Are you ready for the next Graphically Challenged? :yahoo:
March's graphically challenged was a bit of a tricky one but I think we got some amazing effects from the tutorial! I was really enjoying seeing the results of the photo tweaking in the gallery.
For this months challenge I want you to think about the Elements of design.
These (from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_principles_and_elements)) are the elements of design.
Elements of Design
Line
Line is the mark made by a moving point, such as a pencil or brush. The edges of shapes and forms also create lines. It is the basic component of a shape drawn on paper. Lines and curves are the basic building blocks of two dimensional shapes like a house's plan.
Color
Color is the most expressive element of art and is seen by the way light reflects off a surface. Color is used to create illusion of depth, as red colors seem to come forward while blue seems to recede into the distance. Color, and particularly contrasting color (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_theory), is also used to draw the attention to a particular part of the image. On some cases of interior design, color can be added to increase visual appeal such as the natural colors of wood of a china cabinet. Color may add visual appeal to a home decor just as colored flowers can add beauty to a field on a prairie.
Shape
Shape is an area enclosed by lines or curves. It can be geometric or organic. Importantly, a shape automatically creates a negative space (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_space) around it. Shapes in house decor and interior design can be used to add interest, style, theme to a design like a door. Shape in interior design depends on the function of the object like a kitchen cabinet door. Natural shapes forming patterns on wood or stone may help increase visual appeal in interior design.
Texture
Texture is the feeling and visual feel of the fabrics, colors, and room accessories. There are two types of texture; Tactile, or visual texture, and texture which you can detect with your five senses. Texture like grass sheets on a wall, or white pebbles embedded in a concrete wall gives a three dimensional look to the wall and a few of shades of its colors. Texture is the roughness of the surface of a material. Surfaces with same or similar textures like fireplace marble tiles and drywall usually look more visually appealing. The quality of finishes of surfaces in home interior design and even on automobiles are important. A smooth and polished surface on a marble tile is also a texture, and smooth quality finishes can enhance the visual appeal of natural material finishes like marble tiles on a wall. Smooth mirror reflective finish on a marble bathroom countertop enhances its looks.
Value
Value is how light or darkened the color you are using. Value is also referred to as tone.
For this months graphically challenged I want you to create a graphic style layout using NO elements. You can use papers, journaling, brushes and word art, but you must keep them simple, and keep in mind the Elements of Design in their use.
The idea of this months challenge is to apply the KISS method and use the above elements of design to draw the eye to the subject of your layout.
The Rules
You must use a DSP product (or lots and lots of products) in your layout. This can be store purchased, freebies, etc.
You must have your layout in the Graphically Challenged with Robyn (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../gallery/showgallery.php?cat=6698) gallery by midnight on the 30th of April in order to be eligible for the drawing.
You must link back in this thread, so that I can grab a random winner from this thread.
What can you win?
One person will be randomly chosen at the end of the month and will receive a $3.99 store coupon!
Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with! Lets get blending!! You can get your Graphically Challenged Flair Here (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36564)!

Ok, Robyn...Here's mine!
I altered the photo by taking out the background with the magic eraser. Then added the watercolor feature to give lots of texture. I place the enhanced photo on a complimentary background to give it pop, and to allow the line of the image that I used to really show.
How'd I do?

I hope it's ok if I post this here. I'm fairly new to digital scrapbooking and brand new to doing it graphically. This is my first attempt - a scraplift from the tutorial. I am going to try the blending tutorial and then I'll give it a go with this challenge. Good it's still early in the month! I've looked at the work in this link and you guys are amazing. I hope I can learn to scrap like you do!

Here is my layout using the KISS method - this style of scrapping appeals to me as I often have trouble placing elements on a layout that is blended.
I have taken 4 different photos and blended them using different filters to create one scene

I have made 2 LOs almost identical and am struggling with which I prefer. I have put my current favourite in the gallery (but may change my mind!). I went with the overlay in the end because I thought it looked better and I guessed anybody who could advise me was probably asleep! I hope its not too simple.
I did a frontspiece (endpaper) for Jack's album and thought this could be used as one for Thea's - of course this means I will have to do some printing one day!
I think I may have to go back and fiddle with them again to see which I prefer but while I am any CC would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much everyone for participating in the April graphically challenged! Sorry I am a little late this month getting the next one started, I have been busily preparing for the Gold Coast Laptop Crop and trying to meet deadlines.
I will be back soon with the random winner! ;-)
