View Full Version : Do you still paper scrap?
I have just started this digital scrapbooking and can't decide what to do about paper scrapping. I have all the supplies and I still love to do it. However whenever I am thinking about my scrapbooks lately I am thinking digital! What has everybody done about their paper scrapbooking supplies and albums? What kind of projects do you still do with paper scrapping? Or have you decided to abandon it and cut the costs now?

Well, I really don't paperscrap...Actually I never really did...I have tons of supplies but I was always to nervous about screwing up that I didn't take it anywhere....I do however use all those supplies for making my party invitations & cards & such...but I'm also moving more towards digital on that too...I'm thinking maybe ebay? Not sure.....All I know is that they are collecting dust right now :p

i have tons of paper scrapping supplies and tools. all i ever did was collect the stuff. I made two pages and they suck. I do still use the paper for cards. I will most likely stick to making my scrap pages digitially though. You say that you enjoying scrapping with paper, no reason why you can't do both!

I have a whole dresser full of paper scrapping supplies. I have just now gotten all of them organized. But Im planning on using them to make cards, thank you notes, etc. But as far as scrapbook pages- Im 100% digital!
Margie!!! Send it my way! LOL!!
Yes, I still paper scrap, and probably always will. It's something I honestly cannot give up. I love the feel, the smell, the shopping ;)
My paper scrapbooks are cronological books, while my digital pages are just whatever. My digi pages are truly a creative outlet where I can step outside of those bounds that are set by paper and glue.
I love both crafts and consider them 2 very different things :)
(and at this point I have been published far more times with paper layouts than digi.. its 6 to 12 I think)

I would like to finish my sons paper albums but just can't get into the mood again. Every time I do I am not where I can paper scrap, funny huh!?
I am right now putting all my paper scraping supplies I don't use and haven't in a long time on Ebay. I am a stamping consultant so I have tons of stamps, that still doesn't get me in the mood. So my goal is to finish all my paper scraping with in a two years(I have a lot to do). Then I will be done with all paper scrapbooking.

Never have.. never will.. LOL
Who needs all that mess??
Actually have been into digital for a long time now and with little hands pulling things off my desk all the time I would never get anything done on paper...
Now as long as I can keep track of my cordless mouse (that red light is very tempting for little people) I'm all set!
I draw inspiration from paper scrappers and buy the magazines, but that's as close to paper as I get...

I'm like some of you tho and feel much more "flow" and creativity with digital. Still, paper calls to me and I too love the little books and different things, accordion books etc. And there are people in my life who don't have a computer YET!!...it's fun to do both but sometimes hard to transition between the two! :p

Ive never really paper scrapped but actually I do feel the calling sometimes - I would love to do things that are interactive like pull out journalling and flip out books etc but no time, no patience and a preschooler and 2 school age kids who would pinch my supplies for their own craft work mean I will probably stick with the puter - ( I do also buy the mags for the inspiration tho!!) - FUnny, but I Rarely get inspiration from looking at digital layouts!!!)

great question! I love paper and working with real materials I don't think I could give up traditional scrapbooking, It's just too rewarding a craft for me, although I can say the same about digital scrapping and all the other great things I love to make on the computer. I also merge the two, but might do less of that with the discovery of PSP, and this site ... now if I can convince my husband that we neeeeeed a printer capable of 12x12 and borderless printing

I do mostly digital now but once in a while I pull out my stash and do some pages. I still have printed photos I want to put in albums but once I am done with those I don't think I will do much paper scrappin.

I still love my paper, and it's a good thing since I probably have a 20 year supply of paper and stuff! tons of stuff! That's what happens when you work in a scrapbook store, you know? You have to buy every new thing that comes out - now, if I could only find the time...
Anybody have any of that for sale???

I love to paper scrap! I just started both paper scrapping and digi scrapping this past Christmas. I've been a paper "freak" all of my life and get so much joy out of sitting at the table scrapping. I always thought scrapbooking was just putting stickers on and around photos (that's how my younger Sister scraps) and I had no interest in it all......then I stumbled upon some scrapbook supply websites and saw papers that made me drool, been hooked since LOL

I still paper scrap. In my albums, I mix both types together. I can only print 8X10 but recently started doing 12X12 and print at 8X8. I use 12" books so I have to put the layout on cardstock. I coordinate the paper with the layout. I usually use glitter or extra journaling or 'whatever' along the edges. I even use both types side by side as long as the theme & colors blend well.

There is nothing better then sitting down with my sister and doing a page the old way but I tend to mix them also. I would tell you to keep your stuff and if you have any kids it will be a memory for them if they can help you or make there own.

I do still paper scrap.
I got back into digital scrapping when I saw a friend's wedding album--it was kind of like collage style, but no embellishments or words or titles--and it was all digital, done by the photography company. So I started my wedding album this way because I was SO overwhelmed by all the pictures, paper scrapping seemed like it would take months and months. It really helped me break my block.
I also make paper piecings to sell on a certain popular auction site ;) and I make them for my grandmother-in-law, who I've helped start her own scrapbook. She doesnt have the talent yet to do her own pages but I help her choose colors and accessories, and I do a lot of the gluing for her since she has arthritis.

Oh, I still do some paper scrapping! I just love the "stuff" you can use on your pages. However, I really like this digi scrapping and find myself combining it with the traditional stuff. I will do a layout on the computer, then I might add "real" fibers or eyelets or something before I slip it into that page protector! It is hard to give up those lumps and bumps on my pages, but I find digiscrapping more convenient for me (can carry the laptop everywhere)! :D

I could never give up my paper scrapping! I do digital a lot now but only because I moved recently and didn't have access to my supplies. I can't wait to set up my new scrapping area and dig into the papers and embellishments like before. Sure, I'll continue to do digital, but it will never be my main form of scrapbooking.
At the moment I use it to do my daughter's first year as I didn't scrap then and those photos were just placed on plain white cardstock and added to her baby book. I also do my digital pages in 8 x 10 and my paper layouts in 12 x 12, so experimenting with different sizes is a nice bonus at times.
I think that the more you learn about digiscrapping, the more you will use it, even if just combined with paper.
Then again, I have other "tactile" hobbies, so really don't feel a need for the paper scrapping, especially since my digi layouts are a lot less...um...ugly than my paper ones!
Someday when my kids are older and we are more settled housewise, I'd actually like to do paper scrapping again with all the new tricks I've learned. I wonder if I'll ever do it!
Welcome, saltiest! Hope you love it here and that we make a full convert/addict of you yet! LOL! :p

I've really enjoyed this thread. I have not paper scrapped since I started digital but it has nothing to do with the digital really. The space for paper scrapping is tied up right now. I keep thinking I will continue with both but the more I do digital the more I wonder! My plan had been to do paper with the pictures up to 2003 when we went digital and then do digital from then on. But last night as we were going through photos from the late 80's and early 90's I kept seeing pictures and picturing wonderful layouts - that could only be done digital! Hmmmm I don't know what I'll do. But it may be more like someone mentioned on this thread earlier - I may do the chronologial part in paper but do special pages digitally.
We've been on a very special vacation each of the last two years to the same place. The first year I have printed pictures and the second year are digital. I am thinking about scrapping one vacation in paper and doing the other digitally. Since the pictures are similar I thought it might help me decide what I want to do in the future. Don't know if I'll really do it but it's my current thought!
The big draw for digital is the space, clean-up and portability! I've done pages while riding in the car, waiting for children in swim lessons, and I could do it outside on a breezy day!
Wow! I've sure said alot - wonder if it made sense! LOL
Mary Ellen, you are SO right about the clean up. My family room floor is currently plastered in paper supplies. Yes, I'm scrapping right now (just came up to print my journaling).

We just took a 3-week Europe trip and have 2000 digital pictures. Honestly the only way I can see to scrap this (even after I only pick the best pictures) is to get a common background color and coordinating mat and embellishments and just blast through it. We took nearly the exact same trip 19 years ago, and I was thinking of doing that one in paper and the later trip digitally just to see how it worked out.
My dilemma is that I question myself every time I scrap about whether I should be doing 8.5x11 (which is all I have done in paper so far) or 12x12 (no paper storage issues with digital). I just can't make up my mind, and I don't scrap in order, I jump all over the place. Hmmm.

I paper scrap as well as computer scrap.
Paper scrapping for me is usually a communal project. My sisters and I did memory albums for Dad and our aunt for Grandma's memorial service. And one sister and a friend and I work together on albums for our guild at Renaissance and Dickens faires. We share supplies and tools and we each have our own strengths. Besides, it's a lot of fun working with others on the same project and we get very silly together. We wouldn't be able to work like that on the computer.
