I am assuming that when any fonts are used in kits that are sold, we must first get permission from the font designer. I have noticed in the past a few fonts that say you can use for whatever reason including commercial. Of course I don't remember them. Soooo, I think I will be going through my 3000-4000+ fonts to see what is what. LOL!

You are dead right -some font creators require you to purchase a special license for commercial use - some dont allow it at all and others are able to be used commercially - the terms of use are usually with the font when you download it or you can contact the creator and ask

and two important points: keep good records and don't assume you can if someone else can! sometimes font creators change their terms of use, so you need to show you had permission before they changed them (and still comply with the new ones probably, but you need to be able to show it). and some companies, like DSP, get exclusive rights to use some fonts commercially, so some we use may not be available to others. :)

Lauren and Margie have great ideas. I keep all my emails and responses in a folder and backed up in case anyone every questions my use. :D

oh it's always good to double check with the designer as some font creators opinion of freeware is different than someone elses....I've found the label of "freeware" on different fonts and then went to check and one designer said that it does not allow for commercial use and another designer said yes it is allowing commerical use. :-) Just get it in writing cleare and to the point.
