Howdy All!!

We will be moving in a couple of months into a larger home...and I'll be getting my own room for my office (right now I share an office with our guest room slash storage room slash everything else :-))

I am going to be designing a cabinet system from home depot...think kitchen counter like but it will be my work surface.

Does anyone have any suggestions???

Can you share some pictures of your DIGISCRAP Space/Room? I always see such cool elaborate well organized Paper scrapping/crafting rooms but I haven't seen very much of the digital scrap rooms. I know margie did a layout of her space which was cool.

I need to house right now 3 printers one large one and 2 standard sized. (hopefully one will be replaced with a stand alone scanner). A fax machine, printer paper organizer, Binders, storage for CD's & magazines, Idea books, storage for empty albums....etc...you know what I need you all do this all the time like me. I'll be keeping my computer in my computer armoire...but will be using the counter space for organizing pictures and scanning laying out albums, etc.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS!!!

Congrats on the move and the new room!

Here's how my set-up works. My computer table's pretty basic - enough room for the monitor and stuff on the desktop, CD storage up above, and a cabinet for the tower.

On the right in a short cabinet that hold all my printer paper. On top of that is a 4-drawer printer stand where I keep extra ink and basic printer paper. The printer sits on top.

On the left is a short bookshelf. My font binders sit on the bottom row, and I need to reorganize what's on the top row - no idea at the moment exactly what's there! The scanner sits on top.

Next to the bookshelf (behind my left shoulder) is my old computer table which right now is a precariously balanced, over-laden horizontal surface.

The room is also my sewing room, so when I need to spread anything out, it goes on my cutting table.

My advice - make sure the counter is tall enough so that it's comfortable to stand and work at. My cutting table is your basic folding banquet table with pvc pipe leg extensions to get it up to a comfortable height. And - there's probably no such thing as too many shelves. I've also used stackable wire cubes before - they give you storage without feeling like they're taking up space because you can see through them.

Okay - don't laugh! But I had mine all drawn out already. I used to have actual architectural plans - but don't know where they ended up. So here's a rough idea. This only shows a small part of the office - the actual desk area.

Congratulations!

I designed a small office when we remodeled a garage-- (master bedroom, bath, laundry room and MY OFFICE!

My biggest recommendation before ANYTHING-- is to DECLUTTER! ( check out www.flylady.net ) Don't laugh-- Get brutal-- don't MOVE stuff that's going to stay in boxes and get in your way. Declutter not just scrappin stuff--but everything...............

I have a long office with a corner wrap around desk-- currently it stores everything :( Since I have a laptop-- I basically can scrap wherever!

Today I'm selling my paper scrap supplies-- I don't use them or need them anymore! ;)

If children come, you'll be so glad you got rid of stuff NOW!

the voice of experience, :)

Donna,
Defintely agree!!! I've gotten rid of tons of stuff....I'm already a flybaby :) I have the stuff I want to keep but don't really have a place for everything and that is where my need comes in. Although I know there is probably more I can toss.

Amanda!!! Woo hoo that is exactly what I'm doing I've got to get mine all drawn out...Home Depot will do a rendering with the cabinets (i'm going with the cheap ones) I think in the next month or so I'll get them to do a work up for me. I just need to get clear on what I want...I think i'll do a drawing like yours so I can get a feel for things first.

And I LOVE the window seat I was so going to do that too!!!

Well here is what I've come up with so far....
My DigiScrap Desk (http://bellsouthpwp.net/w/e/webgurly/Main/desk%20config.jpg)

I will be putting in pull out trays into the base cabinets for my printers and will be using an upper level pull out tray in the tall cabinet for my scanner so it will be at a good height

The far right side is shelves for magazine files and idea books. I'm going to put a wall sconce up above to illuminate the surface, but it won't be hard wired it will be plugged in.

This is based on a 6 foot length. I'm mainly going to use it for storage and for spreading out..so i didn't include a space to sit at...but I may rethink it.

I'm putting together a list of all the things I want/need to store in there and then I'll be able to better assess if this configuration will meet my needs.

I have dismantled my scrapbook room. I used the Clean Sweep method and bought 20 laundry baskets (at the Dollar Store) and hired two ladies to help. The room was cleared in about an hour. My sister-in-law and niece took most of the stuff, but I can get back anything I decide I need. So far I haven't needed a darned thing.

As soon as I get home, a contractor will be installing a French door-wall in the back that goes out to the garden my son-in-law built for me. The window will be removed in favor of a greenhouse window, and ceramic tile flooring will be added. A small deck outside and freshly painted walls are next. I want to add a Donna Dewberry (one-stroke brush painting) border around the top and extend some of the motif with hand painting down onto the wall.

A big conference table from my neighbor slides right into the closet and the new computer cabinet (that closes up) will move out of the living room. DH gave me 4 pieces of wicker furniture and an area rug for Christmas. Voila! My Garden/Computer/Scrapping room!

I am VERY excited, as you can imagine.

Well it's almost here my new computer room!!! YIPPIE. Since Ikea has moved to atlanta I've designed it using their kitchen planner. It is going to be really great I can't wait. DH said next month we can probably get the cabinetry. I'm going to put everything togther then get the counter top.

WOO HOO I'm so excited....there is going to be a place for everything!!! Woot woot.

I just read the first message about my computer room and had to laugh. It was so simple! As it turned out, I didn't do that at all.

Tony Vs Sunrooms had a display and discount at Sam's Club in May and I went a totally different route. My computer room added 3 feet of floorspace by breaking through to a useless outdoor storage space, and adding a 4 foot sunroom out into my garden. I sit here at my computer in a room 7 feet larger than before, look out into my garden (which needs weeding right now), listen to the splash of water in my fountain, and just love everything about this room.

When it rains the sound on the roof of the garden sunroom is amazing! I can't wait to see how I like it in other seasons. Winter should be wonderful.

okay - my room is rather unique! i am very lucky to have a huge space (20'x30') and i am still a major papercrafter - mainly stamping and altered art - so i still have tons of paper and supplies (tho i am really trying to cut back!!). also - my room is a wreck right now, so please forgive me (i usually host weekly crops with my friends and that keeps the room in line!)

i love my computer desk and the chrome rack with my printers (it holds five of them and all of the assorted paper and ink). the electronics storage is just black wire cubes from target - you can make shelves using cable ties (like in the paper storage next to the desktop). i have several of those plastic office tables and one is right behind me so i can swivel back and forth from the desktop pc to the laptop or some other project. bookcases hold all my scrap books and mags as well as completed albums and sorted photos. my scanner is usually on one of the desk ledges, but i've been scanning to my laptop recently (much more comfortable to sit and scan my mom's hundreds of photos!!)

i also love my genesis trimmer and spiral binder which i use as much for my digital stuff as my paper!!

i live in this room!!

Karen - I just had to post & say I have room envy :)

I have a 8x10 craft room that I just reclaimed from a ton of stuff now either sold, given to goodwill or hauled to the dump. (I may actually be able to finish the weddng quilt for my brother I started 3 years ago) I have all my quilting, crochet & cross stitch stuff as well as most of my library in there. But the computer in a gated off corner of our living room so I can watch the boys while I am using it.
