Week 1 – March 2 to March 8 - Lucky Dip

This is NOT a bonus challenge week – in other words I’m not nominating a kit for you to use so you can use any DSP products.

This weeks random theme is: ** Math Equation: 1 + 2 + 3 = 6**

What this means is that we will create a layout using:

1 frame
2 backgrounds
3 journal tags (all different, not multiples of the same tag)
6 brads (all different, not multiples of the same brad)

ONLY these items can be used but you can blend and re-colour all/any of the items.

So NO cutting or cropping of any of the equation items, please use them as is or with re-colour or blend modes and you can blend the BG's together if you want as long as it's clear that 2 BG's have been used.

You can use ANY DSP kit/elements, freebies or from your current stash (must only be DSP products)

Upload your LO to Erica’s Lucky Dips Gallery or if it’s doing extra duty somewhere else I will need a link to your LO in this forum.

If anything is not clear please just ask any questions here :)

I'm looking forward to seeing your layouts for this weeks challenge and I hope you enjoy playing along.

Some really simple rules

Please use only DSP products
NO - Ploppers and QC’s for this weeks challenge
Journaling or themed title would be nice but you don’t have to
Your LO can be ANY style, even a none traditional style, a style all your own, in fact, let your hair down and go creatively wild!
You can have any number of photos or none at all but only one frame

Your LO can do double/triple duty as long as you put a link in this forum, especially if you intend to do all four challenges. How will I know to include you in the draw otherwise
Please comment generously on other member’s layouts in this challenge. I know I don’t really need to ask you that because you’re all so good at it anyway.

Have fun with this challenge...

Ooooooh. . . this will be a challenge!

Of course I have questions lol

by journal tags, do you mean anything that was reasonably meant to be journaled on? Or more specifically something shaped like a tag?

Sounds like FUN Erica! As long as we use the required items, can we duplicate to use more or not? For example, if I have 6 different brads I'm using, can I use 2 of each?! Lol! Just had an idea that needs more than 6!

Does the frame have to be a single frame, or can it be a row of 3 (like the frame in Wonderful Dreamer from this months Club Digital!)

To answer your questions:
Debra - yes, something that was reasonably meant to be journaled on, doesn't have to be a tag shape but not something you cut or crop from say a BG.

Pam - As this is an 'equation' challenge, if we were to double up on the brads it won't be the correct sum total - sorry that has to be a no

Lisa - same as the answer for Pam's question so another no :)

Duh! Smack myself in the head moment! I will read the challenge properly next time and see the SUMS part! lol!! Ok so 6 brads is good, I still have an idea! ;)

I have a question. Can we use brushes and shapes to make elements such as brackets or say a flower out of the 2 papers?

Erica

You can use the original shape of say one of the journal tags you select and fill it with paper but you can't cut your own shape from the paper. Remember ONLY the number of equation items can be used. No additional elements or BG's.

Erica...color me dumb :o...but I am so confused on this challenge. When you say we can cut a mat from one of the papers can we then use that paper as a background paper or is the mat now that element. Also I guess we can not duplicate a brad a few times to make another new element as that is more than the equation. This LO can only have 2 papers or a paper and a mat and the 10 elements (1 frame, 3 journal tags and 6 brads). Is this correct. I don't know why I am so confused.

:confused::confused: YES :confused::confused: I can see why you would be :o

It's the example in the instructions that is the rebel ie - cutting a mat from the BG etc. I should have deleted this, so ONLY the items in the equation can be used.

I'll re-do the instructions so hopefully all will be clear - so sorry Katie and anyone else for the confusion. :(:o And I won't be strict on the LO's for this week as a lot of you have probably had the same problems deciphering my words and if any have already been done I'll let them slide :)

LOL...thanks Erica. I did already make my LO so I will post what I have.

I'm sorry everyone but the instructions for this weeks Lucky Dips challenge hasn't been very clear... please note the changed instructions and disregard all previous ones.

ONLY these items can be used but you can blend and re-colour all/any of the items.

So NO cutting or cropping of any of the equation items, please use them as is or with re-colour or blend modes and you can blend the BG's together if you want as long as it's clear that 2 BG's have been used.

I hope this is more understandable :) but ask if it's not.

And if you've already done your LO that's OK - no re-do necessary.

OK - here is my LO. I don't why I made this more difficult than it was. My mind gets stuck sometimes on one point and I just can not see past that point.

I've done mine, but I clipped one of the background papers to the frame for my use of both items, shall I redo that bit before posting?

Erica

Not if you've already done your LO Pam, just post as is :)

I must admit this was harder than what I first thought it would be. Just trying to find 6 different brads - took me awhile!! But this is what I finally came up with:

I loved this challenge! I wanted to use Christine's kits so I can do double duty.

Question: I did add the frame and string of beads at the horizon. Are those OK?

OK, this was tough! I've thought about it all week! The hard part was that I really wanted to put a scallop on the edge with the second paper, but when you said we could not cut it...... and then 6 different brads! Wow, now that I am finally done I can check out the gallery and see what others did!
