Help with Saving Elements

I am sure this will be covered in my April PSE creating digital elements class, but perhaps someone can quickly answer this question for me. When I am saving an element I created how do I save it so that the background remains transparent? When I save it as a JPEG it automatically flattens the layers and then makes my canvas area white instead of transparent? Any help would be appreciate.

I'm no expert, but I think if you save the element as a png file, it retains the transparency.

yep, Save As then choose PNG. And yes, it is covered, but in 361 :) Screen shots and everything. But not hard to do, enjoy making your kit!
