mac  and am too lazy to hook up the PC. :o

You may be blonde, but also right!:D

Yes, they will Karen... they will let her exchange a LIKE copy of a PC copy of any Adobe Windows software for the Mac version..
But, IT MUST be the most current version. (and, I don't think Scamp has that)

I love Green Day! Fans will just buy it somewhere else. I bet WalMart sell a lot of books with worse content. True they dont have to sell anything they dont want to sell but they are sure giving great publicity to Green Day and other cd outlets.

Actually, just to give a bit of the other side, I'll jump in here. I don't let my kids buy music with parental advisories either. On iTunes I make them buy the "clean" version of the song versus the "explicit.''
The band you are referring to is Green Day a Punk/Alternative band who is very popular. They are controversial in that most of their lyrics deal with contemporary political and social issues. (Actually, I really like Green Day.) They are not one of those raunchy groups using gratuitous profanity and demeaning women.
Anyway, Green Day says Walmart asked them to make a "clean" version of their album for Walmart to sell and they declined. I don't think Green Day was complaining so much as they were saying they chose not to compromise their own artistic choices.
The labeling of albums has been an issue since it started and will no doubt continue to be an issue for a long, long time. The great thing about our country is that Walmart has a right to decide which products they will sell. It is not government censorship. Consumers have a right to buy the album elsewhere. I don't see why it should really be a big problem for anyone involved.

Now to be known as MFRC.
Which my children ONCE only had a go at playing many years ago.

<<Hey, guys I don't like to hear that you don't think WD is good. I just bought 320GB Western Digital My Passport USB and several people told me that is all they use! So hearing this here is confusing me.>>

I just read all the Green Day Lyrics for their new 21st Century Breakdown cd and out of 18 songs, there are about 7 f words, most of which are in one song, hardly anything too offensive in its own context. Not anything as bad as some rap lyrics. It is one of those albums full of angst and politics and social problems and a bit emo. I wouldnt even have bothered putting a sticker on it.

Yep, I finally got into one lot of lyrics from that album and found it very mild - the one I read, with nothing at all to offend. Touchy issue, though, censorship. I value all our opinions. Um, I don't think my children value mine though. *smirk* :p

But I still have my birthday coupon to spend!
Anyway, I am at home, just about heading for bed, and I have tonsilitis! We did have a great day though, and I did get a number of great pictures from my parents computer as well for scrapbooking!

I managed to get in by about 25 minutes, Bendi!
But I still have my birthday coupon to spend!
Anyway, I am at home, just about heading for bed, and I have tonsilitis! Luckily, my dear Dad is a doctor, and got me some antibiotics when I woke up with a horrible sore throat with the dreaded spots. So I am sort of not going so well here. We did have a great day though, and I did get a number of great pictures from my parents computer as well for scrapbooking!

Well, I was going to say :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:, but as I read forward I guess I'd better say    instead!
Gundi and I each bought a 1TB Seagate for $100 on sale on a holiday weekend. So, maybe your friends could check the sales this weekend and find something good for you! Maxtor, has merged with Seagate, so either which one should be good!
I bought my 1TB Maxtor from Target.
I have the one touch maxtor too and never had any problems with it I love it
Kay, I have a Maxtor one and a Simpletech one.
Thank-you so so much everyone !!! SO now I can talk the EHD talk :tup:
hopefully will soon have one !!!:tup:

:think: What is click-free ?? What type did Hoozie have :think: I am shopping for one and need your ( or ANYONE else's) help !! I have family coming over from Boston next month so she can get one in the US for me but I don't have ANY idea what a good buy would be !! :help::help::help:
I've got two Western Digital EHDs - one desktop and one portable. I've heard too many grannies say their WD's failed, but DH convinced me it has been the best overall drive. Now my power supply has failed we think. Hopefully I don't have to buy a new one, but if I do it won't be a WD. My first EHD was a Lacie and haven't had any problems with it. They are a little more expensive but reliable.
Try New Egg. They have a good selection.
Night all!

I love Green Day! Fans will just buy it somewhere else. I bet WalMart sell a lot of books with worse content. True they dont have to sell anything they dont want to sell but they are sure giving great publicity to Green Day and other cd outlets.
Excellent point, Vallie.
I agree that WalMart has the right to sell what they want, import from third world countries in order to keep prices low, skirt the labor laws of the US with technicalities, and by virtue of their size and choice of locations, drive small businesses in small rural towns out of business by providing goods at rock bottom prices.
Sorry, Gundi--I am not a WalMart fan. But I do agree with you that if they wish to limit their merchandise in any way for any reason, they may do so.

I use to think that I lived in a safe neighborhood. I walk the streets for one hour every night in the dark, (I do choose well light streets and hubby know the route I take just incase) but on Saturday night the house behind us had a party for one of their teenage sons, which was gated crashed by two groups of thugs. We ourselves had friends over that night and as they were leaving we could hear screaming and yells and bottles being thrown around. We stuck our heads over the fence but couldn't see anything. My sister left on her own to drive home but she was back in about two minutes banging on the door to let her back in, she wanted to ring the police as she saw a young kid being hit over the head with a crow bar and other kids kicking in a car with people in it. Turns out that three kids got stabbed that night ..... it so easily could have been my son as he walks home from the local footy club late at night...now I will worry about him every time he is out

I personally love Green Day and never buy music at Walmart (unless it is a gift for someone else) because I can get it cheaper through Napster or iTunes anyway. Walmart gets very little of my business (for the same reasons that Scamp voiced) so it doesn't matter much to me.

From the ages of 4 through 7, I would get tonsilitus at least twice a year, so had mine taken out when I was 7. I've heard that getting it as an adult is far worse, just like getting chicken pox as an adult. :( Take care of yourself Jess!!

That is terrible Dags - you wonder what is wrong with people these days - they get a few drinks into them and become violent. I would be so scared to have teenagers going out these days with all the violence at the night clubs - what is the world coming to!

Scamp why did you change from a pc to mac?
I've been tempted for a long time--but thought that it would be too expensive--both for the machine itself and trying to replace the software that I run.
After seeing Karen's iMac, I was hooked. It's so clean! No box under the table with wires running everywhere, just the monitor with computer in it, a keyboard and a mouse.
Graphics are gorgeous. I'm loving the iPhoto for organizing photos. So far, haven't delved into kits. No problems with transferring. Still learning the iWorks--equivalent to Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Really, really impressed with the possibilities with Pages (Mac Word)--there are templates for making really cool documents, and alls you do to add a photo is drag and drop. Have you ever tried to do a word doc with illustrations? It's a pain to make it look like you want it, then it's a pain to try to edit one that someone else gives you!
This afternoon I'm going to see how transferring via gedcom from Family Tree Maker to Mac's Reunion does. I like the appearance of Reunion, and the ability to put photos in. It's also available for my iTouch, so I can carry my whole family history with me.
I decided that 2010 would be the year of the Mac, and started saving and learning. Got a jump on it with a gift and tax refund, and now am saving for the laptop. When my sister was here, we went to the store to look--she needed a computer, and I thought if she'd buy my Dell, it'd be an excuse for me to get my Mac. Well, we both ended up being sold! :D Not needing the power or bells and whistles that I love, she's ordered a Mac Mini...
If you have an Apple store anywhere close, go visit. This is an unabashed convert speaking here...

You don't have to sell me... I LOVE my MAC...
And, I was a die hard PC user until I had a bad hacker dude...
I made the switch to the mac with no problems at all...
And, I love my mac... the graphics are so great...
It takes up way less space... and, just so easy to use...

Hi Peeps just my up date I told you I was going into hospital on the 3rd June well they brought it forward due to a few problems with my Thyroid and my trachea is being pinched so its a bit hard on my breathing. To say I feel nervy is about right but I have been keeping as busy as I can when I can. The Bank hol has gone well we have had a few days of fantastic sunshine so its been a good lift being able to sit outside in my beloved garden. I now go into hospital on Wednesday at 7-30am so I guess they will do my op that day. I am going to get my hair done in the morning Tuesday as it always makes me feel better.
I will come back once all is done and dusted please keep me in your thoughts.

I got my MAC from Best Buy.
I'm taking the kidlets up to my IL's for the afternoon. It'll be the last time they get to spend time with them before the move. Gramma is cleaning the pool as I type this and the kids are getting swimsuits on. I hope to get some good photos, too. I haven't used my camera at ALL this month! I'm such a bad mom....:worried:

Don't you dare call one of my most favorite people on the planet a bad mom!!!!:love3:

So do you have a large goiter?
I drank more than my fair share in my younger days, so have left off drinking, but this last week with Mother and Mother business and sister visit and work and new computer and and and tempted me to pick up the bottle.
Fortunately, the new computer is making me happy. Busy, but happy. I just need another day or fifty off...pick me too!
I go for ages without without alcohol entering my mind..........then I go through stretches where I have a glass of wine every night......but on a daily basis I find it MUCH harder to leave the diet cola alone than to leave the alcohol alone. I LOVE Diet Pepsi.

Turns out that three kids got stabbed that night ..... it so easily could have been my son as he walks home from the local footy club late at night...now I will worry about him every time he is out
:shocked:How scarey, I always dreaded when the kids wanted a house party in case uninvited people turned up, you just never know.
I used to have chronic tonsillitis. Then I got those bad boys out when I was about 23 and I have not had a problem since. I thought that getting them out was pretty gosh darn awful.

I get tonsilitis like once a year, so it's not an unusual situation for me to be in. Never often enough to warrant getting them taken out, so I just deal with feeling crummy and a couple of days of antibiotics. My honorary grandma says that she think tonsils take the infection so that it doesn't go other places. Who knows  Hopefully I will star feeling really better soon - just took my third dose of the antibiotics!

I used to get tonsillitis constantly, missed lots of time in both elementary and high school. When I was 16, I had them removed (under a local anesthetic, no less) and have been much healthier. My fear was the anesthetic, since my sister had her tonsils taken out when she was 7 and she had ether, which made her really sick at her stomach.

Night all!
I have a LaCie and an HP Personal Media Drive, both working well. I had a Maxtor fail. I will be picking up a 1T as soon as I can afford it. For now I really need to figure out how to organize so I don't have so many repeats and yet get it all together. The LaCie has a shut-off button but the HD doesn't. Should I unplug it every night? Also, my new Dell laptop will not boot up with anything attached to the USB ports. How inconvenient. I probably will call Dell tomorrow to see if there is a fix.

Just opened my Email for the first time in 2 days..........
First DBF (drive by funny):
I love this "new" info...
Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.
Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.
Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!
Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.
Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!
Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! ..... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil.. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?
Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.
Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans ! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!
Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.
Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!
Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.
And remember:
'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride' AND.....
For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.
1. The Japanese eat very little fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
3. The Chinese drink very little red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
CONCLUSION
Eat and drink what you like.Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

1. Kidnappers are not very interested in you.
2. In a hostage situation,
you are likely to be

3. No one expects you to run -- anywhere.
4. People call at 9 PM and ask,
'Did I wake you?'
5. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.
6. There is nothing left to learn the hard way.
7. Things you buy now won't wear out.
8. You can eat supper at 4 PM.
9. You can live 'without --- but not your glasses.
10. You get into heated arguments about pension plans.
11. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.
12. You quit trying to hold your stomach in no matter who walks into the room.
13. You sing along with elevator music.
14.. Your eyes won't get much worse.
15. Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning
to pay off.
16. Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national
weather service.
17. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't
remember them either.
18. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size.
19. You can't remember who sent you this list.
And you notice these are all in big print for your convenience.

I hate what WalMart has done to businesses. In our travels we've heard more than once about how WalMart has moved in WHERE THEY AREN'T WANTED and destroyed locally owned businesses. Small businesses don't stand a chance against WalMart lawyers. We try to shop locally whenever possible. The nearest WalMart is 65 miles away so shopping locally is even more appealing.

I am very sad - Bia did not get into the high school production at Venture Theatre, but her friends did.
One of the employees gave her incorrect information about the audition, so the song she had been practicing for WEEKS, had to be ditched and she had to try and learn a new song in under 36 hours. That is something that is VERY difficult for her.
Then, during the dance part of the audition, they selected a confusing dance that some of the participants had learned earlier and others had never seen at all.
I hate to sound like sour grapes, but when one is already starting off behind the 8 ball, all of these little glitches are a real kick in the teeth.
Now she has sent them an email and asked if she can help with the production in any capacity....PLEASE all you prayer warriors, pray that they will let her be an assistant. She will do anything they ask.......
