Would you all like to go around a few times with me on baby boy names? Since we have yet to decide a name, I thought it might be fun to see what names you all like. :)
You can even do first and middle. :)

Hey Lisa, I'll play.
I really like Colt since I first heard about Colt McCoy.

I never had to consider boy's names...if we had a boy tradition demanded he be named after my husband...but I do like his name....Milan (pronounced My-Lan)

Or you could combine your name and your husbands name
My cousin Mylene got her name that way, her Dad's name was Myron and her Mom's name was Mylene
Of course that doesn't always work. If my parents had named me like that I would have been either Mydar or Darlo:eek::eek: and one of my kids could have been Murlee or Mule and the other would have been Leemur :rofl::rofl:
well, I think Tate is a fine name ;)

Boy names are hard. Obviously I quite like the names I chose for my boys. Other names that were on the short list the first time around were Alexander (Alex), Nathaniel (Nathan) and Devon. There was no list the second time around - we were much more decisive! We went with family names for the middle names.

I've always like Jordan or Joshua. Joshua's pretty common these days though. I have a friend who had a boy last year and they were considering family names and came up with George. We thought they were just kidding. NOT. But...he is real cutie and George kinda fits him. :)

Lisa -are you going for a common name or fairly uncommon. I love aidan but there are A LOT of them now. There are a lot of Cameron, Evan, Aidan, as well. I found boys names to be soooo much harder as they can't be too girly. Names are hard in general as it is something they will have for the rest of their lives ;) LOL

I'm partial to Aidan, myself. :D
I've always said the true test of a name is to stand on your backporch and yell it - first, middle, last. Because you're going to be doing that someday. If it sounds good yelled to the neighborhood, you're all set.

Adam
Alex - Alexander
Craig
I love male names that are simple. Easy to spell and pronounce. Ones that can't have an "ee" sound at the end (Bobby, Billy, Tommy). Classic.
Here are a few choices we have so far:
Corey Jacob
Aidan, Braylon, Cayson, Cameron, Ethan, Mason, Aaron, Evan
Anthony
Courtney
Elijah, Isaiah
Layne
Parker
Taylor
Travis
Zachary
You have a pretty good list going! If I could, I'd cross out Courtney - - that is a total girl name (at least around here)...and lots of famous women Courtney's as well. My cousin is Cameron - - so he gets called "Cam" and "Cam Man" a lot. I like it.
Adian, Cameron, Ethan, Mason...I like those a lot - common or not. I think my problem now is that, being a teacher, I get exposed to A LOT of names and therefore some are immediately off my list due to the child they are associated with in my mind! Evan, Travis, and Aaron would fall on that "never list" for me - - but not because of the name itself...just because of images of snot, germs, dirt, etc.! :) Which I guess is why you can't involve too many people in the picking of the name or else everyone wants to rule something out! :)
I've always like the common names of Jason and Eric. Here are some more:
Keith
Scott
Trenton
Blake
Matthew (but I think all those biblical names are way too common)
Spencer
Shane
Nathan
Colonel Mustard
Adam
Andre
Chris
I had a friend whose husband wanted to name is son Roc. Seriously. We all laughed when he told us - assuming it HAD to be a joke...it wasn't. Luckily, he didn't win that battle!
Make sure it sounds good with your last name too. That can be half the fun!!! We had some very interesting combinations for my brothers as jokes!

Also make sure the initials do not spell anything that the child would be picked on.
I do love the name Noah that was a favorite of mine ;) I too love biblical names.

We did think about biblical names, but I think I am leading more to the modern style names. My dh isn't, but I can convince him. :) Right now, my favorite is Cayson. It seems to change daily. :)

All I have to say is I am jealous you are working on this! I'm 27 weeks along (a couples weeks ahead of you, I think), and know it is a girl, and somehow we just can't get motivated to "work" on names!

When my beloved and I were discussing names, shorter variations were always in the front of our mind. We quite liked Aiden - but didn't want a kid going through school being called Aids. We also considered (for about a minute) Randall until we realised that Randy would be a definite non starter (I know it is a common name in the US but it has quite a rude meaning here!) Personally, I probably lean towards more traditional names for boys.

I suffer from Orange Sue's teacher problem and always associate the names with a kid I have taught. I like simple, old fashioned names for boys (mine is Jack) and I like them short, firm and definitely yellable!! We considered Zack for a while which I also really like but my Grandad was Jack so there it is. I like George too so after all that I don't think I'm going to be mush help on your search for a modern name!
A slight digression (you may not want to take me up on these suggestions!) here are some of the names of boys I teach right now - Prince (I also teach an Angel!), Blessings, Happiness, Patience, Mwayi (means good luck), Obedience, Hopeson, Hendry (I quite like that one), Gift, Fortune and I could go on!

oh wow jemtred! You certainly have a different variety of names! :) I really thought hard about naming him something meaing miracle or something along that line, but when it all boils down to it, it has to be something I know he will love, too. :) Corey means God's Peace, which is one of our top 5 names. Baby naming is fun. Baby naming is stressing. :)

Yeah, I am a little over 24 weeks pregnant. That's cool that we will be having our babies so close together. My due date is Feb 18th, but my family are all already taking cracks of when his actual date will be. :) They are so strange. They are guessing his date, weight, name... every thing. :)
When is your due date?
It's funny. I have no inkling to prepare his room just yet. I am so scared something will happen. I don't want to have to come home to a nursery if the worse were to happen. I am extremely excited, but I KNOW from my own history how hard that can be. Are you working on your child's room? What's your theme going to be?

Official due date is January 12th. We'll see where we end up!
I swore I wasn't going to make everything for this baby's room (like I did for Delaney's room) and thought I had found something that would be a great starting place, and hubby was good with it on paper. But then he saw the actual stuff in the store and didn't like it at all. Not just no opinion, or a shrug of the shoulders, but he disliked it. So, back to the drawing board.
I'm not a huge fan of over the top pastel, way too cutesy, or overly themed rooms, and really wanted to come up with a room that we all won't be tired of by her first birthday. So, I visited one of my favorite quilt shops, and the first thing that popped at me, I just knew it was perfect. The ironic thing to me is, the fabric collection is by Basic Grey (paper scrap company) - with rich purple, pink and green colors. More elegant designs/patterns, but still a baby, girl, child friendly color palette. So I have started sewing bumpers (yes, I will use them - they are quite firm, and will have many ties to be secure), crib skirt and a simple valance for the window. I have some ideas for a mural on the wall so will work on that next. And I wonder why I haven't scrapped in October!
A block of fabric that shows the colors:

If we were having a boy, I would have done a "Where The Wild Things Are" type room ... simple colors for bedding, but probably painted a scene on the wall. I would have done that for Delaney's room if she had been a boy, so it isn't really because of the movie.
I can't imagine how hard it would be to work on a nursery, and have something happen and not have a baby in it. So very sad. I can understand why you would want to just wait. And as a friend keeps reminding me, the baby won't know the difference.

I really like Quinn.
Quinn is on my list of names for the kid I'm never having! LOL!
My grandfathers middle name was Quincy, so that's where it comes from- and for a boy or girl.
Ella is also on the list b/c my grandmothers maiden name was Ellis
Emerson is on there b/c of the writer. I'd do Emerson for either, but DH would never allow a girl to have that name ;)
I've always like Spencer.

I love your color palette. I also love that you make your kids decor on your own. That's totally awesome. I could barely sew a straight line, let alone make a bedding set. I sure wish I could. I think I have pretty much decided on a theme. At first, we were going with Animal safari. I really love the giraffe and lion. Right now, we are leading toward doing a neutral color theme. The colors are greens, browns, yellow and beige. The theme is still animals, but bears instead of african safari. I had actually found a great monkey set I liked but can't seem to find any coordinates for it. I even thought about doing a light blue snoopy character theme, but it's more cutesy than I want to go. :)
The one thing I wish I knew how to make was quilts. When I was younger, my grandma would make quilts for each special moment we would have. I'd love for him to have a quilt made with fabrics I have. I've thought about getting one made for him, but they are soooo expensive.
So, naming...
we are on Cayson Anthony, Cayson Jermaine, or Corey Jacob. :) or maybe christopher or cayson Jaime It may still change. :)

Jackson Riley
Alexander Craig
Ethan Reed
Funny story about nicknames. My older son's name is Anton. At the time, my mother insisted he would be called *Tony*. The boy's father said he would NOT! The first letter (yeah, back in those days, we still wrote letters! :D) we received from Grandma had a reference in it to *Tony*. My DH circled it in red and mailed it back to her. That was the first and only time anyone ever tried calling him *Tony*. So, you can keep a nickname from happening.

We went with a fairly simple and common name for our son. I didn't want people shortening his name to something I hated and I didn't want a name that could be used for a girl, and I didn't want a name that was funky/new/trendy. I wanted an ordinary normal name that I liked, that he would like throughout his life (I hope) and would sound okay when he's a full grown adult. I liked Kevin cause it is a cute name while he was a baby, it's cute while he's a teen and as a full grown adult it will be masculine.
I use to imagine what a man 50+ years old would sound/look like when he says his name, if it's some off the wall name.
I really prefer traditional type names. All my nephews have trendy names. But that is because their parents are trendy and snooty... oh wait, did I just say that? LOL!

Your colors and ideas sound great. Years ago we were house shopping in Indianapolis, and almost bought a house that had a animal/safari'ish baby room that I just loved. I swear I had photos of it, but I can't find them. I loved that it was a clearly a baby room, but also used more grown-up things to make the room complete, comfortable and practical.
I'm not sure how I learned to sew. I have taken one sewing class in my life (7th or 8th grade), and during that class made a patchwork pillow (I still remember the corners didn't match up perfectly and it really bugged me), a mini-skirt for myself, and a maternity dress for my step mother (I am sure it was awful). At one point I am sure I knew how to "read" a pattern, but now I just make a mess of them! I can piece together things and they look good, but I am sure a "real sewer" would look at some of the things and really question how I did something. And zippers, they make me want to run and hide!
If you really want a quilt, go to a local quilting shop and ask if they can suggest anyone to do a simple baby quilt (assume you are talking about something for a stroller blanket, or to throw over a chair and use on the floor, not a full/twin sized quilt), or maybe find someone who is selling baby things at a local craft show and ask if they could do something with fabrics you pick out.
We have, in no particular order:

Well, I am Kathleen, and for as long as I can remember, have always corrected people who presume to shorten my name to Kathy. I can look someone in the face, introduce myself as Kathleen, and their response is "nice to meet you Kathy." It just doesn't fly, and I let people know.
When we were working on names for Delaney, one of the "requirements" was that it should be a name that is meant to be her name, not for example Cynthia if we wanted to call her Cindy. We thought Delaney was pretty nickname proof. Within hours of her being born, we get moved to the postpartum area of the hospital, and the new nurse comes in to get us settled and asked what we named her. We tell her Delaney, and she immediately says "will you call her Laney?" You can imagine my response was less than pleasant.
If you would have asked me 6 or 7 years ago if would be a challenge to name a baby, I would have thought nah, piece of cake... boy, was I wrong!

lol That brings another story to mind. (We all know I'm full of them! ;)) When I first met my DH, he called his son, who was 29 yrs old at that time *Timmy*. So I asked, "How old does he have to be before you stop calling him "Timmy"?" His response: "That's his name".      Well, it's not, it's actually *Timothy*, but to this day EVERYONE still calls him *Timmy* and he's 49. Sounds so dumb to me.....but then, who am I?

We looked every where around town! I seem to recall that this house was in Carmel, but on the east side. I can see the entrance to the subdivision, but can't remember the name. Houses that we really liked seemed to get nicknames, and this one was we called 'the football players house' - it was either a Colts player, or there was a very football themed basement, not sure I remember which. Would have been 2002.

Fran, I have a hard enough time agreeing on a name with just the hubby, I can't imagine 5 people agreeing on a name. We have a "policy" about baby names... we only talk about them with each other, because we don't want other opinions influencing us.

I found names really easy as I decided I only had to please myself!!!! My very agreeable hubby just said "yes". Fortunately my 2 came with a name already which I just happened to like so I have Jack (my grandfathers), William (my father-in-law), Mphatso (name he already had meaning Gift) which is a lot of names for one child but I like lots of names! (My daughter is Thea - I like it , Chisomo -name she already had meaning Grace, Rose -after the person who started the orphanage and the person who told us she was available.) Naming babies is such fun that I now have a reputation for it and was even asked to name a colleagues grandson!! I chose Jonathan but I have no idea why!!!!
