I knew that looked so familiar... one of my favourite kits. I really have to reorganize all my LB kits though, it's getting hard to find anything. I ended up putting them by year so the folders would open faster but now I have to try and remember when it was made instead of just opening one big folder to see all the previews.

Well it was one of the cheaper dentists vistis Ive had Jean - he xrayed and prodded and tapped and declared he couldnt see anything wrong with the tooth - and that the root canal looked sound. He said the root does go right into my sinuses and he thinks its a sinus issue and not a tooth issue. Thats a lot cheaper ( but not easier) to fix - and its an ongoing issue with me - but Im not convinced that its sinus myself - Ive had tooth pain from sinuses before and this doesnt feel the same - however he said if I still have pain in a week he will prescribe some antibiotics - I think I will probably just go to the doctor on Monday and get some from her because she can prescribe stronger ones than him. - though if it is sinus I suspect its viral and wont really help anyway - however if I do have a small infection at the base of the root that he couldnt see the antibiotics should hopefully fix it - temporarily anyway.....
Jeanrx
07-09-2011, 08:42 PM
Whew! That's great, Lauren, although it's not nice to have trouble with your sinuses. Maybe she can give you something to relieve the inflammation.
Lauren
07-10-2011, 03:43 AM
I wish i was as convinced as him that its not the tooth. I suspect i shall be back to him before long but i shall hopefully get some antibiotics from the doctor tomorrow.

Hope all goes well Lauren. Whether it's the tooth or your sinus, both I know are not pleasant to deal with.
I have to have all my wisdom teeth pulled out, well it's recommended. I have not had any issues with pain since earlier this year. My sinus issue is not bad just annoying to deal with. :annoyed:

I've had my grandson Gabriel, with me all week, his mom and dad went to Washington DC for vacation. He has been quite fun, he is 2 and a half and mostly cooperative. I really am going to miss him, he leaves later tonight. In the meantime, DH has gone on a fishing trip and I will be alone the rest of the weekend. Ahh what to do with all that peace and quiet. but FIRST I must turn off my phone....:p

I wish it was that warm here- Im a hot weather person myself - I tend to get a bit down in the winter - but its a lovely day today - not super warm but Im sitting on my deck reading in the sun in between working - - Im sure that will make me feel much better.
Also we are off out tomorrow to an island off the coast here which Ive always wanted to visit and photograph http://www.tiritirimatangi.org.nz/ - its quite expensive to get to but I got a half price deal on the ferry tickets so we are using them tomorrow.
LOL..yes Lauren, I am a warm weather person myself. Everyone has been saying "I can't wait for winter", but I can.
What a wonderful place to visit and to have available to visit. We don't live near anything but zoos, we are rather landlocked. It looks like an amazing photo opportunity, which I know you will take advantage of. I can't wait to see the pix.
And I love to sit outside in the swing and read when it's nice. Or watch the storms, that's pretty calming, too.
Have a great time at Tiri tomorrow!

I absolutely hate winter! I can tolerate it until Christmas, but after that it's so depressing. Everyone's complaining about the heat, but I can tolerate it in A/C haha.
My DD bought some frames & guess who is doing the pictures! She bought one with 12 little circles for Kaitlynn's first year. I finally finished today & she had better like them. Luckily I just organized all my pictures that are on disks, so they weren't too hard to find
Have a great time on your trip, Lauren. Looking forward to more beautiful pictures.

I bet she likes the photos Jean!! Michelle hamner is on my to do list .. Maybe next year ... Hope you got some good photos .I took 450 today !!! Kakariki (another first for me) 5 takahe!!of which apparently only 200 exist.( got some good shots) and stitch backs and if course tui galore .
Sounds great Lauren, I'll bet you still got some very good photos. I enjoyed looking through the birds listed on their website. I can't wait to see your pix.
I mowed the yard yesterday (Saturday)....not much fun, but job done!
My grandson has gone home, so was kind of lonely, but DH will be back this evening.

Ive had a fairly productive day but still have so much on my to do list - but I did complete 2 layouts ( speedscrap ) and started 2 kits ( one gimme a clue and one other ) - did my 2 monthly tax return and did some administration work . - but I didnt get a walk in which was on my list for today - darn it... if I wasnt already late starting dinner I would go now
I woke to a thunderstorm this morning....so nice :)
Not much on my list today, DH is working out of town, so have some time to myself. I need to scrap a couple of pages though, perhaps after another cup of coffee :D

I'm going to try and get out today for an hour or so . Fathers day here is next Sunday and I need to pick up some gifts ( not that I have a father but I will be buying for Steve and my FIL.) I got some things off my list yesterday but still a lot to go so I may not get time to get out tho.
I got out for a bit today....I didn't plan to, but the power went out. After about an hour of roaming around the house, I went to town, had a French soda and stopped and got some milk. Power was on when I got home. YAY!

We don't have any yet (thank goodness). It was in the 90s today, and extremely humid. But winters in Illinois can have nasty snows, and having a hubby who has to plow it makes it a dirty word.

Hi everyone.
Just a query ... I have been on the Arts Cow site trying to make my very first photobook ... but I'm really having trouble working out how to do it. Are there any tutorials on how it all works?

Chardonnay
09-07-2011, 08:09 PM
Well ... I originally thought that an Album was a Photobook but now I don't think that's right. Is the album just where you put your photos? If so, I'll go ahead and put in all my layouts, then perhaps ask you for more help with positioning them in the Photobook.
sandygb
09-08-2011, 03:08 AM
I think the album is just the place where you upload all your photos (or layouts) to. You can then drag those photos/layouts from your album to the photobook you are creating.
Chardonnay
09-08-2011, 06:15 PM
Thanks - I've managed to make an Album!
But yesterday I started putting the pics into an photobook and today I can't find that photobook and it looks like I've got to start over again - any idea where I can find it?
And I remember Lauren saying something about making a black border round her layouts for a photobook because of the ‘bleed’ area. But do you make a bigger background to fit the whole bleed area, with your 8 x 8 layout in the middle, or does the entire bleed area have to be 8 x 8 meaning you need to make the layout smaller? And how big does the bleed area have to be?
Is it only me who finds this all a bit confusing? I feel I need someone to show me the whole process!! :o
Lauren
09-08-2011, 06:48 PM
Bett I add my black border before i upload the images - I have an action which does it for me if you want it .
To find your previous photo book ( if you saved it on their site) you go to My account and then in the menu down the left hand side choose my saved designs.
Maggie Macpaine
09-08-2011, 08:50 PM
Really a black border? Curiousity abounds here. I haven't made my first book yet.....
Lauren
09-08-2011, 09:10 PM
The black border is to avoid having the edge of your layout cut off which happens frequently with photo books
sandygb
09-08-2011, 10:12 PM
Another tip for photobooks. I usually create 8x8 photobooks, but I always do my layouts at 12x12. As Lauren says, I also use her PS Action which reduces the size of the 12x12 hi-res jpeg, then centers it on a 12x12 black background. Try to keep your journaling text away from the edge of your layout too. When you drag your uploaded 12x12 layouts from your album into the photobook pages, the 12x12 pages will be adjusted to fit perfectly.

Sandy, that's another great tip because I was re-sizing my 12 x 12 layouts to 8 x 8 as I didn't realise they would automatically adjust when you put them into the book. Thanks so much. :yippee:

http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/freebies/Lauren/Blackborder_lauren.zip
Hi Lauren or anyone else who makes photobooks ...
What size black border do you use on a 12 x 12 layout?
And if you're going to be making those 12 x 12 layouts into an 8 x 8 book, do you use a different size border?
Lauren, I managed to load your action into Elements but if I try to use it, it closes the programme down! Perhaps it doesn't work right in Elements, or perhaps I've not put it in the right place. I put it into Photo Effects, and it doesn't give me a choice of sizes like you said it did. So I'm just doing the border myself.
By the way, I love the handbags! But I'd better make my first photo book before I do anything else.
Lauren

09-24-2011, 05:32 PM
Hi Ladies
I've got another Arts Cow photo book question ... when making a layout for the cover, do you just guess how much will be in the bleed area, or is there somewhere which tells you what size to make it? I've looked in their "Help" but can't find anything.
And ditto for the spine - do you put a background on it and if so how wide should it be?
Maggie Macpaine
09-24-2011, 08:22 PM
I don't know, but once you figure it all out be sure to post a tutorial for all of us who will come along behind you :)
Lauren
09-24-2011, 11:47 PM
There is a template for a cover on the site somewhere - that works really well - you just upload the same image 3 times once for the front once for the spine and once for the back - - the template is here http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=301446
Lauren
09-24-2011, 11:49 PM
btw I got most of my bags in the mail already - you can see them here http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=395956&title=artscow-bags&cat=all - they are a lot smaller than you might think and totally not able to be slung over a shoulder except for the largest shoulder bag and even those straps arent super long .
The bucket bags are much smaller than i imagined even though i read the sizes on the site -- they are great sizes for kids tho... - For me I wouldnt go smaller than the shoulder bag size except for evening or if you really didnt want to take much with you and didnt mind holding it with your hand
Maggie Macpaine
09-25-2011, 06:45 AM
I don't mind small bags, but I certainly want to be able to carry it on my shoulder. If it goes in my hand I end up setting it down somewhere and then must retrace steps to find it.

Lauren
I just used your kit In Cahoots (lifted Mars gorgeous LO) and I am love with this felt look
I was thinking if you can make an element set in this style, squirrels, bunny rabbits etc. I would also love a backpack too.

Lauren...are you planning on giving any classes on the dsp website? I looked but didn't see any available from you unless I read it wrong. I have photoshop elements 4, right now and I know how to get around okay, but I want to know more. I am planning on getting a new computer after taxes this coming year and I am thinking that I might either get elements 10 or maybe get photoshop. I haven't made up my mind which one would be the best for me and what I do! ( I am no designer that's for sure). Anyway...I wanted to learn more and thought about classes and thought sometime you would be giving some.

One of the design classes is on my bucket list.
Lauren....if you are contemplating teaching a class at DSP, I would LOVE it if you would do one on CREATING SHADOWS in CS5. I want my shadows to look like yours......

Lauren's DSU class is here: https://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=962
I'm pretty sure if you did that you'd learn how to do shadows.
vwortman if you're looking for PSE classes, I teach those and they can be found here: https://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=89

Thanks Julia for that - my classes are for PS not PSE - I dont cover shadows in depth though - I did a little tutorial on warping shadows which is on my blog... http://create4u.blogspot.com/2008/11/technique-tuesday-lifted-edge-illusion.html
Lauren which came first for you... scrapping pages for yourself or interest in designing digital kits? Back in the early days of paper scrapping there must not have been a lot of products available for digital scrapping.

I did scrapping first but I only ever did 2 paper pages - I just couldnt get my head around cutting up photos so I did mine on the computer - Back in those days ( perhaps 1999 or 2000) there was only one or two sites and no one sold anything - we all just shared what we made - then a few started selling cds = Kim and I went to a paper site called Pages of the Heart and ran their digital side - and Kim and I decided that a store for downloadables would be the best option and in conjunction with the owner of Pages of the Heart we set up the first ever store for downloadables - it was called Elemental but it was part of PotH- I believe the opening was mid 2003 ( took quite a while in the planning ).- not long after SBE opened a store too - it became quite big with a lot of designers - (not by todays standards though) ...

I did paper scrapping from 2001 to 2006 and completed quite a few books, so probably 300-400 pages. Maybe more. I didn't like the idea of cutting or cropping original photos, so I began scanning my photos to manipulate them as desired. (resizing, cropping, b/w, etc.) I would print the result and use that photo on my paper layout. Early on, I began doing my journaling on my computer and printing it on a portion of paper. (I would print a sample, then adhere a small piece of cardstock or paper to my sample 8.5 x 11, and run it thru my printer again). My computer was downstairs and my craft room was upstairs. I got sick of going up and down the steps all day. (and cleaning up the mess at the end of the day) so I began to explore the concept of "layers" in PSE which I was using for my photos. My first digital pages were created without any kits. I simply used color fills and scrapped much the same way as if I was doing a paper page. I know that my years as a paper scrapper have greatly influenced my digital scrapping style. I got a new computer for Christmas 2005, and high-speed internet. Once I had the ability to download large digital scrap kits (and found the many tutorials here at DSP) .........the rest is history.

I was actually digitally scrapping way way back in 1997 but i didnt call it that then - I was taking graphics off the web ( ick ) and combining them with photos and making calendar pages using a software called Micrografix windows draw - it was actually a really advanced programme for its day - sadly corel took over micrografix in 2001 and abandoned it :(

I loved the idea of scrap pages but hate cutting and gluing so I was very excited to hear about digital on a moms board which directed me to DSP.
Now I supervise two of my daughters and my 2 nieces once a week while they paper scrap. As I am supervising I realize even more how I truly dislike paper scrapping.
You can do so much more digitally and for so much cheaper
My dd sent me a lot of photos when my first grandson was born and I decided I wanted to make a baby album with them. I didn't know about digital scrapping but my teen daughter liked to make funky paper scrapbooks with regular craft materials so I knew about the scrapbook hobby. I went and looked for scrapbook specific supplies but in our small area there wasn't a lot available.
I was familiar with digital graphics and was scanning the photos and using computer fonts for captions anyway so I thought it would be a good idea to look online and see what sort of clipart I could find to decorate the pages. I thought I invented a new way to do a scrapbook photo page using a computer. lol. I did a couple of pages but I didn't think they looked very good so I was searching online to see if there were examples of real scrapbook pages. I was excited to see a result for 'digital' scrapbooks, and found DSP.

I started scrapping after my oldest was born. I loved it, and created some very unique pages. Once she began toddling I realized the impossibility of scrapping. (That and the fact that the kitchen table was my scrapping location and cleaning up was very annoying) So, I aquired photos and did nothing. Then, I got a digital camera. Somewhere along the line I heard about digital scrapbooking and since the photos were on the computer, it seemed like a good idea. However, it still took years before I decided to go online and look at how you go about digital scrapping. So, a little over a year ago I did a search and found DSP. I absolutely LOVE it!! Closing a computer is so much better than cleaning a table! And the LOs surpass anything I could do with paper scissors and glue! Yup....I'm hooked.

I started seriously paper scrapbooking around 2000. I think I put together 2 books for my daughter's baby photos. (I made 2 books and only got to her 5th year). Well, the books were so big and bulky that they started falling apart and I remember how dissappointed I was. I had also cut up a lot of her baby photos which I truly regret now. They can never be replaced. So I was just searching for a better way to put books together and I found the dsp website. I was totally lost about what digital scrapbooking was, but I bought pse4 and learned a little from their tutorials and made a few pages and since then have sold all of my paper scrapbooking supplies at yard sales. This is a lot more fun and I will never go back.

Hope you Cantabs are holding in there tonight.... 5.5 aftershock tonight.
Family will not be impressed if an aftershock takes out the power during the All Blacks game.
Those are all a bit close to you Michelle.

Im Back!!!!!!!!!!
I have thousands ( literally) of photos and lots of inspiration for new nature kits - if i ever get time to process them
Ive put some up on facebook and will get some up on flickr and link them here when Ive done that if you are interested in seeing the South Islands west coast. We had a mixture of weather - from SNOW -( totally unthinkable in November) to nearly over 80 degree humid heat- and everything in between from wind fog rain and sun!!- despite the changeable weather we managed to fit in just about everything we wanted to except the tramp to the beach that has the crested penguins ( sadly it was pouring with rain and its a nearly 2 hour return walk.)
For some reason Kerry and I got a thing about taking photos of various ferns so you can be sure to see a fern kit in the near future - I have about 300 photos as inspiration of various forms of fernery!!

Ive had a good designing day today - using a photo I took of Mt Cook with a field of buttercups in the foreground - (Mt Cook is NZs highest mountain) - - Im in the process of splitting it up so i can package it for the store - hopefully will get that done tomorrow so should get in the store some time very soon - It grew into an XSVC !
While Im here i must mention the like button in the gallery - I love to like layouts - if you are a facebook member its so easy - you just hit like - simple as that and its posted to your wall - then everyone else can see the layouts you like ( I would certainly like your own layouts as an easy way of showing them off - and also when you come across another layout you really like why not share it with the world by hitting that like button

Hey Lauren - and everyone. :) Is there any more news about the Photoshop crop idea in Auckland?
Lauren

I really need to get into planning that - Fernz are going to charge a little more than i thought for doing 2 nights of classes so Im also looking at large houses to rent and motels that have conference rooms - Im still looking at March after Uni goes back .
I might have a friend come with me if you're going to be doing the PhotoShop classes - and if it's OK of course. :)
