Slightly strange request but since we have so many people who know about design...:D

Our house has a space above the mantel that is 37 in high by 84 in wide. It is "enclosed" by wood, i.e., there are bookcases on either side and a bridge at the top.

For his birthday, my DH has asked me to frame some photographs I took at Big Sur (I'm so flattered!! :love2:) to put in that space above the mantel. He has chosen three pictures and is willing to use one, two or three of them for the space.

I think the dimensions he has in mind would allow for two framed photos but that doesn't seem right -- isn't a grouping usually made up of odd numbers? He's concerned that three framed pictures would be too small -- the man likes large photos and won't hear of my printing 8x8 LOs for him.

Would appreciate any help on number of framed photos to use, size, placement, types of frames, etc. Here are the pics he chose, one or all of which can be used:

84" is pretty wide. you could do all 3 16x20 and still have room left over. You don't say what dimensions he actually wants - just large.

They'd look great on canvas, too.

I can't see the detail on the photos, whenever I click a link, I get a message that the forum needs a password. But the thumbnails are gorgeous.

Would you consider cropping one into a panorama aspect? It would be cool to have one panorama and then two landscaped either above or below it.

You could also consider making a single triptych to fit into the space. This is a good article on selecting a composing photos for triptych (http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-select-and-compose-a-triptych-in-lightroom) There's a bunch of stuff on doing it in lightroom but you can ignore that if you don't use lightroom.

I would consult your framer about the frames and mats they really know their stuff and there is such a huge amount of materials you can use you really need an expert to show them off best. Take a photo of the space you want to hang them with you.

I think the thumbnails will work now. Knew I hadn't put a password--guess when they worked on the site any albums marked private are now given auto-generated passwords. I just make them private because they're my little storage areas. :love2:

Interesting about the canvas -- that's what he asked for. I think Lauren did a tutorial on preparing pictures for canvas -- will have to look.

Thanks so much for taking time to respond.

Ooo, the panorama with landscapes sounds interesting!! I just read all of your ideas to DH and his comment is, "Will they all show up from a distance?" Now, if I tell you that the "distance" from the fireplace to the other side of the room is about 12 ft, you'll see my problem with DH and dimensions.
