Here is the next photo we are using as inspiration - this is inside the Mission at Carmel. - Keep your swatches to 5 or fewer colours and make your suggestions on colours for this new kit

Beautiful photo. I like that little hint of slate blue in there. Here's one swatch:

I don't usually do Gimme a Clue, mainly cos I don't trust in my own colour judgement, but since I love Carmel Mission, I just felt I had to join in.

Hard decision!!!!- but lets go with this one from Sharon. I actually like several and maybe we can do a second one later on ( well hey after weve done the other 2400 photos I have................................ )

So anyway fire away with background suggestions

A worn wood like the pews

I think a tiled bg, something reminiscent of the tiles in the picture. Or a bg with a burst of that goldish tan on it, like a star or explosion.

YES! I was looking at the floor, and thinking there should be a bg similar to the tile floor with grungy brown around the edge.

a floral swirl in the top two colors

Sharon1313
08-18-2009, 04:58 PM
I like the idea of darker tiled background to mimic the floor, with flecks of gold on the brown... also looking at the ceiling, I'm thinking of a BG based on the lightest color in the swatch, with weathered lines in the color of the second swatch... maybe almost a marbled effect.

TalyQ

A background in tan and gold, something that reminds of those arches.

Oooh, love these! What about something with the slate blue? Would a thin blue and tan stripe work, or would that be too jarring?

bludlfn003
08-18-2009, 08:33 PM
what about something that looks like the stained glass in the blue
I second Sharon's idea of the slate blue and tan in a thin stripe

I love it so far Lauren! How about a slate whitewashed wood look?

The blue would look great like it was a glass splashback. So the blue is the wall behind the clear glass splashback and so there are light reflections etc showing. Maybe with bevelled edges on the glass.

I was thinking the same thing about something stained glass, but I couldn't figure out how it would work exactly. It'd be really neat though!

A frame - perhaps something to echo the frames on the walls, or the gold from the alter. Something like old books or parchment for journaling (unless you are going to use a photo of the Library as inspiration for something else).
Some ferns, flowers?

MurlieMac
08-19-2009, 08:05 AM
How about a slate blue tapestry BG

TalyQ
08-19-2009, 08:08 AM
I also vote for a slate blue background to give contrast to those brown ones.

Lauren
08-19-2009, 04:08 PM
Actually I think the blue should just be an accent - so Im looking for another background suggestion. - otherwise I shall just come up with something on my own

MurlieMac
08-19-2009, 04:12 PM
How about the gold only shimmery like a chalice (or like the middle of the floor in the photo)

MurlieMac

Hanging pendent light
a parchment scroll
old books
accent scrollwork
stained glass frame

A blank manuscript aged sheet or open leather bound book, very worn at the edges (the blue could be in a ribbon bookmark).

A stone frame, like the windows.

A gold-leaf flourish.

Managed to miss the start of this one again, but hope you don't mind me try to join in - the kit is beautiful already.

See you didn't know I was psychic but I am... apparently.

Elements:

I think a gold frame, like molding would be cool.
I like the open leather bound book idea too.
Hmm also leather looking ribbon type things. I don't know if that made sense but I can see it in my head.
A scrap of linen.
And Altar candles could be neat as well.

Thank you so much for the Lilly Lauren, you do know I've got to buy this kit the minute you get it in the store don't you? The Alstroemeria (poor mans lilly) is perfect Lauren thank you for picking my idea, I feel honoured.

I think now we need a piece of old parchment that is curled and torn at the edges for journalling.

I love Lynnies idea of flower confetti, this kit has 'bridal photos' in mind for me, so confetti would be perfect.

I think this maybe one of the most versatile kits in the store - this kit could be used for pretty much any kind of layout, as windstorm says - I am amazed at how it can be this versatile, yet still serve the original purpose of scrapping the Carmel Mission pictures!!

I agree on the parchment for journaling. Maybe a book, maybe a piece of parchment, maybe a wooden plaque on the wall, or one of those clever folded journaling strips you do, but in parchment.
