Just curious if anyone has used them yet for canvas printing and if you liked the end product.

Looking to do some early Christmas present buying :D

Good question, Mandy!

I have a new photo of Chloe that I am dying to get on a canvas. I may just bite the bullet and go for it.

But, I too, would love to see photos of canvases if anyone has had them done!

I know Lauren has had a bunch done from them and was really happy with them .. perhaps send her a PM and ask for her input :) ... it's on my 'to do someday' list!

I'm so glad you asked this! I'm thinking of doing canvases too, and their prices are so much better than anyplace else!

I'm also working on a project that I will likely try Artscow canvas for. Just a note, a lot of the other printed on canvas art comes already wrapped on the frame. Artscow does not (I emailed them for clarification). It is not a large expense of effort, but it is something that you will have to do.

I'm so curious to see if anyone has done this yet!

I didn't know that!

Does it come with a frame and you just have to do it yourself, or you have to get your own?

You are on your own. You can go to Michael's or similar stores and buy frames that you assemble yourself. The one advantage is that you are not stuck with offered sizes, and potentially have more control over the finished product. You can size your photo (or whatever you want on canvas) appropriately so you won't worry about what gets wrapped around the frame.

Thanks so much for telling us that!

Has anyone found good prices for canvas elsewhere?

Costco recently started offering two sizes of canvas (they come wrapped on a frame):

16x20 - $59.99/Costco v. $36.99/Artscow v. $51.99/Winkflash
20x24 - $69.99/Costco v. $56.99/Artscow v. $74.99/Winkflash

Winkflash offers stretched gallery wrap or unstretched canvases at varying prices. Both Artscow and Winkflash offer many size options, Costco at the moment only offers the two sizes above which is why I used them for price comparisons.

Wow, Costco is cheap compared to Sam's Club! They charge $72.99 for a 16 x 20! I sooooo wish there was a Costco here!

The Costco ones are FAAAAAANTASTIC . . . .had the engagement picture I had taken done up and then put in a shadow box frame. Unbelievable. They also offer the canvas wrap that I would call more of a gallery wrap that wraps some of the picture around a deeper canvas. You can't beat their quality.

I got mine from Winkflash, which is cheaper than the other photo sites by far. Its really gorgeous too. It's stretched, but DH wanted it framed, so he made one.

I paid $84.99 for 24 x 36.

I was wondering if theirs came on the frame or not, still a pretty good price tho, I think I will go with them when I am ready to get mine done. Dh is an upholsterer so he should be able to whip up a frame fairly easily.

Hmmmm - call me lazy but I don't want to mess with stretching it myself  Off to go check out WinkFlash and Snapfish.

how do you stretch it yourself? Confused...

Its here! I just got my 12x12 faithbook page printed for hanging in the church tape ministry (my Psalm 23 layout). It's awesome! And Lauren's kit looks fantastic all printed out! I love it! I'm tempted to print many more canvases...but money won't allow that! I'm eagerly anticipating the arrival of our wedding canvas page to hang on our wall in the family room. The canvases lose their effect in glass frames, so I suggest getting it put in a frame without glass if you can. But they are fantastic. Totally worth it in my opinion! Hurry and do it while it's on sale!!!! Only until the end of this month!

Jennifer, first, congrats on getting it! I can tell you are soooo excited!

What can you tell us about how the canvas came, and what you will have to do to it no? Put it on a wood frame? In a frame? Easy to do?

JenniferG
03-23-2009, 12:32 PM
Well I put it in a temporary frame. All that came is the canvas, in one of those roll poster shipping things. I'm going to have Michaels or Joann Fabrics frame it for me. I'm sure I could do it myself, though. I just want a more fancy frame. The canvas has straight edges like paper, but it's a canvas. Not the type of canvas that you'd use to paint on, though, which was what I originally thought it would be. I wish I would have taken a picture, but I forgot. Never fear though, my wedding one will be here soon and I'll be sure to snap some photos of those for you!

I just found this thread. I've had 3 pages printed on canvas (with a 4th on the way). I got all of mine from American Photo Canvas http://americanphotocanvas.com/
Prices for a 12 x 12 Gallery wrapped stretched canvas are:
3/4" thick $37.24
1 1/2" thick $47.44
plus shipping

These are the best prices I have found on the internet.

I've been very happy with the canvases I've received from them of course, I've not ordered from anywhere else so I have nothing to compare it to.

Th first LO's I ordered I tried wrapping the "photo" around the edges, but, even though I tried to compensate for the extra, it wasn't quite right, so I'd suggest if you're doing pages to have a color border instead of photo wrapped. The third one I had done I had a color border and it turned out marvelous I was quite pleased.

Well, I notice that the most recent post is from April, so it appears that artscow now does offer stretched canvases: http://www.artscow.com/photo-gifts/Canvas/Mini-Canvas-4-x-4-Stretched-408

Here's my dilemma: I have a 12 x 12 layout at 2400x2400. I'm trying to set it up as a 4x4 canvas. In order to get the main portion of the layout on the front of the canvas, I am losing quite a bit on the sides. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to "fix" this?

Kathleen

I think the problem would be you need a portion of the LO to be planned for the wrap. Can you adjust the LO so maybe the main portion of the LO is more in the center, and either extend or add background around the edges. Something like:

http://cdn-2-service.phanfare.com/images/external/1466784_1419796_85890348_Web_3/0_0_401c26f23af28a3ce4d97449c7d9d071_1

Is the LO one in your gallery that I could look at to get a better idea of the proportions?

This is the layout (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=329366&ppuser=17857) that I am trying to get printed. I did remove the border.

Here is a work around thats kind of creative and works even on a flattened layout . - first off you need to know what depth the sides are of the canvas - lets just for example say they are an inch deep. - and we need at least an inch to wrap behind as well - so we need to add 2 inches to each side of your layout.
So if your layout is 12x12 then increase the canvas size to 16x16 ( thats 2 inches on one side and 2 inches on the other - 2 on top and 2 at the bottom)
Now make a selection of the bottom two inches of your layout duplicate that - and flip it horizontally and move it down below your layout - so its a mirror of your layout filling the new area - do that for all 4 sides ( doesnt matter where it overlaps cause that will be in the corner that is folded anyway.
This gives a nice edge to your canvas and looks like its part of your layout design when in fact it isnt .

The alternative is just to stick your layout on a 16x16 canvas and use a matching background to fill the empty space and this will be the " wrapped" part

Kathleen

good idea on the mirroring, Lauren!

I think you just need to make some adjustments to the LO so that you account for a certain amount of wrap.

Ooo - useful thread. After my sister's wedding, when I FINALLY get the family photo I've always wanted, I plan to make a special layout especially for a canvas print. Then hang it in my living room. I can't wait!

Just an FYI - I placed an order with ArtsCow (1st time) - not canvas, but regular prints and 8x10's. I haven't received the prints, but did get the 8x10's. It's taking a long time and when I saw the return address I was surprised - they are shipped from Hong Kong. Not sure if anyone realizes this, but if you order from ArtsCow, it takes some time.
