Hi,

I signed up recently for a free Photoshop class with CreativeTechs that starts next week. It's geared mostly for Mac users and isn't specifically for scrapbooking but I figured, what the heck??

Anyway they just sent a reminder about the Photoshop class that included info about a Lightroom class too...check it out here:

I've heard about Lightroom a lot but I don't know what the difference is between Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge. I currently have PS CS3 and Bridge. I have never used Bridge because I never quite understood it's purpose. Can someone enlighten me?

I have the trial too version too. I fixed a photo that I took on a disposable camera in Hawaii in June. I didn't really know what I was doing, but it turned out great! I'll post it when I'm done with the LO.

Lightroom is more like a straight up digital darkroom.. I can't compare it too PS as I only have PSE with Raw add on but I can say I really love Lightroom as a place to work on just my photo.. You can do some amazing things with your photos. We rented a little underwater P&S last May at the Great Barrier Reefs. I was so disappointed with the photos until I started playing with them in LR... And those were just jpegs.. You have even more control when working with Raw..I guess you can tell I am a Lightroom fan :D:D:D Classes would be great. I taught myself with the help of Kelby's Lightroom book which has way too much info for the casual user but was able to filter through all the pro stuff..

I guess I'm still confused as the difference between Photoshop or another photo editing program and Lightroom. What does Lightroom do that Photoshop doesn't?

Lightroom is geared specifically for photography. It does non-destructive photo editing. Technically you can do most of the changes in Photoshop, but Lightroom does it more easily and you can then export to photoshop without changing the original image, so it's really quick and easy to browse through your photos and make quick changes and decide which ones to use, then bring them into photoshop.

Here's a comparison article I found

Great link Shannon. Certainly should answer any questions re PS and LR... I shoot in Raw so LR for me just makes sense... I import all my photos to it, make my adjustments easily with all it's goodies, can play with some fun presets all without ever touching the photos original makeup, can easily compare before and afters and side by sides for those shots that are similar, export it to a scrap folder or a print folder with all it's adjustments, and all pretty quickly. Certainly made processing my photos much easier and quicker and saves space on my hard drive as I don't have to keep 2 copies ( the original and the edited... My edits info is always in LR and my original is always untouched..

Miss Shannon, that is a great article you posted. There were other links on that page about Lightroom that were interesting too. Thanks!!
