I'm thinking that I might need to convert some of my files to .pdf but I cannot afford a $300+ program.
Is there any other options for legit. programs that convert files?

I mainly need it for word docs and .jpg files-- I might use it for some of my layouts, but I can convert them easily to .jpg's.

I admit, I don't really understand how this all works.... but part of the purpose would be to have an easy way to copy information that I have in a file to a blog, as well as maybe out to others through email. But I'm not really sure if having a pdf is really the best solution for this either. I'm REALLY beginner into blogging and have barely managed to figure out BlogSpot-- like for example, I thought there was a way I could customize the page with my own graphics, and now I can't really figure that out.

I basically will be creating a monthly newsletter with text and graphics that I need to distribute easily through email, blogs, and online-- and pdf is usually how I see others do this, to some degree.

TIA!!

And depending on what version of Word you have, Word will actually save as a PDF too.

I use CutePDF writer and I've been happy with it. It installs as a printer, so you just "Print" then select the CutePDF Writer as the option and it saves as a PDF file from ANY program you can print from, even webpages in a browser.

Perhaps, but I couldn't figure out how to. Maybe I should look into that as this laptop is a couple months old and came with the new Office.

Wouldnt' that make me feel silly(-; (But I still need it for other stuff).

I did install open office because my dh uses that at work and likes it and I figure if it is good enough for them... and free... it's probably more than fine for me.

Thanks!

I use open office and I don't have any problem, except that it cannot read or open any files from the newest MS Office that end in X (like, .docx) Other than that, it's great.

I also use PrimoPDF (http://www.primopdf.com/).

It sets itself up as a printer so you basically choose File > Print > then choose PrimoPDF as the printer. It will bring up another screen asking where you want to save the .pdf file.

Open Office version 3.1 will read *.docx files and all other MS Office 2007 files.

How do you get it to do that? That is the version I have, and my file says it's up to date, but it won't recognize those files. any help to remedy this would be great!

I created a docx document last night and was able to open it in Open Office Writer. From the Open Office main menu, I chose open document and opened the docx document in Writer. I also started Writer and then asked it to open a document which was the docx one. No problems with either method.

Hope this helps.
