My new Epson 1400 arrived yesterday & I unpacked it this morning. Thank goodness it's not quite as big as the box it came in,lol! I haven't set it up yet or installed the ink cartridges. It even came with a copy of Photoshop Elements 6.
I've been reading through the book & looking at all the different Epson papers that will fit in the printer. I want to print 12x12 and they don't list a 12x12 paper in the handbook.
Will the printer software/setup recognize the 12x12 size?
The reason I finally decided to get the Epson printer was because of a booth at the Arlington scrapbook convention. There was a paper company called Red River that used the Epson printer with their papers. The quality was awesome & the recommended Epson & sell Epson ink also. I plan on ordering paper from them but wanted to make sure of the paper sizes first. They do sell 11x14, 11x17, 13x19 & 12x12 among other sizes.
I just wanted to ask if the 1400 software will recognize the 12x12 as a printing size.
thanks, Rhoda

Yeah! I love my Epson 1400. I ran a regular 12 x 12 piece of scrapbook paper thru and printed a title with an alpha so it does take that size. I use 13 x 19 presentation paper as it is less expensive, and order ink thru Epson.

Thanks for the reply! I live an hour from any major stores so if we go out this afternoon I'll look for the matte paper. We have an OfficeDepot, Staples & BestBuy so I'll make the rounds if we go.
The sample layouts printed on matte paper were awesome!

Congrats on the new printer! You might compare costs on the 12x12 and 13x19. I scrap 12x12, and although I print at Costco, they actually print on a 12x18 sheet of photo paper for the same price as 12x12 prints. So I use the extra "real estate" and get a 6x6 and 4x4 inch size on the same page for brag books. If you can use the extra space, it is probably less expensive to go 13x19, and you can print full size and trim, without worrying about edge to edge printing. What I send to print looks like:

http://cdn-2-service.phanfare.com/images/external/1466784_1419796_35458288_Web_3/0_0_31757f18bd97026aead3569433903c5f_1

And looking at the cost of Red River Polar Matte, 13x19 sheets look to be about 68 cents each, and 12x12 sheets about 52 cents each (both sold in packs of 50 sheets). So not a huge savings, but a little if you have use for the extra print space.

Thanks for layout pic! I had thought doing something like that when I make layouts of my preschool class. I sent everything off to be printed as 12x12 but will probably make smaller ones this year. I thought it would be a neat way to print off bracket albums and cd album pages too.
And speaking of cds, I'd like to buy a pack of those special cds that you can print on.
My ds is in an Alice Cooper band & he would be surprised as heck if his old mama made something like that for his band cds! I might be 'cool':D

BTW - your printer does not have to have any specific page size option - Epson's have "user defined" as one of the paper sizes. You choose "user defined" in your scrapbook software printer options and then you go to Epson pinter options (properties) - click on "user defined" and manually enter the size you want.

Default is 11 x 8.5 - so if you are using a rectangle, replace the 11 with the larger side - replace the 8.5 with the smaller side. Of course, with 12x12, it won't matter.

Epson has 12x12 matte coated scrapbook paper. It's pricey - but it's coated on both sides so you can print on both sides. It's thick - very high quality - but it has a soft warm color instead of start white - however, that doesn't seem to effect how the page comes out.

They do not have 12x12 semi-gloss or gloss. I really don't know why - you'd think with the inception of their wide format printers, they would've made paper to go with it since the primary user of the wide formats is 12x12 scrappers.

I have the R1900 - which I replaced my R800 with. You will love the quality of the Epson prints.

Read your directions for install carefully. I'm pretty sure you do not attach the printer to the computer until AFTER you install the printer software.

We have a HP9800 wide format printer. We use double sided matte paper the comes in 13X19 size. When we are doing 12X12 pages we cut it to 12X12 and save the left over 7" for other projects. The printer software has an option for 12X12 borderless printing. We get excellent results.

I have an Epson 1410 wide format printer and love it. I use Epson Premiere Matte paper, it comes in 12x12 especially for scrapbooking and is double sided. Go to www.adorama.com They sell it for $11.95 for a packet of 10 sheets, so works out at just over 50 cents per print. By using this paper I don't have to do any trimming at all.

I have never tried Red River paper. I wonder how it would work with my Canon i9900 wide format printer.

My order from RedRiverpaper came this past Tuesday afternoon & that night I printed 22 layouts:). They looked fabulous! The Epson software did recognize the 12x12 size & had a borderless option which I only forgot to set once or twice.;).
I've been told good things about the Hawk Mountain brand of paper however, I probably won't be trying it. It will cost $14.00 in the cheapest option of shipping prices.
I'm in the same UPS zone as RedRiver & my shipping was $9 something & I got it the next day.
OT-My dh & I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this weekend & can't wait!:love1::love3:

Thank you! We're going to Little Rock for the weekend & have tickets for the Celtic Woman concert. I saw them for my birthday in February last year. I was so disapointed in not being able to take photographs:(. I'll have my cell phone though:rolleyes:.

My BIL uses Red River and has had excellent service from them. Epson has been very good with my orders of paper and ink and I'm finding my ink - with free shipping - is very competitively priced at the Epson site.

Almost all paper products will work with mainstream printers who offer ICC Color Profiles (so the printer knows what "formula" to use when printing on off-brand paper.)

Go to your printer's or the paper manufacturer's website and download the printer profiles for your specific printer. Install them into your printer software and you will then have that option when you go to change paper types in the properties section of your printing menu.

The secret to high quality prints is using paper profiles.

Thanks for that information, Janice. I will be checking this out.

I overlooked the profile for mine but i found it tonight & downloaded it. I bought the Unibind photobook creator & 8x8 & 12x12 book covers at the convention this month. As I was decluttering my computer/scrapping room I found 2 packages of double sided matte paper. I really need to start scrapping again:D!

Thanks for the information on Red River. I've been looking for an option for paper and this seems to be the cheapest so far for 12x12 sized paper.

Question do you all print front and back???? Does RedRiver paper work front and back??

I bought a pack of epson 12x12 paper on clearance a long time ago at office depot for $1 YAY so I'm going to play around with that paper. Question is though it claims on the front of the package to be front and back printable. I hadn't even thought about that until i read it.

Thanks!

When we print 12X12 layouts, we use Staples double sided matte paper that comes in 13X19 size. I cut the paper to 12X12 and then we print on it and we do use both sides. The left over paper is saved for printing small photos or other small print requirements.

Red River does have double sided paper but I haven't bought it yet. I'm still printing layouts from the single sided paper. I bought one of those album maker machines that bind the paper & albums so I'm going to print double sided for the next album & see how it goes.
They were at the GASC convention in Arlington last summer & if they are there this year I plan on buying at the show so I can save on shipping.
