Okay, I have this for inspiration, from Carolyn. (Why she wants to scrap her sheets, I dunno)
Kidding, Caro!

Anyway, I'm on a green kick myself and I like it. So do ya wanna help? Make suggestions for backgrounds first, then elements. If I choose your suggestion and make it for the kit, you get the kit free!

Let's get started - but keep in mind due to copyright protection I won't be trying to duplicate her linens' patterns - only come up with something similar.

The most obvious suggestion is a background with stripes of the various colours perhaps in varying widths.

I am usually not a big fan of green, but I like this.
For backgrounds, I suggest:
- one of the greens with some kind of waffle texture
- also something with any kind of leaves stamped on a background (maybe tan with light green leaves)

A darker green with flecks or paint/glitter splatters of the lighter greens or ivory. :D

I love green :D

a white or off white "wrinkled" or creased paper.
A whitish paper with various shade of green very lightly stamped in your edgy, grungy swirlies.
A whitish paper with several rows of green stitching spaced across the page... or reverse it and to a dark green with rows of light green and white stitching.
A green waffle weave

a green canvas texture paper

What about a folded or twisted silk ribbon, where the darker green shade changes to a lighter green-gold when it changes direction ?

Raphne

ooooo, I love the muted neutrals in this! Except. . . my bed NEVER looks so neat!!!!

How about a fine cotton texture in the yellowish color worn through with the white?

An overlay that looks like stitching - in a leaf pattern design

Love these colors. I could sleep very well on these sheets...

The bigger "lined" leaves on the end of the pillow make me think of seersucker material, so maybe that green and white of those leaves in a seersucker stripe?

Something with a rough linen or raw silk look.

A solid with a few sporadic "stripes" in some type of "bead" or "chain"--perhaps embroidered?, similiar to that edging those little leaves running the length of the pillow.

Elisabeth

lol Raphne, she did mention that this was a brand new set! I wouldn't know what a neat bed looks like either were it not for the movies.

Those are some great suggestions, everyone - and I'll get started tonight - thanks! For now I gotta run out to my great-niece's birthday party - she turns the big ONE today! Fun!

micro wavy waffle diagonal leafy stripes

I'm so bad at background suggestions I just made that up to have something to say

Backgrounds first...hmmm... I'm always good for a grungy one with all these colors in it!

idtwinmom
09-05-2009, 07:00 PM
I would love to see a paper that has a stripe that is wavy instead of straight. I know it sounds crazy, but I almost think it would work in these colors!

Elisabeth
09-06-2009, 01:54 AM
I did the first two backgrounds - and thinking ahead to the finished product, I wonder if I should throw in one more color? Was thinking teal or melon... I mean I love this, but if I get stuck on the elements it might need a little pop.

sammdc

I am thinking a solid brown bg and maybe a white linen one with dirty edges

sammdc
09-06-2009, 07:56 AM
as for another colour what about a fuchsia

http://www.ifpo.net/pictureawards/65428.03.fushia.jpg

or cherry blossoms

TalyQ

I think the pink from the cherry blossom photo would look great.
A paper that would be gentle green and have the pink interwoven with it would look great.

Dani B
09-06-2009, 09:59 AM
Elizabeth, see that color on the top left corner of the photo, it looks like a rust color and that might work well with these colors. A solid rusty melon color might work. Cantalope, not sure if I spelled that right.

What great papers! (and smashing sheets!)
How about a hand-made paper texture? One with a plaininsh colour and flecks of the other colours in it. Not worried which colours...

idtwinmom

Love the papers! I ran the photo thru kuler and it pulled the burgandy from the bed post:

Oh, I like the burgundy with it Lisa.
Loving the papers Z. I wish I could peek into your brain and see what you're having in mind for this...it would make suggesting things much easier. ;)

sammdc
09-06-2009, 07:05 PM
of course you could make all the elements out of wood as in wood carvings wood frame maybe a dream catcher and or windchimes

Elisabeth
09-06-2009, 10:26 PM
Paula I wish *I* could see into my brain sometimes! But I like Carolyn's idea of wood.

I'll get back to work!

Elisabeth
09-07-2009, 01:01 AM
Cherry blossom color is exactly what I had in mind, just was calling it something else. So I nudged a little into the other 2 bgs very subtly.

Caro and jemtred, I tried a "dirty white natural flecked" bg but didn't like the finished one with the others - so took it out and added another green. So the four backgrounds are done as per suggestions from stitchmich, talyQ,webfrau, just-pjz, and Carolyn. I need element suggestions!

Y'all know what I am going to call this kit, right? "Caro-linens" or "Carolyn-ens" or some varied spelling thereof. I can't resist the silly pun.

Fabulous backgrounds.
Some stitching
A dark ribbon
Individual leaves - with skeletons
White(ish) flowers

Oh, and how can we improve on Julia's and Caro's ideas. Wood for frames, maybe a branch type element.

This is just lovely so far! (and I guess we would all love to see in your brain!)

TalyQ
09-07-2009, 02:39 AM
How about a fabric photo frame with at least two rows of stitching on it?

sammdc
09-07-2009, 03:49 AM
well i am definitely voting for something in wood hehe same stain as my furniture Z hahahah and some leaves sound like a great idea and some stitching all sorts love all Julia's suggestions

Beautiful papers!
I like that idea of a wood frame...perhaps with white and dark green ribbons wrapped around one corner.
Ribbons in white and green
What about a white blotchy paint circle?
A grungy looking silver brad or nail head
Some sort of white flower and leaves

bludlfn003
09-07-2009, 12:45 PM
What about some kind of embroidered wordart.
What about a circle frame

jemtred
09-07-2009, 12:57 PM
Don't worry Z I'm not at all offended you didn't use my suggestion! You are the designer here!!!
OK thinking wood - how about a woody edge or overlay/maybe twiggy? Or a frame made of twigs bound together with ribbons? Some more leaves - who can have too many leaves???

How about a journaling tag in either waffle or handmade linen paper with a rafia type loop thru the hole?

Shana34
09-07-2009, 02:37 PM
I love the backgrounds! How about a linen journaling paper with a leafy design on the edges?

Elisabeth
09-07-2009, 04:01 PM
Oh yeah - that's what I can use the nice natural background for - something for journaling! Because I really did like it; it was just too much white when I put it with the others....

I'm rearranging a shed today (or rather the stuff in it) but will be back to this tonight - thanks for all the great notes!

stitchmich
09-07-2009, 07:21 PM
Caro-linens! I love it! Too cute.
I'm thinking of stitching... either a rounded end square of stitching, kinda big like a border, or an edge of stitching, maybe with a row zigzag stitching between two rows of straight stitches.

Elisabeth
09-08-2009, 01:14 AM
I like the idea of stitches too but for right now here is the leafy branch with the dream catcher (two separate elements)

Shana34
09-08-2009, 01:54 AM
Those are awesome! How about a lone feather that we can place at the edge of a frame or underneath the top of the dreamcatcher?

TalyQ
09-08-2009, 02:04 AM
I think some regular white feathers scattered would be great - we still have feather filled pillows and comforters here, and whenever I make the bed or change the linens, some are flying around me =)

Folded or twisted ribbon
agree with request for wooden frame

idtwinmom
09-08-2009, 04:50 PM
Love the ribbon idea. What if you folded it back and forth in a zigzag so that it mimicked the leaves a little.

Elisabeth
09-08-2009, 11:31 PM
K, here's the wooden frame, only I inked it up behind for some funkiness. And the extra feathers.

I'm thinking I'd better get on the flowers now...

So I did, and here is the journaling thing too.

Don't you all think I need one more item with a little of the poppy colour too? Just two more things to go!

http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/7035/screenshot145c.jpg

TalyQ
09-09-2009, 02:28 AM
I think it needs some kind of pink ribbon - maybe grossgrain with some white or cream interwoven in it?

sammdc
09-09-2009, 04:23 AM
wowow Z this is looking awesome maybe some paint smears in the pink that you could also use to type date place etc on just like a faded paint stroke

stitchmich
09-09-2009, 07:20 AM
Looks awesome, Z!!! How about 2 or 3 rows of stitching in different colors.

domino44
09-09-2009, 09:01 AM
oh those are great, maybe a brown BG with gold flaecks

idtwinmom
09-09-2009, 01:27 PM
I think the pink would make a good ribbon! any way you want it, but looking it should go across the page not up and down!

Elisabeth
09-09-2009, 03:15 PM
I tried a ribbon, y'all - I just didn't care for it as I was working along.

I loved the paint splat idea! So here is the final - with plain messy stitching that you can recolor if you like. It's a couple of corners for those who don't use frames but want to stitch down the photo instead.

And now I'm going outside to take my nine photos on the ninth! So I'll be back with this later to package, upload, and send a link to those whose suggestions I used. Thanks!

I still loved my pun but it didn't represent the kit well - so since it has a dreamcatcher I called it Carolyn's Dream, instead.
