Confused about whether I have to Import in ACDsee

I am new to ACDsee Photo manager and bought it for the sole purpose of organizing my dig scrapbook supplies. I installed on my computer's hard drive but I keep all of my digital scrapbook files off of my computer and on an EHD. When I was reading the ACDsee startup guide it says to "import" my files. This is confusing me. I can see the folder tree of my EHD on the left side in the folder pan, so can't I just start tagging/categorizing. I don't want to copy or move the files in any way to my computer but it seems the instructions say I have to "import". I'm confused....
Anyone help set me straight. I have installed the software and have downloaded and setup an organizing style and am ready to start tagging/categorizing. Thanks in advance for your help.

You are right ... what specifically are you reading that says import? You should be able to just start organizing.

What I was reading was under the Help section of the software in the "Contents" section then "Getting Started" then "importing into ACDsee". That's why I was under the impression I had to some sort of import but maybe it's not necessary?

I don't think you do. I am guessing this would have referred to importing off of a memory card or the likes.
