So has anyone had any problems with reservations ??? Last night I called 4 times and neither the hotel or reservation center had any clue about the group rate...just got done talking to Tony at the hotel and he said the rate has not been put in the system yet and the person handling groups is off until Monday....said couldn't make reservation at that rate till then or more likely tuesaday....
So is it just me or has anyone else been able to get the group rate ???

Have what may be considered a rude question....
I've already got my registration taken care of but was a little (remember i went all the way to des moines so obviously cost goes out the window if it's a dsp crop ) surprised to find the reistration fee had gone up to $50.00 and it was 3 hours shorter (also crops are never long enough would like them to be 12 hours minimum and 24 hours would be so cool..lol )...so how to put this delicately without hurting any one's feelings....no delicate way i guess....how come the registration fee is much higher this year ???
Please don't be mad at me for asking this and Shawn always calls me cheap..lolololol...
Lauren
06-15-2009, 02:26 PM
Basically so we cover our costs! Sadly we can't subsidize the cost any longer as we have done in the past.

Thanks Lauren, kinda firguered this was the case...by the time everyone was fed last year at Adobe you probably barely broke even.....
And Margie, thanks for the hotel update...wanted to get a jump on handicapped rooms since Shawn is still going.....okay, he's coming down with me and may eat lunch with me/us but won't be coming to the crop itself.....
I think I'm done pestering(until the next silly question comes along):lol::lol::lol:

I have to do some figuring. Maybe I ought to get those taxes in and see what my refund will be.
Flights - $250
Room for 3 nights if I don't get a roommate - $255
Crop Fee - $50
$555
+Spending Money ( I will probably end up buying a Bamboo)
I am off to see if I can scare up a travel partner and/or roommate.
Anyone know what it would cost to rent a pack-mule to cart my laptop around a couple of airports?

Fyi, when you call the hotel, use DSP as the booking code or mention Digital Scrapbook Place for the discounted rate.
Or you can reserve online now with this link! It has the code built in and you just need to enter the dates and room type.
(Click, don't copy as paste since the forum will shorten it)

Okay, hubby says we can go...whohoo! I've never been before to any crops so I am really excited. I need a handicap room though, is that possible with the group rate? Single bed is fine since it is just the two of us. If someone can get back to me as soon as possible so that I can start making all the reservations that would be great! Thanks!

Is there a possibility to get a refund on the registration fee if we end up not being able to make it? I'm still not sure we can come, but I don't want to miss out on getting a spot in time. I'm just thinking if I register first to secure our spots (guess I'll have to register my hubby as well, but I don't think he'll mind at this rate) then if it looks like we can't afford the flight, I'm hoping we can get the registration fee back? If someone could let me know ASAP that would be much appreciated.

PoohBear - At the rate the tickets are going you can probably SCALP them for twice the price :D This is a popular crop and so incredibly amazing.
For those of you getting your hopes up about Adobe - We spend our time in their fabulous conference room, so you might not get to see much more than that. It is way way worth it, though, the conference room is fantastic and the Abobe people are fantastic.
Having said that, we got to meet a few of the adobe developers last time, the ones who actually created the features that we use. They came down and met the crowd. That is probably the first time they were treated like celebraties haha!
And tell your hubbies that they, too, will attain god-like status among the women of DSP if they brave the fray! They instantly look like movies stars, will be recognized at every crop henceforth and will be KNOWN! They, indeed, must come, it is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be famous.

We also went to the garlic festival which was fun.

Okay, so the enticing offer from DH is that we make this our anniversary gift to each other rather than really celebrating it next week as we normally would. What do you think? I am trying to talk him into really making it worth the trip and fly into San Fran. instead and drive down to San Jose for the crop and then drive back up to San Fran for a few days. What do you all think? Or is there enough "romantic" stuff to do before and after the crop that we can just fly into San Jose instead?

well, for one, we scheduled bus tours of the city (including downtown historic areas and the GG Bridge), visited Alcatraz Island, visited Pier 39 (many shops, shows, restaurants and the famous Sea Lions), saw Ghirardelli square and got free chocolates (every day), we ate at numerous neat little restaurants.... visited Chinatown...
I guess for us it was great becuase we love history and trivia and architecture. It's also a great place to just roam around and see neat things.
there are street performers everywhere. Numerous beautiful parks. We saw the Presidio, Crissy Field... There are many shows and such that we didn't get to go see, as well.

At first we stayed a hotel in Fisherman's Wharf, it was nice because it was in walking distance easily to the Pier, et al. but after a few days we moved to a little place on Lombard street which was cheaper, had free breakfast, free wi-fi and free parking, which the pricer hotel did not.
Parking is premium and driving is nuts. WALK around that city. Really. But ti's gorgeous and fun!

06-19-2009, 03:51 PM
We stayed at The Fransicso Bay Inn. Small, but a nice place and not too far from things. We easily walked to the Pier and back every day, and even walked back from Chinatown one night when we missed our tour bus pick-up. It's near many good restaurants as well. It is owned by an Indian family, but they speak good English, they offer pastries in the morning for free and will wash your laundry for $10 a load, folded and everything. Whcih was nice, seeing as we didn't want to waste time in the laundromat.

they can't get in unless they're registered for the crop, and there's no where to eat of course. there are a few cafes down the street though.

what train is everyone talking about? How expensive is it to take the train? At this point I am debating on flying straight into San Fran and renting a car to drive down (or take this train option I guess) or the reverse and fly into San Jose and then after the crop go up that way. If it would be cheaper to take the train up to San Fran and then just walk where we wanted to go like Nafeesa did as long as we get a good hotel then we might do that. Rental cars are so expensive, but since I can't walk and we will also have my service dog with us it might be better to rent the car. Decisions, decisions! I have to hurry though sounds like!

06-20-2009, 01:38 AM
I know nothing about the train - but! If you do have a car while there, please make sure to factor in parking costs. nowhere is free! and parking on the street is at a minimum. This is why we bought tour bus tickets, it was a hop on hop off service around the city, so we did not have to park anywhere. The toursit areas in San Fran are so small and so close together you almost do not need a car. But, if you have one, factor in parking. I know near Fisherman's Wharf parking can be up to $8 to $10 per hour or $25 per day in some areas.
There are also taxi services in the city, which may be cheaper than paying for hourly parking.
The first hotel we stayed at near Fisherman's Wharf parking in their garage was 30$ per night. It was sick. I did not know that ahead of time, and we got hit with a large parking bill. So when seeking hotels, do find free parking if you are going to have a car.
It may make sense to fly ino San Jose, take a train up to San Fran, then fly out of San Fran, if the plane tix work out.

Thanks for the info! I think I found the train info and it looks super cheap especially if I can get the disabled discount, which I'm sure they will take one look at me and say yes! How did you go about getting the tour bus tickets? I think they are wheelchair accessible from what I read from the San Fransisco tourist info page, but need to phone them just to double check.
I'm getting really excited now for both legs of the trip!

The Gray Line is probably your best bet ...the 3.5 hour deluxe tour is $46.00...
there is also a Yosimite 14 hour turn around tour for $137.00....maybe we could somehow arange a DSP Gray Line Tour outing !!! Imagine a bus filled with DSPers
going to Yosimite...:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Woohoo....Dan thinks we can afford it now if we keep it under $600 and since we have enough airline miles now that should mean we can swing it! I am at the doctor's right now and just got diagnosed with bronchitis so this bit of good news perked up my day. Making all the arrangements as soon as I get home

Yes when we were there last year we flew into SFO - and stayed in a hotel and used public transport around the city - ( easy and relatively inexpensive) and then we picked up our rental car on the last day - avoiding the huge parking costs ) - we then went to Yosemite, then to San Jose - and drove back to SFO dropping off the rental car at the airport - easy!!

<nod> San Fran is NOT car friendly. But so worth the trip. I'm really looking forward to San Jose, I've never been there. In fact, there's a lot of places in Californai I haven't been, which is silly since I grew up here and lived here for 20 years of my life.

How easy is it to take luggage on the train? The one I found is called the Caltrain, has anyone heard of it? How far is Yosemite from San Fran? It seems like just a day trip. I really like Lauren's idea of flying in to there first and then going down to San Jose. Dan is worried about taking luggage on the train though so he's thinking maybe we can just do the Caltrain Express for those 2-3 extra days since it only takes an hour or so to get there and sightsee for as long as we can then take the train back to San Jose.
I'd love to do a train full of DSPer's to Yosmite, just not sure we'd have the time. We'll see. First thing is first though, off to register so we don't miss out on that part!

Okay, just checked and Yosemite National Park is 3.5 hours away from San Francisco! Unless it is somehow on the way to San Jose then I doubt we'll be able to do that part. Oh well, maybe next year!

YAY! Dan and I are now registered. I think me mentioning that he would be considered a "God" and celebrity among all the women there helped the cause! Although he thought he already was after his page he did for Grandma's scrapbook! I thought I had uploaded it already, but I hadn't. As soon as he can get the network fixed I'll be able to get to all my pages and will upload it for everyone to see. Or you can go to shutterfly.com and look up my book that I did there (well that we all did!)

Ugh...Lauren, Margie or whoever, I need help. I guess I wasn't as lucky as Brenda as I wasn't able to get a handicap accessible room at the same rate of $85/night. They said that the block was all full that they'd reserved for DSP. Julie (gal I talked to) said I could call back in the morning and talk to the sales people that will be there during the day to see if they will allow the one room I have on hold available for the DSP rate. There were only two accessible rooms left so I am taking my chances and keeping one on hold just in case. I definitely won't be able to afford it though at the rate they quoted me and thus not be able to come if they can't reduce the rate.
nafeesa
06-22-2009, 01:37 AM
oh poohbear! Have you tried looking online for other hotels in San Jose? Some may have handicapped rooms available at decent rates. on expedia I found some hotels as low as $64 a night, but I can't seem to figure out if they include handicapped rooms. On travelocity.com I found some as low as $39 a night, and they are wheelchair accesible and allow pets, so they may be able to have handicapped rooms also.
I would definitely look around and see what might be close to adobe.

I got my room booked!! I am so jazzed, I found a place for $39 a night, so I get to stay a few extra nights and see some sights.
I'll be going to the Winchester Mystery House (in San Jose) on Friday before the photo walk, and the California Academy of Sciences on Sunday if anyone wants to go along. There should be great photo ops at both places. Just send a pm if you're interested.
Also, does anyone know if Adobe charges for parking the day of the crop? I'll be further away than some and can't just walk to the crop.
Or, would someone with parking at the close hotel be willing to come get me so I don't have to find parking if it is not free?

I'm going up to the California Acvademy of Science for a day, so I figured I'd just drive in to the city rather than pay that much for a hotel room.

That's one option that we've considered too since SF isn't that far driving. We thought we could just take day trips into the city on the Caltrain. I just found a Marriott property in the San Jose area that hopefully isn't too far from the crop. If so, I'm hoping to be able to use some of my Marriott points to save money and then we'd just stay there for the whole 5 days and go into the city every day that we wanted to.

If the block is completely sold out, a second choice that is about a block up the street is the St. Claire. Check their internet rate for Friday and Saturday--it does go up if you're staying on a week night. And I don't know about ADA with the internet specials--If I were looking stay there and needed the ADA room, I'd book the internet special and then call and request. If they couldn't accommodate at that rate, the room could be cancelled.
One thing I've learned in my traveling is to book the hotel and car first to get rates, even if you you're not positive about going. Those can usually be cancelled at no charge.
I hope everyone finds a room they like! We'll all be liking the room at Adobe!

We'll probably be staying the rest of our stay at the Marriott location in Cupertino since I think I can get us free nights there. Well after staying up till 3 a.m. trying to get everything all in order, we are set! We fly into SF on the 6th at 7:30 a.m. and will drive down to Cupertino later that afternoon after doing some sightseeing and stay there for the night thanks to Marriott rewards! Then we'll jump over to the Crowne Plaza until Sunday and then back to Cupertino until Monday when we'll fly back home. It took a bit of effort getting the plane tickets, but looks like we are all set!
I did go ahead and book Dan for the crop, but now I am wondering if I really should have since we will now have a rental car and he may want to go off and do his own thing on Saturday. He says he doesn't mind going, but I just don't want him to get bored especially with us being so close to a lot of other "tech" stuff that I'm sure he'll want to do. Is it possible that if he comes in the morning that if he wants to skip out at lunch he can? I just don't want him to get bored, but I also don't want to take up a spot for someone else that wants to come. He says he doesn't mind going, but I'm sure after awhile he'll be ready to pull his hair out with everyone probably asking him tech questions and all. Anyone else bringing their spouses to the crop?

He says he doesn't mind going, but I'm sure after awhile he'll be ready to pull his hair out with everyone probably asking him tech questions and all. Anyone else bringing their spouses to the crop?
I'm waiting till the last possibe moment to book Shawn....I feel kinda bad about leaving him alone in the hotel room. I figure he can come hang out till lunch...wheel him back and then get him for dinner...
I'm making it a road trip with my DH & little doggie. We'll have a car and my DH will not be joining in on the crop.

As for the Tshirts, I usually just get a large..usually the large fits with enough wiggle room (and I'm a 36DDD or 38DD  depending on the make and yes, that was probably way TMI )

Better yet, I can have Mac growl at anyone who tries to get in early..lol, j/k he is such a sweetiepie, he'd probably just roll over for a belly rub!
Since there are a couple of us in wheelchairs, have any of you organizing it talked to Adobe to make sure the room is setup for wheelchairs? I.E Brenda's Shawn and myself will need two spots open without chairs in them for us to roll up to. It'd be good if I can get in on an end spot so Mac can be right next to me in case he decides he doesn't want to do an "under" command under the table, which is what I usually have him do.

Just my 2 cents on the EHD organization - I bought a really small Buffalo 320gb EHD for the last crop in Salt Lake City that I went to. It just has my DSP kits and photos on it, and fonts too! So all I had to do was update it with the kits and photos that I've bought/taken since January. Now all I need to find is my scrapping Mojo - it's been missing for about a month and I'm hoping a day with you all will bring it back!!
Oh, and I think meeting in the hotel lobby and walking over together in the morning is a great idea. Breakfast in the morning is a must for me, and as I understand it, lunch and dinner will be provided for us at Adobe. Not to mention all the snacks and chocolate that will be there - I have some York peppermint patties ready for the trip!!

We got home around 11:30pm est Our flight from SJ got detoured a bit to avoid the bad weather so we were a little late getting into Chicago Midway. They held the plane for us as it was the last one out headed to Hartford CT. On that leg we saw lightning under and to the side of the plane. It was eerrrie but a beautiful sight...too bad I didn't have my camera handy. It was fun seeing people we knew and meeting new people. DSP is such a great community.

Well I am finally waking up after getting back home pretty late. Thank you so much to everyone, especially the DSP Team, for making my first crop so enjoyable. Just learning from Lauren how to do clipping masks made the trip worth it! Thank you also for being so nice to Dan and Macintosh. They both had a great time even if Dan was sick (i.e. if you didn't get your hand shook that's why, he really did try to be as social as possible which for him is quite an accomplishment). He had fun though and we can't wait to come to the next one and definitely Adobe next year! Next year though I am going to plan much more time so that we don't feel so rushed to see everything we want to see in SF.
Now to recover (poor Mac probably will sleep for days!) and start uploading and scrapping. I sure admire Rebekah for getting so many layouts done! You are amazing girl and I am glad I met you. Have fun overseas and I hope we meet again.

We really should have an Alaskan crop and I would even be willing to help organize it! Just think of the amazing photo walk you guys would have. Tonight we took a walk near the local park we take Mac to. As we came around the corner we saw a mama moose on the other side of the barbed wire fence...not that unusual to see actually. Then we saw her two calfs come out from the bushes and they kept coming over to us closer and closer. They both came up to Mac both very curious and the second one even did like an E.T nose touch with him! It was sooo amazing! Of course, I didn't have my camera tonight....that always seems to happen! It had to be the highlight of my wildlife experiences up here. Seriously, we need an Alaskan crop with as many DSP members that like to travel up here. I'm already planning for next year! I have a very good friend that actually is getting ready to move there (go figure!) so I'll have a place to stay. Plus, Dan had a nice surprise waiting for him in his email yesterday. The customer service head at Alaska Airlines emailed apologizing for the inconvenience of the bag charge that we had to pay even though we had made our reservations back in June before they came out with the policy that they would now be charging for even the first bag. Our reservation printout even said that our first bag would be free. So for all the trouble that caused, they gave us a ton of airlines miles and also the customer service guy that emailed said he was giving us two $100 vouchers good to use toward our next tickets! Since they are good for a year, I am already planning on using it for my ticket for next year down to Adobe!
