Hi... My name is Carol and I live in Truro, Nova Scotia. I am a graphic designer of 20+ years and a proficient user of CorelDraw and CorelPhoto paint of over 15 years. I've tried all the other programs out there and have always come back to CorelDraw for everything I design. (sorry...had to put that in there for Corel's defence LOL). I tried digital scrapbooking years ago when it first became popular and of course with my background of years in graphic design (yup...started before there were computers) there was virtually no learning curve for me. I got away from it when I started designing wire jewellry and then went back to paper scrapbooking to design gift bags for my jewelry. I have recently been inspired to get back to designing digitally so I logged on to the internet to see what's new in the digital scrapbooking world. Digital Scrapbooking Place is the first site I went to and I had a look around and loved what I saw...it looks like a very friendly place so I think my search is over. I am happy this is the first place I found....now I gotta get busy digi scrapping again!:yahoo:

Hi, Carol, welcome to DSP ... so glad you have found us! It is a great place to be inspired and make some friends too!

Sounds like we have a similar start with CorelDraw, I think I started with version 2 in the early 90s! I was/am self-taught, and do pretty well in it. I do still use it occasionally, but I am probably 95% PhotoShop now.

Sounds like with your background, digital scrapbooking is a perfect and natural fit for you! I am going to give you a bunch of links, most of which I am guessing you don't need, but just in case!

A few tutorials (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/tutorials.shtml) you might find helpful if you haven't found them already (lots available in The Campus, but these are great to get you started):

Completing Your First Paper-Style Page [PS (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../university/tutorials/pscs3_firstlayout_ag/pscs3_firstlayout_ag.shtml)] [PSE (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../university/tutorials/pse_firstlayout_ag/pse_firstlayout_ag.shtml)] [PSP (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../university/tutorials/psp_completefirstLO_ny/psp_completefirstLO_ny.shtml)] [DIP (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../university/tutorials/dip_firstlayout_tc/dip_firstlayout_tc.shtml)]

Uploading your scrapbook page to the DSP Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../university/tutorials/general_uploadGallery_ep/general_uploadGallery_ep.shtml)

A bit of information about DSP ... There are forums (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/) (that is where we are now) where you can get to know people, ask questions, participate in challenges; a gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../gallery/) filled with layouts posted by other members where you can find all kinds of inspiration, and you can post your own creations to share with the community (and get comments and constructive criticism if you want to help build your skills, or get stuck on a page); and of course a store (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/) (requires separate registration from the forums and gallery) brimming with all kinds of goodies that will keep you scrapping for years!

The Freebie Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../gallery/index.php?cat=738), has all kinds of stuff you can download to get started.

Digital Scrapbook University (DSU) (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/classes.shtml) offers some great classes, from just getting started, all the way through more advanced techniques. Depending on what kind of a learner you are, one of these might be a great place to start. Digital Scrapbooking 101 (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/Scrapping101/basics.shtml) has some good information on available programs to choose from and other basics to get you started.

Feel free to ask questions, there is always someone who can help! I look forward to seeing your creations in the gallery!

Thanks for making me feel all warm and fuzzy and welcome here. I'm not very
good in forums and get lost easily to please correct me if I put things in wrong places. I'm working on my first layout and being the perfectionist I am...it's taking me longer than I hoped...it's been awhile too and I need to get use to "what's new" in digital scrapbooking...I'm a little rusty :o)

I still revert back to Corel for a lot of things as well. I started in embroidery and screen printing design set up so this was pretty easy for me to get into as well.

I hope you are enjoying the community here at DSP!
