Designer Edges on Shapes

Can anyone help me apply a "designer edge" to a shape? I receive the "to apply this effect you must select a picture" when I have a square shape selected and then try to apply a designer edge. Even if I load a picture and then fill it with texture/color, it thinks it's not a "picture". I've also tried grouping with no success. I have tried applying the edge to a picture and then filling the picture with a solid color, however, the "fill" always pixelates the edges.

Not sure what version you are using but im supplying step by step for DIP10

Insert/shape/square
Right click shape/change shape or line/fill with colour of choice
Select shape/Effects/Edges/Designer
Select any edge of choice/next/next - all done!!!

Hi Angie
Steps for Picture It 9 designer edges.
Create shape/select fill/chose colour.
Select Edges/Stamped Edges
Select Stamping Style/select a stamp.
NOTER: Blue bead type edges will give coloured examples for designer edge.
Red bead and postage stamp edges will give shadow type edges.
