Okay, I shoot in RAW and an using CS4. When I go to Open and find a file to open in my folder, it is showing both a CR2 file (RAW) and an ACDSee file I think (XMP). I'm wondering why? That is under "showing all formats". But why is it showing an ACDSee file format anyway. And is there somewhere in ACDSee to shut this down? I've looked but can't find anything.
I just hate seeing double files for whatever reason it is showing them. If anyone else has this occur, I'd sure like to know how to solve it.

I am not sure if I am understanding correctly? is it is PS that you are seeing double files? I have tried opening a RAW in PS but am not seeing double (lol!) - as you say weird.

XMP is the sidecar file format ACDSee Photo Manager 2009 and Pro 2.5 uses to embed metadata for file formats that don't have IPTC fields. If you haven't done any tagging of your photos then you can just delete those extra files.
To keep from having them reappear, use ALT-O to open your options. Find Database on the left and uncheck the box next to 'Display embed database information reminder'. That will stop ACDSee from prompting you to embed your metadata when you close ACDSee. If you want to use the embedding feature for scrapping supplies, select the folders you want to embed then go to Database>Embed Database Information>In Selected Files. This will allow you to use embedding where you want to without it trying to embed everything else. Or you can choose not to use embedding at all.
Turning off the reminder should make all automatic embedding stop so you'll have to remember to do it manually to use it.

Kristi, thanks for the information. I had no clue. I don't do photos in ACDSee as I use Bridge in CS4. Couldn't figure out why I was getting 2 of each image but with different tags. I'll do that.
Meryl, maybe you have the right field "unchecked" or you use ACDSee for your photos whereas I don't.

Kristi, I went back and checked but I didn't see anything like that to uncheck under Options/Database. I have ACDSee 10. I looked thru all and didn't find anything like that to uncheck. Would it be listed as something else?

Hmmm, that is an odd one.
Kristi is right- an xmp is the side car file for embedding database info. But it wasn't available in PM v 10.
