There is only 1 flight a day from Sacramento to San Jose, and it doesn't leave until after 5pm. I could drive the 4 hours instead, I just need to know a target time to arrive!

Doesn't matter at all, Aunt Tina. If my recollections are recollecting correctly, last year the Adobe Crop got advertised in some other public places, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to sign up now before the word spreads too far! ;)
And I keep trying to encourage one of my Granny buddies from Indiana to come, but somehow can't seem to get her on the plane! She's due a new grand baby in July, so I guess we'll let her off the hook this time.

The last Adobe Laptop Crop was my very first crop and I completed my very first digital layout. I learned a lot and had fun, Fun, FUN too!. Before I signed up I was a "lurker" as well. I walked in as a total stranger and left with many new friends. The only regret was that it ended too soon. Do come...you'll love it too!

Cathie I have no idea if this price sounds reasonable or not - I just plugged in london to lax 4th august - returning 11th august - - the price is £300.00 but the taxes are the killer - £229.00 making it 529 .

Holding thumbs for that cheap air fare, Cathy! One way or the other, you've got to be here!
I made my hotel reservation, but I'm staying a block up the street at the St Claire. I love historic and old, and they offered a special internet rate that was comparable to the fantastic deal that Margie and crew got for us at the Drury. I figure it frees up a room for the crowd that is bound to be calling them...also saw what they did for Bendi and Shawn--upgrade to a suite at no additional charge to accommodate! Super service!

Yes, I am in for the carpool. One of the contingencies of me going was that I'd try to find one, so I didn't have to drive alone. I don't take up a lot of room. I will have my laptop backpack, and I can fit clothes inside of that. And my purse, and my camera will fit in there.

Does anyone who's been to the crop in the past or that has been to San Francisco know if there is a really good Marriott to stay at? I just remembered about my Reward Points that I have and it would really help reduce the cost if I can use them. I think I might be able to use them at the San Francisco airport Marriott, I just wasn't sure how far it was from the center of things? The website says they have a shuttle bus to the BART station. Would that get us in to the city then? Brenda, you seem to know the area well, help! I've never been to this part of CA and am trying to find the most accessible way to get around (Plus the most economical too!)

This is near the Marscone building, which is nearish to downtown. Not far from Union Square and city hall. Easy bus stops to other areas.

I stayed at this one last year - http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sfojw-jw-marriott-hotel-san-francisco/ - It was very pleasant . - We walked to china town from there ( up the hill) - we walked down to the embarcadero too from there - and there are trams and busses around all the time

BART is Bay Area Rapid Transit (although there are times the rapid part is questionable  )..When I went to the Des Moines Crop I took BART from Concord directly to SFO....Got off at SFO station and walked about 50 feet to the Tram that goes to all the terminals...from there I got off and walked over to United...Bart is very wheelchair friendly and SFO is also wheelchair friendly..when you make your flight reservation tell them you need a wheelchair attendent and they will send one for you...they do the pushing...BART is really crowded until about 9am ....

Thanks for the useful info Brenda! So if we fly into SFO from Anchorage, will we be able to take BART all around town there in SF? Just wondering if I am understanding that part correctly? Not sure how we'll get to the SF station, but I think that the hotels I am checking out have shuttles to and from so hopefully that won't be a problem.

Just a note on my experience with BART - our last trip to SF we stayed out by the airport, took the hotel's free shuttle to SFO and they dropped us off right at the BART station. We took it all the way in to Powell St but then walked around SF itself, so I have no experience with getting around the city on it. I don't think it actually goes into the city itself, you may need to check into Muni which is the light rail/bus/cable car service. Check out this link http://transit.511.org/schedules/index.aspx#m1=S&m2=bus&cid=SF.

Thanks Lauri for the link. I'd been to this site before, but hadn't gotten very far with it because it's a bit tricky to understand. I'm sure we'll figure it all out somehow. It'll be an adventure that's for sure! I love adventure though so it will be fun.

Okay, I need help and sorry for the cross posts! I just called to try and get a room at the Crown Plaza and the DSP block is already sold out so they weren't able to give me a handicap accessible room at the same rate even though they have two left and even though it sounds as though there weren't any handicap rooms reserved for the group anyways. The gal I talked to tonight said that if I called in the morning and spoke to the sales department they might be able to adjust the rate. I went ahead and put on hold one of the only two rooms they had left just so I wouldn't miss out on making sure we had a room. I don't know what I am going to do though if they can't lower the rate back down to the DSP rate as I had budgeted everything out already per Dan's request and I don't know if we will still be able to afford it if it's higher than the $85/night.
So, yeah, probably sounding like I am whining, but I really really want to come and don't want this to be the reason I don't get to come. Some help would be appreciated just in case. Thanks!

we'll call tomorrow and get more rooms if they're all booked. we have way more registrations than rooms (didn't need as many rooms last year) but i'll see if we can increase the number for you!!
Margie...It is Wed morning June 27 and I just called Crowne Plaza and was also told the block of rooms has been sold out...they offered me one at $109.00 which is what I think I ended up paying last year...so I gather you were unable to get more rooms???
I have really been on the fence about coming...I want to, but will be coming alone and again it is bumping into vacation plans to go the other direction...if I can get a room at the $85 dollar rate Rebekah is welcome to share with me...
any help will be appreciated...I even played the priority club card to no avail

The Winchester Mystery House is an interesting place to go and a San Jose "must see". Built by the widow of the man who made the Winchester rifle, she was very superstitious and feared the ultimate punishment for all the people killed with the rifle. She thought if she continued building on the house she would not die and have to face this , thus she continued building and buying for it. The are many oddities such as the stairway to nowhere ....there are warehouses full of materials that never got used... you and your family will love it...
FYI I lived in Alaska for 12 years.

I really enjoyed the Winchester House last year and it isn't very far to go. I went on Sunday morning and didn't have to wait very long for a tour. As for the Golden Gate Bridge all I can say is take lots of shots! I have taken from the ends across to get the whole bridge in and have taken as we drove across to get the "on the bridge" view.

or from the Sausalito side, but you must drive up the hill and take the pic looking at the city with the bridge in the foreground and the city in the background. That spot is perfect when the fog is just starting to come in and you also get some great shots of the city.
or the city at night from Treasure Island. You can actually see alittle of the Golden Gate in the shot if you use a wide angle lens.

I did a little research and I don't think it was a drawing. Closer to the crop last year Margie posted a thread asking folks who were Photoshop or Photoshop Elements users who were very familiar with that program for scrapbooking to send her their information if they were interested in meeting with managers to give input on what works and things that they would like to see in PSE/PSCS.
I would assume that this is not something that DSP has control over, but that Adobe will allow if they wish. And dagnabbit, I won't be a contender if it happens because I'm just not familiar enough with PSCS yet!

Does anyone have any good hints about how to get the best picture of the Golden Gate Bridge? That's one shot I have got to have!
Sorry I didn't jump in earlier with some advice, my 3 sisters and their families are visiting and we are busy all day!! We went to SF last year at Labor Day, and the photos I took of the bridge were from Fort Point, on the south side of the bridge. We went up Highway 1, and then just before getting on the bridge, get off the highway and there is a lookout area right there. I'm not sure how wheel-chair accessible it is though. The photo I posted in the gallery that you left a comment on was taken down at the bay level - we hiked down a dirt path, so that wouldn't be really good for you at all!! Brenda or another bay area resident may know how to get down to Fort Point or Chrissy Field by car. We crossed the bridge afterwards, but didn't stop to take photos from the north side. As I recall, they charged people coming over the bridge from the north side and crossing from the south side was free, but were talking about charging for crossing either way, so I don't know what the final decision was on that! And it wasn't cheap either - $7 or $8, something like that.

Regarding cost to go across the bridge, you only pay one way and that is when you are going north and it costs $6.00. If you drive down to Fort Point or Baker Beach there is no cost and you can get a great up close shot of the bridge. At Fort Point you can drive right down below the bridge, get out of your car and the bridge is right there. Would be easy access in a wheelchair and at Baker Beach there is a wood ramp. Just an FYI, since it is summer time and the height of tourist season I would recommend if you can to not go on the weekend unless you go very early in the morning or later in the evening. (very nice lighting though) If you can a Friday or Monday will be less crowded. You also on the weekend might run into large wedding groups having pics taken at both Fort Point and Baker Beach. If you drive over to Treasure Island you would go haft way across the Bay Bridge, no toll would need to be paid and you get the whole SF skyline. Very dramatic and especially at night. Also no fees, and you can park, get out of the car and the skyline is right there to take pics of. Hope this helps.

So I was just looking up the details on the Winchester Mystery House and for those interested, it isn't handicapped accessible at all. I don't even think we'll attempt it especially given the bad reviews I keep reading. I nice shot of the house from out front will do me just fine I think!
??? Is someone in your family handicapped so that would be an issue??? Anyway I don't think you should miss it....it is one of the most famous and oldest San Jose attractions...I have been to it at least twice over the years...

Thanks for the info...I just knew it was something I hadn't read about??? and really wanted to do...guess I'll have to go nag at Margie...

Just remember it can be really foggy and cold....
Ask Scamp about her photo trip on the GG Bridge....
Oh yeah last year - I left Auckland ( remembering it was midwinter here - - it was not a particularly cold day here but pretty average for July and it was 15 degrees C (thats 59F ) - and I arrived in SF and it was............ 15 degrees C !!!!!!!!!- - brrrrrrrrrr- I thought it was supposed to be SUMMER there!!!!!!!-
The GG bridge only showed itself a couple of times - I remember we walked up a billion and a half steps to Coit Tower - which would have a marvellous view - ............ had it not been shrouded in fog! ( layout here - http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=274834 )

I found this great site on the computer titled "San Francisco 3958 Picture Virtural Tour" Is interactive and you can see alot of the most scenic sites from different angles. Has the Golden Gate Bridge, Fort Point, Alcatraz, Baker's Beach, Muir Woods, Chinatown and alot of the all time favorites. Check it out, can give you a good idea of what there is to take pictures of and where these places are.

Liz, you have included the address of the icon too many times and what you are seeing is some of hypertext for the icon. All you need to do is edit your signature and remove it all. Then place your cursor where you want the flair to appear and click on the icon that looks link a postcard and enter the follow in the box that appears: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/data/6648/ADOBEFlair.png and hit enter.

Yes! DW and I will be returning to Adobe this year. We had a great time last year meeting many DSPers and hope to meet more this year. We will be looking for something to do on Thurs. because we will get to San Jose on Wed. We have seen the Winchester Mystery House and the Tech, although we plan to return to the Tech on Friday morning. Maybe a day trip to SF if we can find something new to see. Hey Brenda, maybe we can all go together if you want. I know Dan wants to see the Tech musuem (at least with him being a Geek I would think he would!) and then I can show Shawn some wheelchair tips and Dan can help you with the chair. We're pros at both! Plus, Dan's got the upper body strength to load the chair pretty easily. I have a request for y'all to present to the "Adobe Powers-that-Be". One lowly person sitting at a computer in Naples, Florida, who cannot attend the crop has a feature request for PSE/PS. Here's the request: I would like to be able to specify the exact size of an item (element, selection, text box, etc.) on a layout, i.e. a 5.78" x 3.24" text box. I would also like to be able to specify the exact location of that item, i.e. 1.66" from the left edge and 8.42" from the top edge.
Thanks to Shazzt last night, I did learn about the guides that can be dragged onto the layout in CS4; it still doesn't give me the full control that I want.
Thanks for passing this on to them! And have fun!

crlin, my husband and I can help. He's profession is nothing but computers and so just let me know what you need help with and I'll ask him and send you the answers back. As far as the wireless vs. wired that is an easy enough work around. My guess is that Adobe will have wireless and all you will need is a network card in your laptop and these days they all come with one. Send me a PM with all your questions and I'll ask Dan when he gets home.

If you go into the settings you can change the display to a more classic XP view. I like it much better than the crappy vista stuff they put on there.

The jazz festival sounds great and would love to listen to some music outside after the crop while enjoying some wonderful liquid refreshment. Any takers?????????????

For those organizing the crop, is there any way to get in touch with adobe and check on accessibility of the building/room we will be in and also to make sure I can have Macintosh with me? I know by ADA public facilities but since Adobe isn't normally open to the public like this I don't know how they will feel about having a dog in their conference room. Dan will also need to be allowed to take him outside for bathroom breaks if need be and I've heard security is really tight there so I wasn't sure if they would allow him or I to be able to come and go like that if need be. I'm asking all this because I'm trying to decide whether to bring him on this particular trip or not. He's a very sweet and obedient dog and does really well inside public places even though he is still in training so I don't think he'll be much of a bother to anyone while we are all busy scrapping. If it's too much of a hassle though to work out the details I'll just leave him here for my parents to watch him. I just hate being away from him for any length of time.

Everyone who is registered will get a pass so they can come and go. I cant answer on the dog question though so I will forward your message to Margie to enquire for you.

Hope there's no problem. What I will suggest to our fearless organizers--If it's set up like it was last year is that they reserve a place for Ms Pooh on the end of the table close to the door. That way there will be easy access to the outside hallway, and Macintosh would have more room.

I haven't heard anything from Cathie lately, does anyone know if she managed to find a cheap-ish flight from the UK?? I really hope so!

This reminds me....Shawn (if he does come inside, he might be scared of us lol)

<<I have been wondering the same thing cause I have so many shirts that were either too large or too tight. It does make a difference on if they are fitted or full cut.>>

Anyone find out about the size of the shirts? I understand today is the last day to order one.
Also, this is my first crop so I've been wondering how is the best way to organize and bring all my kits for easy use? I have a portable extra hard drive that I keep everything on and I really need to get it more organized since I haven't had access to it in awhile and I've now got stuff on my hard drive and really all over. I was just curious how some of you more experienced scrappers organize your kits?
I can't believe it's still another 14 days before I leave for the crop! I'm so ready to be there now!

I just got my laptop, so I don't have anything on it. Just put PSE7 on it and need to pick out photos to scrap. My kits are all over the place also on 3 different EHDs! Just transfered some of my DSP kits to a portable hd to use at the crop. I definitely need help in the organization area!!

From our experience last year, being your first crop, you probably won't get much scrapping done. Bring some photos and some kits to use with them. Most of the time is taken up by conversations and visiting along with some lessons on how to do certain techniques. :yahoo:
I did one layout that DW started and she may have done two in the 12 hour crop. To be fair, she was part of a focus group with Adobe representative for about 3 hours.

Thanks. I am mainly asking because I really need to start scrapping my friend's European cruise pictures to turn into an album for her that I promised her I would do for her and it's been two years now that I've had these pictures! I am just extremely stuck on these set of photos for some reason (probably because I am worried about whether or not she'll like what I pick out since she is so picky herself). If anyone is interested in helping me go through these while I am there please let me know and I'll bring them. Thanks!

I signed up my mom and I and this will be our first laptop crop. We are looking for general information but after going through almost all the posts this morning, we still have some questions. Is there someplace to go for info, such as a schedule of the day, is there outlets to plug in our laptops, etc? I was disappointed to read you don't get much scrapping time during the day. I was looking forward to getting so work done!
