Last Thursday I completed my first scrapalong with Emma...boy do I have some questions...

When you put a pic in do you paste as a selection, image, or layer?

Also, I don't think I got the light filter to work.

When my friend pulled up photo at work...you could see where I erased the photo edges. Don't think it's supposed to be that way...

When do you do the light filter...before you paste?

Can you help?....so very new at this & don't have a manual for PSP8 and first time working with a program this intense. Greatly appreciated. Lori

I think the best person to work with you on this is Emma. Maybe you can PM her? Go to her quick class artice on the subject in the meantime though:

LOL, Cris! She did PM me and I told her to post the questions here! I thought if we all work through the answers they should be posted for others to benefit too, plus invited opinions from others as well. I'm no PSP savante, struggling to keep a step ahead for the Scrapalongs

1. When you put a pic in do you paste as a selection, image, or layer?
Paste as a Layer, or make a new layer then paste as selection

2.Also, I don't think I got the light filter to work.
Looks like it worked, may just have to adjust the settings to make it more concentrated. I also used a large, soft black brush to further darken the edges

3. When my friend pulled up photo at work...you could see where I erased the photo edges. Don't think it's supposed to be that way...
Yes, I see it too, and Yes, it shouldn't be that way! There are many different ways of removing the hard edge, since you used the eraser tool just use a larger, softer brush (adjust the size slider up to about 300 and the hardness to 0). There are better ways to do this, but your intent the eraser works just fine!

3. When do you do the light filter...before you paste?
After you paste and soften the edges. That way you don't erase or brush black over the lighting effects; get the photo just right, apply the lighting, and brush a little black over the edges if necessary.

4. don't have a manual for PSP8
The help option for PSP is very good, written in non-designer English! I don't have a manual either, I'm just using the free 90 trial downloaded from their site and lots of online tutorials!

Welcome to the site, glad you learned something, and hope this helps! And thanks for plugging Scrapalongs :)
