describe yourself by spelling out your name; think of words beginning with each of the letters in your name that tell a story about you or describe you.

totally! yes, ask them the question! then have them write about it - either start a word document or find them a notebook!
and yes!! totally make it your own - i love the abby font - it's so cute! but if you have your own font (or your KIDS' FONT!!), that would be even cooler and more personal!!! don't you think!!!
these can be for THEM, OOOOORRRRRRR (AAAAAANNNNND), you can do one yourself!! i'm going to!!! you can blog it daily if you want!

you crack me up - are we exactly the same person?!!!
i am going to have my kids write about what they did that day... AND/OR one of the prompts. i tend to get over-enthusiastic, so i am LIMITING it to NO MORE than 15 minutes daily - that way we don't burn out... :) so, the prompts are more ideas if they're kind of stuck. if they're off and running with their own storytelling and don't need prompting, that rocks!
and with my sam, who's not fluidly writing yet (and charlie), i'll have him tell me about one of the prompts or whatever, and i will write it out (as verbatim as i can). and if they're REALLY young, you can do it for them... pick one thing they tell you each day, record it, and journal about what it brings up for you!

I called my dgs to ask him some of these questions and a few I thought of. He just had his 5th birthday so his attention span wasn't overly long but he seemed to enjoy the chat and said he would answer more questions next time. :)
This was my fav...
Grandma: what is one place you want to go this summer?
David: to your place

p.s. molly just asked me why i made the goals for them. she says she wants to change hers. she further stated that she doesn't want to clean. apparently nobody else does... i told her she could go live with nobody else, but that as long as she lived with the walkers, she would clean. mean mommy. ;)

me: what happened today that made you laugh out loud?
David: when Hannah burps
Me: does she burp a lot? (Hannah is 2)
David: (giggling)... yes she is good at burping.
me: what makes you smile?
David: cars... because I like them
me: What did you do today?
David: There was a cat in the house then it ran out. it wasn't our cat... it ran away.
me: what did you do with Hannah?
David: pushing Hannah in her car. Hannah's bike has a trailer and I like it so much. Hannah likes it too. I have a new bike. It's getting a little rusty because its raining on it and I didnt put it inside. Hannah likes her little van too and bossing me around all the time.
me: How does Hannah boss you around?
David: when im playing a game she's saying im playing baseball when im playing wii and her not sharing her tiny van.
me: What is something that really bugs you?
David: Jenna always says nanaabooboo and that makes me cry. makes me mad. and dad tells Jenna to stop but sometimes my dad bugs me too. he like pretends he's a monster. but I talked to him a little bit and then he won't and he will just say hello hello hello... that bugs me too.
me: what do you like about yourself?
David: I like my hair it's a little long. my colour is blonde
me: What is your favourite food?
David: Broccoli and mashed potatoes and carrots make me see better.
me: What is your favourite room in your home?
David: My sister's room but it's my room but she sleeps in there. The computer is in there. I like to play on the computer. I'm good at it and I always win. I have some race games on the computer
me: What is something you do well?
David: I'm good at digging. with my diggers. I saw some big diggers and construction workers
me: What would you do if you found a magic wand?
David: swish it around and make some magic
me: What kind of magic?
David: like cake magic or a birthday magic like a wish magic. I had a pirate birthday. I made a wish but I don't know what kind of wish I made but I looked at the cake. and everyone thought it was delicious too. but it had eggs in the cake and Madelyn is lergic.
me: What would happen if you grew taller than a tree?
David: Then I could be a tree master. I was in a store and there was a guy bigger than a little tree.
me: What could you do if you were that big?
David: I could dig really fast. I could find some gold.
me: What kind of animal would you like to be?
David: I want to be a lion. I would roar
David: grandma are you finished asking me questions?
me: yes may I ask you some more another time?
David: ok. Hannah wants to talk to you.
Hannah: gramma gramma! hannah talk.
me: who's the boss hannah?
Hannah: I am. David's not the boss. I love you. phone up.
That's how Hannah always ends a phone call. without warning. she says "phone up" and hangs up on me. lololol

OMG - these are so dang cute Mars!:rofl::rofl: about how Hannah talks on the phone! With Megan you have 1 maybe 2 questions that you have to be ready to ask when you get on the phone with her or else she's outta there quick as lightening.

OH, GUYS!!! i was thinking on the way home from dropping kids off at vacation bible school about what we could do this afternoon. it is a great, stormy, dark day, so i was thinking about basement stuff. maggie's class did "readers' theatre" in school and she has LOVED it - they got really into it and wore costumes, brought props, etc. so i did a very quick search and found tons of resources for doing readers' theatre. here are a couple sites i found (there are tons):
http://www.teachingheart.net/readerstheater.htm
http://www.timelessteacherstuff.com/
of course, seriously, my thought was that i could turn all of this into a fabulous scrapbook page. yeah, you know you wanna be me (as emma would say). so, i thought i'd list it here as a tidbit, starter, idea, whatever! go for it!!!

I can't wait until I can do that kinda stuff with my grandbabies. My husband says that I can do anything I want in my studio. so for right now, I"m going to put in a computer station for Ian. Its was Dad's computer. Ian has been playing with it since he could crawl towards it. So, I"m going to load up lots of programs for him and his sister and they can use it when they're here. When they are older, I'm sure that I will have an easel and lots of art stuff, as well as lots of toys. I"m going to try to talk my sweetie into a sturdy play set too, but that may have to wait until I get out of school. (I have expensive tastes....LOL)

Here comes another one! (she opens up the magic box, looks at all of the brightly colored papers...goes oooohhhhhh colors! snaps out of it. reaches in and the paper strip says....)
Just in time for Fathers Day, the pretty blue paper says "Write about some places you went with your Father." For the kiddo's this ought to be good. What we think is important isn't when it comes to a 6 year old.

KISS THIS! I have another one, I have another one!! :D
What is your favorite book or author? Why?
This is such a simple question, but as a child I remember books that set my imagination going on journeys that make me smile today. My love to writing and reading are the result of stories such as "The Secret Garden" and "A Little Princess", Charlotte's Web" and even "Mrs. Pigglewiggle" who taught me that there are consequences to my actions.....

This one might only work for older kids, but how about "What is your first memory?"
I was asking my kids this recently and was amazed at the answer my eldest gave me. She is sure she remembers sitting on a plane, looking out of the window and seeing flashing coloured lights in the dark, they were really pretty. Then being given a drink in a can and it was all fizzy. (although I'm surprised if I let her drink it at that age! lol!)
When she was 2 years and 3 months we took a plane from Romania back to London, at night. Sitting waiting for it to leave there was some sort of problem and fire engines came rushing over the tarmac, lights flashing. We could see them from the window. We were delayed while they sorted out the problem and then a truck complete with armed guards brought boxes of coke onboard and every passenger was given a free one.
Now ok, some of that she will know from having been told the story I expect, but she remembers it being dark, the colours of the lights and the excitement she felt.

I have already explained to all 5 of my children that even if I make a book about THEM it belongs to ME until I die. When I am dead and gone I expect everyone to squabble over who gets my books. I made that statement because, during her senior year, Shannon (child number 2) dismantled my book about her to give one of the teachers 10 photos for a senior project she was working on. I had a COW. Shannon said, "Well, it's MY book." And I said, "No, it is MY book about YOU. All books, regardless of topic, belong to me until I die."

As a journaling prompt I asked the oldest left at home (Andrew 17), "What is something you have always wanted to do?" His answer: "play the guitar." I knew we had an old guitar in the basement (left here years ago by the oldest, Ryan) so I took it to the music store and had strings put on it (told you it was old) and signed him up for lessons. I should get some good photos and pages out of that.
