I would love to create a family cookbook (with family pictures included) for my children and their families for Christmas. We have had several losses in our family and I think this would be a way to keep the family heritage alive. Although I have been on this site for a few years, I am a novice. Any ideas, kits in the store, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I just can't seem to get started.
Thanks!

I've been wanting to do a recipe book too, but I have yet to find a way to start. I guess by collecting the recipes and finding photos to go with?
I am still trying to decide what size to make mine in. I generally scrap 12x12 but I think that's overkill. But I don't know how to do anything else I am in such a rut.

I think smaller would be good, too. 8x8 (especially if you are a square scrapper and that is what you are comfortable with), or 8 1/2 x 11. As much as we all like to get to the actual scrapping, collecting the photos and recipes is probably the best thing to spend your time on first. Once you have a fair amount collected, you might have a better idea of how you want to present them. A recipe book would be a perfect thing to have printed in a bound book at a place like Artscow. For kits, I would probably go with neutral colored kits, and pick 3 or 4 that go well together, that you could draw from. Come up with kind of a standard format for each recipe/page - where the recipe goes, where the photo goes of the family member, and a spot for a bit of commentary either about the person or the recipe. Go spend some time at a book store and look through the pretty cookbooks for inspiration!

I made a Christmas Recipe Book (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=1759) a couple of years back - made several copies which i had copied and gave to all the ladies in the family for Christmas. I settled on 8x10 and used lots of family pics on each page. It has become a book i love :) Since each page has been laminated its great for wiping down.

Thank you for the great ideas. I am in the process of collecting the pictures and recipes now. Meryl, your Christmas book and family favorites are awesome. What a great inspiration for me. I can't wait to get the items scanned so I can begin.

one option polly, is if you have handwritten copies of recipes, you can use those in your LO instead of typing out the recipe. I wish I had some LOL
What a fab idea getting them laminated.

I do have handwritten recipes - some from the late 1800's. They are yellowed, ragged, spotted; but all are handwritten by great-great grandmothers on down to my mother and mother-in-law. I am going to scan them in just as they are. I seem to be the keeper of the family "memories".

Yes, I loved the handwritten ones and whenever i had I did scan and include. Often though, directions were pretty brief, and since then we have gone metric (best thing ever - sooo much easier!) so largely for the benefit of the younger members of the family I gave them both versions - the Christmas Cake double page was a good example - i actually included both my grans (either side's) handwritten.

Wonderful pages Meryl. Inspirational.
I also have started gathering items a couple of times and then never continue. I've made a few pages and then wasn't sure that's the way I wanted to go, so stopped again. I need to jump back in and figure out what I want to do. Not sure of why I am finding this so tough.
