Hi Everyone,

Hope I'm posting to the right place! I am new to digital scrapbooking and already know I am completely hooked. I really like the heritage scrapping because I am doing genealogy. I have read all the discussions on software programs. I have been working with my old Picture It! 2001 and was very happy with it until I wanted to start adding overlays to my layouts. Just doesn't support it.

I searched the internet to find an upgraded version of Picture It, but Microsoft infoms me they have discontinued all their digital imaging software. I liked Picture It because of how easy it was to work with, but now think I am going to have to invest in a new program. I have been reading about My Memories. How many use this program and is it as easy as it proclaims?

Any help or suggestions about the programs you use would be greatly appreciated. No offense intended, but please do not suggest PSP!!! I was given a version of PSP7 and I worked with it and absolutely dispise it!! I spent more time on the internet trying to find tutorials than I did actually making anything. Thank you in advance for your input.

I have heard a lot of people really like the ease of use of My Memories. You specifically mention being able to use overlays, and I don't know if that is something it support. Hopefully someone who has used it will pop in and share.

The other "main stream" option is Photoshop Elements (PSE). Version 7 is the latest. You can download a trial from Adobe's web site, and then maybe try this tutorial: Completing Your First Paper-Style Page (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/pse_firstlayout_ag/pse_firstlayout_ag.shtml) and see what you think.

I have 2 suggestions depending on your budget and what you want out of your software - firstly we sell My Memories Suite here at DSP which comes loaded with graphics for you to use and its simple, and intuitive and easy to use and you will get your pages done fast. - my other suggestion would be Photoshop elements - it has a relatively steep learning curve ( but not as steep as PSP ) but you will be able to do a lot with it and wont " grow out of it" - you will be able to work with photos and editing and improving them too - but it is more expensive .

I second what Lauren said!

And welcome to DSP--there are some wonderful heritage scrappers here, and would love for you to join in!

Adobe does have a trial of photoshop elements and there are many elements users here at DSP who can help (I use this one). I have never use MMS, so I can't comment on it.

It really depends on if you need to work with your photos or just make LOs.

If you want to work on restoring the older photos for the pages, you will want something like elements. It does have a learning curve, but it is also very easy to get started if you have a good tutorial or book to help you.
