Alone that is, with oodles of ADVANTIX film canisters with developed negatives locked inside!! Does anyone remember this type of film from the mid-80's to the 90's? You just put this film canister in the camera - a specific Advantix camera, and you could get different sized prints - panoramic, regular - etc. Then the film would be re-wound back into a metal canister (which is what you plopped into your camera to begin with) and given back to you with your prints. I have about 500 of these canisters packed away and would like to know HOW do I go about scanning any of them???:yikes::(

You could by a scanner that would take care of these negatives...

But with this amount of negatives it would be your life's work for a long time.

I would HIGHLY recommend that you look into a reputable scanner shop in your area... that you scan these for you...

But, I wouldn't turn over all of them at one time - who would ever want to lose all of their photos...

And, make sure they do the scans in their shop or locally (some send their's to 3rd world countries

Make sure the photos will be placed on Archival DVD's

300 DPI

.jpg files

And, I would get a duplicate made of each DVD... one for you to work with.

And, one for you to store somewhere outside your home - a safe deposit box - Mom's house - anywhere but your home - for Just in case.

And, get a time frame... how long will it take... how much per photo ( or per DVD), etc. How many photos will fit on one DVD...

Very good suggestions....now if I can sort through the canisters and the contact sheet that came with them maybe I can get some kind of idea how many really need scanning. I was really hoping someone would know of an attachment for my scanner or some way to do this at home....anyone????

You are not alone, Karma! I went for Advantix in a big way. I had a P&s and a Canon EOS IX Lite with a couple of lenses. It may be a toss up who has more non-digital Advantix film.....

Whew! I was beginning to think I was the only one. Betsy, what have you done with all your negatives in the canisters?

You might try Kodak itself. I know in the 90's they offered and option of digital prints from the advantix film. Now back then the quality wasn't so hot in terms of DPI but they should be offering something better at this point. I was working in a one hour lab when that film was popular. We always had to send it up to the Kodak lab in Rockville for processing. That was the main reason I never tried it. 35mm I coule process and print myself.

Well, I have the prints, but I would like them digitally as well. However, I really don't want to invest my entire savings in the project. I don't think there are many scanners out there that you can buy that have an APS adapter, either... I really don't know what I'll do, just scan individual prints as I need them, I guess.

Betsy, I don't know if you ever found a home scanner that would take APS film, but if you can go to Sam's Club or Costco they can scan the film for you. My Sam's charges about 18.5 cents per neg with a minimum charge of $1.89. (Same price for 35mm film, too). They can burn one roll of APS per CD. I would guess some independent stores still can do it, also. However, it might cost more.

Sam's club is also doing a "Summer Membership" for $15 so if you are not a member you could try it out for a reasonable price.
