I switched to Windows 7 earlier this month and am still getting used to it.

In XP, I looooooooooooved that when I chose to view folders as icons, I could see a picture of what was inside on the front of the folder, kwim? In a photo folder it was the first photo, so in my page kits it was always the jpg preview of a page kit. Then when you are glancing at them all, it is easy to see what they are.

In Win7 the folders are semi open and you can see papers sticking out....which does not help when looking at hundreds of page kits, and you have to click on them ALL and open them to go through them and decide which one you want to use for a layout.....

So is there a way to change this? I've been through all the options I can think of, more than once!!!!

I don't know Windows 7 at all (my daughter has it and I cringe when she brings it home from college and says "mom, can you help me figure X out?", because I have lost my touch with Windows) ... but, what about putting all of your previews for each kit into one big folder, then you would only have to open the Preview Folder and flip through that?

I use Bridge to manage and view all my stuff, so the only way I can think of to do it easily in a regular windows file structure is to do as I mentioned above, for me that would be easiest... I think. Hmm.

I have a folder called Contact Sheets in which I place a shortcut to the preview page of each kit. The view in the folder is set to thumbnails, which displays the preview pages so I can see all of them in one folder. When I click the shortcut, it goes directly to the preview page. I also have a folder for each designer, in which I place shortcuts to the preview pages of their kits. Makes it very easy to see everything I have by a particular designer. By using shortcuts, I don't have duplicates of any files and can organize the files by type (kits, templates, backgrounds, etc.).

Here's a way: When you open the main folder with all your kits, type d*.jpg in the search box at the top and you should see all the kit previews. If it doesn't show the ones in subfolders, go to organize, folder and search options, search and make sure the one talking about subfolders is checked.

I did a search and found this - not sure if this helps?

Initially I used this feature in XP, but found it so easily got "messed up" - moving a folder etc - so gave up. Of course when I got Win 7 didn't miss it!

Thanks for your help!!
