Hi, I am new to digital scrapping and this whole font thing. I have seen in a couple other threads that with Windows XP it is okay to add fonts directly. I have downloaded about 250 fonts and expect that to be all I will need for the time being. Before I downloaded the font, I right clicked the image and saved it into a folder I named font thumbnails so that I can tell what the font looks like. Do I need a font manager program for this number of fonts, or is what I did okay...will adding 250 different fonts slow my computer down much. As I said, I am not very computer savvy. Thanks in advance for your help...Kathie

You should be fine with 250 with XP - but you may want to start with a font manager now as fonts can become VERY addicting VERY quickly! Start organizing now before it gets too overwhelming!

Thanks Amanda...I have been reading thru the threads and am totally confused as to which font manager is the best (or least likely to mess up my computer) to use. My head is just spinning..
oh, just start slowly. I didn't donwload any fonts the first few months, until I REALLY felt limited by what I had. Try to focus on just what you can so you don't get intimidated, or worse, frustrated. Frustration breeds quitting, and we want you around for a long time!
Check out the tutorial on the Font Thing, it'll help, and has a link to download in the tutorial. It's free, so just start there and you can upgrade later if you choose.
Dont' let all the logistics of setting up and downloading and font managment deter you from getting started scrapping! Just do the tutorial, make some layouts, then throw them away and start over. You can't mess anything up: it's digital!
Welcome to DSP, we're all of us happy to help, this is a great place to hang out and learn!

Thanks for your help and encouragement!! I plan on taking your intro class for PSE-3 the next time it is offered. (not enough time to get it done this March) I am new to that as well (actually it is still in the box!!) I have PSP but just don't really like it...my goal is to master PS someday so I decided to get rid of PSP and that PSE would at least give me a feel for the PS format.
I may become a real pest around here...
Thanks again...Kathie

Hang in there.
For what its worth I use The Font Thing and never had a problem. I have about 850 fonts (some I know I will never use but we are all allowed our quirks)
Also, why not use PSP for the mean time, I know that PS is considered THE THING, but I use PSP and love it - have a look at some of the talented PSP users (check out the results of the Wars).
But hang in there - it really is fun isn't it?
