I downloaded all of the vp subsets into my Adobe PS plugins folder.
Now I'm wondering:
I know that to use these subsets when VP is running, I need to click "load" then click on the subset/filter I want and it will run it. However, is there anyway to save these subsets in the Presets drop-down menu so that they show up and are included with all of the default presets, so as to avoid constantly loading these subset filters one by one to see the effects? This may sound stupid, but is that what the "Save" button is for, next to "Load"? If I hit Save, will it then be included with the default presets?
It just gets so tedious to constantly have to "load" each and every time I want to see the effects of a different filter in a subset.

Unfortunately, no.
The "save" is if you make a custom subset. Then you would have to "load" it just like the others.

I have another question regarding this plugin, and I hope it doesn't sound too idiotic - I may very well have inhaled too many paint fumes in my office ...
I have VP open and have chosen an effect in my Presets dropdown menu. I don't like the preview of it, so I want to try another. Do I have to return to the "default" preset (my original, unfiltered image), before choosing another effect?
In other words, will any subsequent preset I choose be automatically applied to the original image (even though my preview screen shows my filtered image), or will any subsequent preset I choose be applied to my already filtered image (what is currently in my preview screen?)
I tried a bunch of different presets, but I just can't tell whether it's being applied to the original image or the already filtered image.
Am I making any sense?

Now I'm going to ask a dumb question Andy... I've got VP, what subsets are you referring to? When I installed it, I don't recall anything as subsets... boy am I feeling dull.

I'd like an answer to the same question Susan asked. I have this filter set. Haven't used it much, but think I probably will. But what presets?

Susan & Starling: I was referring to the Presets dropdown menu included with VP - it lists the effects that came with VP when you downloaded it (not the additional subsets that you can download and then have to "load" them into VP to use them). It's right beside your image preview screen in VP, right above "film type". In the dropdown menu, there are 23 presets under "COLOR" and 31 of them under "B/W". I'm just wondering if I always have to return to the "default" preset (1st one in the dropdown menu) before applying another preset to my image.

OK, now I understand what you were asking. I guess I always assumed you had to go back to the preset, but when I'm playing around today I'll look more closely.

You do not need to go back to the default when scrolling for the effect you want.
Nanasdinky, I use PSP and VP and have not had one iota of trouble (not like my troubles with downloading brushes) - have you gone to File>Preferences>File Locations to browse for the program to plug it in?
If you have and it's still not working, I do not have additional advice. Sorry.
