I love this colorful pillow I recently made for a young friend, though I am not sure my color swatch is the best choice, there certainly are many options for this one:

Kathleen thanks for the help!!! This is a good safe practice run. Next time I'll try to figure out how to make my picture bigger. I had to make it pretty small for the Gallery.

Sherrill... Here is how to have your image display in a forum thread.
The image needs to either be in the gallery, or some other online photo sharing site first. Get the location of the image. If it is here at DSP, click on the image in the gallery, and then with your mouse over the photo, right click and click properties and select and copy the full address/URL.
Then when you make you post, you need to insert the link in the following format:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/data/500/IMG_post.jpg
Now off to look for a photo!

You can change the color scheme there is a peachy undertone in the tiles and granite that did not come up in the color scheme.

I took these photos of Lynnies son, James, today after I collected him from the airport. We went sight seeing and these picures were taken at Wentworth Castle and I have a whole bunch of them. I'd like to scrap them for him (and Lynnie) so how cool would it be if Lauren chose my photo to make a kit. I chose these from the bunch as they have some awesome autumn colours.

This is a tougher photo to "swatch" than I expected! I was thinking the swatch should be bright and colorful, but when I plug in the photo to a couple tools, that is not what I get. I do like the strong reds and blues, so cheated on the swatch a bit and used a gradient. The mustard/yellow/orange doesn't seem quite right, but bright yellow seems to bright. Purple didn't look right either. Anyway, here is what I cam up with ... Lauren, any ideas lurking in your lovely brain????
Wuvie, I think I like your swatch more!

Yes this is more what I envisaged Kathleen - maybe adding in a lighter cream as well.......
Lauren
09-02-2009, 07:42 PM
Heres the scheme I decided on - its basically Kathleens scheme but altered up a bit - I increased the saturation on the brown and lightened it to more of a gold and added in a cream .
A tip for making colour schemes - often sampling from a photo doesnt give you the best swatch - thats because your eye blends the colours in the pixels together to get a tone - for instance those supports look cream but in actual fact there is no cream in there at all - its different shades of white brown beige and grey - so sampling wouldnt give you a nice shade to work with -
I tend to eyeball my swatches - and then play with the hue and saturation of the various colours till I get one that looks good

I'm seeing a really grunged up paper in thr red.
Also the orangey colored with flecks of the blue or red

Nice job on the swatch, Lauren, and thanks for the explanation!
I would love to see a sky like background. Maybe a bit of sun flare in a corner or side.
Alternatively, a grunged up blue background with a large scale swirly red stamp in it.

A paper with a waffley / ice cream coney type pattern [inventing new words here too!]
I was actually thinking that popsicle sticks would go well with this... think hot dogs on sticks [do you have those in the US?] and ice blocks... but not sure of that as a bg.

In addition to doing beautiful work, Lauren is absolutely THE best about getting bonuses sent and products into stores right away, Kim -- one of many reasons I try to make it to her chats -- and also the reason I spend so danged much money on her kits. :annoyed: :D
I see you're new and a fellow Californian. Welcome to DSP--you'll love it here.
Welcome also to monroesdragonfl. What a great picture!
I'm so bad at ideas--something with cotton candy, neon lights, carousel horses or other animals, ticket booth.....

The Iowa State Fair has EVERYTHING on a stick (or a bone)!!! Pork chops, turkey legs, ice cream, dipped oreos, twinkie-on-a-stick ... there is more, check out the official Food-On-A-Stick (http://www.iowastatefair.com/entertainment/food-on-a-stick.php) list!!
As for ideas ...
Soft yellow/neutral, kind of a washed out paper. Maybe with small flecks of the other colors, or at least the red. The red paper seems to be throwing me off, not quite sure why.
Cathiemarie

How about a candy striped bg paper, similar to what we would call seaside rock in England.
...The red paper seems to be throwing me off, not quite sure why.
Me too, Kathleen, and I don't know why either.
Thinking about the pathways between booths of food or carnival games.... Maybe a shadowy, impressionistic type of view down that pathway?
Tickets, popcorn, red candy apples, triangular colored pennants on flag poles, something related to a fun house, balloons, bright curly ribbons (like the kind used for little girls' hats or wands at medieval fairs), haystack, barnyard animals, prize blue ribbons, the lights of a carousel...
My head hurts..... :D
Dani B
09-04-2009, 04:26 PM
A background paper that would show off the lighted rides and carosel would be wonderful.
We need something in the way of a poster like they have on the sides of the ticket booths, carnival tickets too. Maybe the words County Fair but with room to add our own county name to it. A don't feed the animals sign too for those 4H projects. That would make for a cute sign to go with feeding the kids all those yummy county fair treats. LOL
Raphne
09-04-2009, 06:25 PM
ooooo, I love these-- ESPECIALLY that blue background!
And maybe we're thrown off because those 3 backgrounds just feel so complete???
It would be fun to have a background that brings in more of the fair theme, maybe another blue with a few faint balloons in all the colors floating through the sky. . .
Shana34
09-04-2009, 06:29 PM
Maybe to go with the whole night carnival type thing...a night sky background to show of the lights like someone suggested? With sparkly stars?

Just an fyi - this is still going to be generic - frankly kits that are too strongly themed just dont sell and these days with the economy the way it is for all of us I need to be even more careful about what I make to maximise sales
Raphne
09-04-2009, 06:46 PM
Absolutely understandable, Lauren! Why would you want to put that much time and effort into creating something to have it not sell?
Lauren
09-04-2009, 06:52 PM
Yes its very hard to find a balance between making a kit useable for a specific theme but also generic enough to not limit sales -
wuvie
09-04-2009, 06:54 PM
How about something with an old notepaper look, lines and smudges?
Lauren
09-04-2009, 07:53 PM
Hopefully this last bg keeps the sort of tone of the fun of the fair without taking it too themed - Im ready to start on elements - so think generic but think fair at the same time - its hard I know - but if we can come up with elements that will work on multiple theme layouts then thats the sort of kit that sells the best
