I think I've got it regarding organizing with ACDSEE but it seems eveyone uses an external Hard drive. Then I hear they can crash as well, how does everyone backup the backup?

Glad you are thinking about backup! I have two internal hard drives in my computer (a desktop), one is 160 GB and that is where Windows lives, along with where all my programs are installed. Personally, I don't worry about a backup of this drive, because I have all my installation disks, drivers, etc. and if I get to the point of needing to restore all that, it probably needs to be a fresh install.

My second internal drive is 500GB. This is where I store all my stuff - photos, digital stash, fonts, documents, music, etc. This is also where I periodically backup my ACDSee database to. I then have an external 500GB hard drive that I automatically backup to. I backup the entire drive once a week, and just photos and scrap stuff once a week (so this stuff is actually double backup).

In addition, I have a small portable drive that I use with my laptop. Periodically I dump all my photos and digital scrap stash onto that drive, so that is sort of a backup of my backup.

Hope that helps!

This has nothing to do with the post.. .I just love seeing Kathleen's slide show...

don't mind me...

Oh, but I do have an EHD... which backups up my entire hard drive... it's a MAC... so it has a program called Time machine.. which keeps all my files in sync..

and, then a smaller EHD... which just backs up my photos, digi scrap files, and documents...

and, then I also move those over to my XP machine... which happens to have Carbonite... an on-line backup service.. which only backs up the files that I mentioned goes on the smaller EHD...

I don't use that XP machine for anything but storage... It's my DH"s... but I had already paid for Carbonite for a year... might as well use it...

Debilou, this is the first I've heard about Carbonite.

Seems like a really good deal. However, when I check their site, they don't really get into details of features, etc.

What is your feedback on it? Are you happy with it? Is it software I install and then every so often it syncs with my carbonite account?

Just seems like only $50/year is "too good to be true" and my grandmother always said, "If something seems too good to be true, it probably is!" ;)

I've been looking for a good backup program/system for quite some time. Right now, I just drag and drop once a month.
