Oh that was so fun, I wish I'd done one of these challenges sooner! If you didn't play along last time - well, in all fairness it went really quickly - it's here (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?p=623316#post623316)! So check that out and let's do this again!

I'd never have thunk to do a jungle type kit but waa-laa there it is, and I love it thanks to you all who gave me the inspiration and instructions!

Show me another color scheme!

Edit: Can I have some Easter type color schemes? That doesn't mean I'll necessarily do Easter, just hoping you can toss me some of those and we'll see. Thanks!

The last kit turned out awesome! The hibiscus flower just tied it together perfectly! And I though I was up late last night. . .

Here's some colors from me

This is my first time trying to do a swatch. The card didn't scan well...it was brighter IRL  but maybe a bit Easter-y. (There is a lighter lavender circle in there too if that would work better)

Here's how to post your swatches larger. Hope this helps! If you have any questions just ask.

Click on your swatch in your gallery. Once you're in it right click on it and go down to properties. In that window copy the URL of the image.

Then go into the thread where you want to post it. Make sure you use the "Go Advanced." To insert your image click on the fourth icon from the right. Paste the URL of your swatch there.

That should do it!

Well, you can start with a background (any color) with that sand as your texture! Wow would that have depth! I don't know that we need an actual Orange BG, but would love to see one of the blues with the orange as flourish/swirls as a pattern on it!

Don't know about elements until I see the beginning backgrounds.

debilou
02-26-2009, 02:54 PM
Oh, I like to see the Blue background, but grunge-y... I think it could work for so many things involving nature shots.. .- the beach, photos with lots of sky...

or people shots where you want to blend in the sky ... Blue would be the first background but with lots texture and a bit of grunge...

The - 3rd from the top blue...Or maybe the top one... depending on how grunged it got...

bludlfn003

Could you use two of the colors (You get to pick which 2, but I was thinking of the blue ones) and have sea shells as one of the colors and kind of grunge it up? Kind of a cross between the red paper and the brown paper of Tropicality!

stitchmich
02-26-2009, 03:42 PM

stitchmich
02-26-2009, 03:57 PM
Maybe the dark blue background with little flecks of the oranges and light blues?
One of the blues with a dirty and wrinkled texture.

handkl
02-26-2009, 04:18 PM
I would love to see the blue and orange mixed together on a page, but all grungy and messy with spots that two colours come through a little stronger. As for texture, I am up for anything.

Brushed blue background - either horizontal or vertical brush strokes.

With the oranges - a fairly simple background with the darker orange using the lighter orange around the edge to mess it up a bit.

just-pjz

Love this color choice. Great suggestion.

What about a bg paper that has like water color bleeds--ya know what i mean. It would probably work best with the blues, but I'd love to see it with the oranges.

And I agree with Lisa...would love to see a sandy texture on one of them.

I know we're suggesting papers now, but if this leans beachy, we definitely need a rope--the anchorish kind that shows in the picture---for the "ribbon", knotted maybe.

pinky7
02-26-2009, 05:17 PM

Wow, is that ever yummy!

OK, the orange needs to have it's own BG now! Something swirly, and then some orange swirly elements too (or instead of on the paper, make an orange swirly overlay).

Then you will of course have to have a neutral BG, which in this color scheme would be the greyish blue. That one cries for some grunge along the edges.

Trying not to go strictly beach with this so some flowers in both the blues and oranges. I think I saw a rope suggestion, that would be good unless it's too nautical.

I know it's not time for elements yet, but I won't get to the computer much for the next day or so and I am LOVING this kit already! So my thoughts for some elements...

A file folder tab... not the whole folder, just the tab part so you can tuck it behind a photo.

maybe a staple to hold it down... the big heavy wide kind like a box would be stapled with.

And pretty please ... a stamped cluster, if that's what it's called... the circles and swirls clustered together like on the tag in the Tropicality kit and on your freestyle frames, only without the frame, just the cluster. Z, you rock at these!

Maybe a freestyle frame would be good in this kit too.

Okay, I'll shut up now.

How about a frame the is a rectangle, but then at the bottom a little longer.. and like tiny dotted lines across the bottom like a stamp has - perforated (does that make sense)... just one side like that. ( the very bottom) .. and that edge should have a stamp edge like wavy lines. just a different type of frame... something unique...

The papers look gorgeous, Z!! Real fast, because I am going to the girls water polo CIF finals, someone mentioned, I think, an anchor. That would be cool if you had a rope tied in a knot and had the anchor attached to the ends of the rope, like a charm! And then I had one other idea. Pinky here's a sand dollar in a kit:

Down by the Sea (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_18&products_id=5961) by Tina Chambers.

I like the white lettering on the flair too! So, first (maroon) flair but with white letters? Would that work? Maybe the Z could be big enough to be the bottom Z *and* the Z in DeZign too, as in one Z for both - dunno though; havent' had a play with it. I'm trying to sneak all my time in to making the kit bits, lol! I appreciate you making the flair!

OH! I like the one above, too - but yeah, maybe the smaller font could be a non-outline one as Christy suggested, that is a cute deZign!

Elisabeth

Could you put some of that red into a swirly twirly background?

Also, you do such beautiful jewels, I know you could make some colorful "glass" that's been eroded by the sand.

What about a vertical frame - couple suggestions for the design:
1. Drift wood look
2. Swirls stamp similar to the overlay
3. Glass look similar to the glass rocks.
OR a collection of overlapping white frames staples together with rusty looking staples or brads.

Other element suggestions:
1. Single piece of drift wood
2. Rusty looking staples or brads
3. Something blue...not quite sure what to suggest though...

Lets do the white multi frame held together with rusty staples.

I'm sure I'll be sore sometime. Anyway, so I'll be home after midnight and probably reaching for analgesics.

Did someone say birthday party? Well this IS DSP, after all, and so I wouldn't rule it out were I you, but my lips are sealed of course! Why, do you all want to help me make a birthday page kit? That might be fun.

Here it is Z. "just-pjz" was suggesting a rope for the anchor.
Hmm I like that idea. But, I also like the anchor as is too. Do Anchors sometimes have a chain and an anchor linked by a rope??? I'll have to go ask my DH. The anchor looks great!

OK so I asked my husband if there is such a thing as a chain attatched to an anchor by a rope. (He was an officer in the Coast Guard - so he would know :D )
And he said yes. But they are usually small anchors. And they are used by small fishing boats.

Fishing makes me think of a net. Hmmm. Could you make a net? Or is there enough elements. I haven't counted. A net could be used as a mat for photos or papers. But then perhaps it wouldn't fit the theme.

Anyway you could attach the anchor to the chain using a rope that is knotted - which someone suggested above. I don't know who that was.

I did like the idea of a chain. But I also liked the idea of a rope. This would combine the two!

Looking good Z! I like the idea someone had of a rusty type tag or journaling strips. we could attach them with rusty staples. You could still make a loopy type rope for a border. And I guess a Porthole frame would take it "overboard" ......:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I like your idea of the porthole frame doda... it would match the collection...

Or the driftwood frame mentioned above...

But, aren't all the elements getting to be all to "HEAVY"... It just seems to me.. we need something lighter (not in color but in weight..) to use to offset the weight of the anchor, the beads, the chain...

That's why I suggested the rusted journal tag.. that would not be a heavy weight object.

And, way earlier in this I suggested a frame that was a rectangle but with a postage edge bottom...

like 3 even sides..

But on the bottom make it a little longer...

Then make a wavy postage edge bottom... but right above it place a tiny dotted line..

and, the corner of the frame, could be curled up going along with the rustic look. and the frame could be weathered like the elements...

How about a wrinkled wet newspaper frame or journaling mat. Something that washed up on shore with some tiny sea shells and sea weed woven around it.

I love the porthole idea Doda. I think the inspiration picture would look good in it, like you were looking off a boat and onto a beach and theres an anchor just sitting there.

I also like Diane's idea of a something washed up with seaweed and sea shells woven around it.

This kit is sooooooo gorgeous! That anchor and the driftwood, even the glass all looks so real! What talent!

I still would love to see a frame done with the rusty metal! I keep coming back to that, I know, but I can literally see it in my head and if I had an ounce of talent would try to make my own, but since I don't I need people like you who can draw!

Edited to add:
BTW - it's not a thick metal frame, but a rusty wire twisted and turned to shape the frame.

Wow! Lots of great suggestions and re-suggestions today! And I love how Scrappy Mama "signed off" - several times, lol!

Thanks Carolyn! I called myself going through the thread and writing down all the suggestions with folks' names next to them, but this thread is so much longer than the last one - I love the participation everyone!

Yes, I have lots to choose from now and I started a rope to go behind the anchor chain last night but it looked better without it - and so now I might can do something else with that. Good point about needing lighter elements now to offset the heavy anchor. So I'll be working with a frame and something for journaling and some staples and we'll get this pup done soon!

Oh - since you mentioned portholes, I thought of this kit - which is my best seller ever, so some of you already have it I'm sure, and it would coordinate with the one we're working on now: Aquarium/Oceanarium and extras (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=aquarium+elizabeth) - and you can also see there the word art that Tina and I made together. A fun set; I've used it lots of times.

Oright, I'm on my second cup of coffee, I'll stop chattering and start drawing!

Thanks. I took the pic at sunset. There were all these anchors just sitting on the beach and it was the most photographic one.

I have seen lots of starfishes in kits, but I haven't seen a sand dollar!

First credit I found for the anchor suggestion was pinky7 - but she notes that it was already mentioned, so I shall have to go over the thread again so I know who to credit for the suggestion. Thanks, I like it! And we're shaping this kit up to be a perfect one for the photo in the color scheme - I shall be really embarrassed if bludfn003 scraps the picture with some other kit! lol...

http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/4825/screenshot112.jpg

It was me! I knew someone had mentioned an anchor! But bludlfn003 was talking about the place she took the photo! Scrappy Mama found just-pjz who was asking for an anchorish rope, but I was the first one who said they wanted an anchor. It doesn't matter but I wanted to let you know!! (So you don't have to look!)

BTW, the anchor looks great! Just like I saw on Spongebob!!

Oh lordy!! I love that frame. I love that it's both freestyle-ish and rusty! FAB-u-lous!
I love the idea of a fishing net element or overlay. How about a rusty fish hook. This might not work but I was thinking about a old rough torn curled paper edge. I don't know if that could be a separate element. If not maybe as a journaling paper.

Elisabeth
03-03-2009, 04:38 PM
Oooh, a rusty fish hook would be great but it makes my feet hurt just thinking about it! I stepped on a nail when I was a kid and a toothpick just last year and I cringe to think about stepping on a rusty fish hook!!!! eeek!

As to packing - I'll have you all know I went through several small boxes and bags today and filled up a kitchen sized trash bag, and now I have a neat file box with my stamps and ephemera I haven't sorted! I collect vintage Florida attraction brochures, any gator or croc attraction brochures, alligator/crocodile postcards, and stamps from all over the world. So I had quite a pile I had just stuck in a shoebox and now when I feel like it I can sort them and put them in my keepsake notebooks. (which are already full, so I'll prolly need to start a new one).

I also cleaned out my "carry on" luggage bag - in which I found several souvenirs I had forgotten about. And duplicates of too many things to be carrying about in it and put those away. So I feel like I accomplished something, even if it's not a huge task! I'll be doing stuff like this all month.

Yeah, working sitting on my duff, throwing away stuff out of bags and boxes....I need to scrap some of my great postcards to show you all! I'm just thrillied to know where they all are now.

My back is a little sore, but as long as I sit here at the computer it doesn't hurt, lol........

Okay - I did the knotted rope as suggested by just-pjz, but combined it with the "strips" suggested by debilou - only I made them flags to go with the subtle nautical theme. And her rusty staples are there - a separate element so you can use them for anything. I'm trying not to get TOO beachy or boaty, so's to keep it pretty versatile, as it seems you all have different plans for scrapping with it. And I want to keep everyone happy!

Now - what for the last element? I'd love to do a bottle, BUT Lauren has so many wonderful ones in her Time in a Bottle page kit and extras, that I think it would be redundant. So - we still need a journaling element for this, right? I have a vague idea how to combine a couple more of the suggestions, so lemme see if I can pull it off, if not I'll be back to look through the thread again.
