Erica’s Going Grunge Challenge May

Nominated product: Loves Gift (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_18&products_id=12087), Loves Gift 2 (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_18&products_id=12102) or Loves Gift Value Collection (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_18&products_id=12112). You can use any combination of these kits or a single one to create your layout.

Challenge Instructions:

Using the Tutorial as a guide, create your take on my example of creating some Grungy Word Art.
Use any combination of the nominated kits, single of bits from either of them to create a finished LO using your Word Art as the title.
In the comment part of your upload, please tell us what blend modes you used if any to complete your Word Art Title.

Download the tutorial here (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../freebies/Erica/GrungyChallenge/Tutorial_CreatingGrungyWA.pdf)

If you're having trouble downloading the tutorial try this link... (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../freebies/Erica/GrungyChallenge/Tutorial_CreatingGrungyWA.zip) It seems that some may not be able to download a PDF directly, this link is a zipped file.

Really simple rules:

You can complete as many layouts as you want but at least one has to be in the Erica's Going Grunge Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/../gallery/showgallery.php?cat=7721) and if it’s doing double/triple duty elsewhere I will need a link to your LO in this forum as I need to find you to make comments.

You can use other designer’s products in conjunction with the nominated product. Only DSP products please - nominated product or other.

If anything is not clear please just ask any questions here and have fun finding your inner grunge.

Very Cool tutorial Erica! Thanks!

Okay - this one doesn't count for the tutorial. I love the kit & couldn't resist making this layout with it. It's not grungy though. I'll have to do another for that.

Debi, she doesn't say that you have to have Poster Bodoni, just a similar large chunky font. but I did find it here:

Here's my try.
I couldn't use the overlay from the March tut. It's pretty hard to translate that one, but I'll sure will try to figure out how it works.
Instead of that overlay I used the mesh that's in the kit. Hope that's okay.

I'm simply amazed as you look in the Erica's grunge gallery - how many different ways there are to use these kits..

And, I personally did a very soft wedding one.. in very soft blue - not grunge at all.

so, I guess what I'm saying Erica, is that this is a very versatile VC...

Erica I am having dificulty with this step:
"using the overlay select all, copy and paste into the word
art, this will create additional texture"..This is when the overlay is in CS3 right? I am not finding ..select all, copy and paste

Erica
05-23-2010, 01:15 PM
Yes I am talking about opening the overlay into CS3 first - I hope this image of the steps to take to add this grungy layer to your word art helps Lisa :) Remember that actual letters of the WA still needs to have the marching ants around it. Just let me know if this isn't clear and you need more help with it :)

FYI: that step caused issues for me too. Doing that caused me to loose my Type mask (the dancing ants went away) which meant I didn't have the outline to mask the overlay. Two solutions: 1. Do the copy/paste before you ever start your type mask and turn off visibility of that layer until you are ready for it. Make sure it stays as the top layer. 2. Create a fill layer of your text and turn off visibility. Import your overlay and to reactivate the dancing ants by CTRL Click on the thumbnail for that fill layer. Both work although the first requires fewer steps and layers.

I'm using CS4, BTW. It might be different in other versions or programs.

One of the nice new features of CS5 is that you can have Say that overlay IN YOUR Document - do a

SELECT ALL

COPY

AND A PASTE INTO THE SAME DOCUMENT

OR LAYOUT

HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!!

That does sound like a good feature!! Thanks Debbie I can see I'm going to have to get this fabulous new software, I'm hearing such a lot of good things about it :D You can paste into from the same doc in cs3 too but you would have to deselect the WA (which we need to keep selected), to select the OL and then reselect the WA which is doable but as the WA is grungy there may be parts missed in the re-selection. :)

This is a bit late for several reasons. For some reason when I transfered the layout to my desktop (PS is on my laptop and the photos were not) PSP would only open the PSD as a flattened image so adding the photos required selecting, cutting and a good deal of erasing.I persevered however and finished it, but in the process I've forgotten the name of the font:
