Hi All

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Aftershocks are continuing. There are a number of buildings collapsed with people trapped. Lots of liquefaction throughout the city and a lot of roads.

Just watching tv from home now with our family.

For anyone who has family in Christchurch - phones and cellphones are not working that good, so internet is a great way to communicate.

http://quake.crowe.co.nz/ - to see quake info
www.stuff.co.nz - to see reports and photos.

Take care all.

It is awful, I hope there wont be as many fatalities as they are predicting  . Christchurch is such a beautiful city and it is sad to see the cathedral and city so badly damaged.

We have so many members in NZ - quite a few from the Christchurch area. Good to hear from those who are okay. You are all in my prayers, along with all those affected by the quake. If there is anything we can do - at such a distance, let us know.

Timelord checked in Lauren's thread today!

They are all safe, but w/o water & power at her home, so they are staying with her mother.

I am so glad that some are checking in and letting us know that they are safe. Living where I do - earthquakes are always on my mind. My fear is being separated from loved ones and not knowing where they are at and if they are safe when there is a disaster like this. Sending lots of prayers and gentle hugs to everyone.

Lauren, thank you so much for sending this link in reply to my PM. For everyone affected by the earthquake, this is the message I sent:
I just want you and others in DSP to know that my prayers have been with you and your countrymen constantly. Living in Southern California, we especially empathize with your tragedy and wish we could magically remove the hurt and destruction.

It made us feel so hopeful to see a huge United Airlines jet loaded with equipment, supplies, and our local Search and Rescue teams taking off for NZ the other night. We pray that they arrive in time to help save many more lives and to offer support and comfort to those who have been through so much.
Please know our thoughts and prayers remain with you all.
:love1:  :love1:

Amid all the sorrow and sadness at the incredible devastation and loss of life one has to admire the photographer(s) here - what an amazing set of images captured.

Hi all,

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I'm home now and finally have power so internet. Very scary times but my family are all safe. My husband was in town and if the earthquake was 30 seconds later he would have been crushed. Anyway best not to focus on the what ifs!
We had engineers check our house today to make sure safe to be in. Has moved on its piles but is structurally fine. Im just thankful it stayed in one piece as I could not crawl in time to a `safe' place in the house. The engineeers asked me what the earthquake felt like to try to determine how the house has moved....I laughed as I had no idea which was it was moving, it was just moving violently.
We were staying with my mum on the other side of town. No damage at all. It is amazing how you can have an area with no damage then 10mins driven the area is devastated. Like people outside of Christchurch, I have been watching the TV images showing the devastation, as I have only seen a little bit as we are to keep of the roads where at all possible.
It is sad that we will lose so many of our beautiful old buildings, but people are more important. We cannot have buildings that do not meet modern standards. Our new art gallery is testament to that. It has a lot of glass in it, but is totally undamaged and is the new civil defence headquarters (by default as the City Council buildings were damaged in the 1st quake).
We are praying that more people will be found alive, and that the aftershocks drop off as being only 500 metres from the epicentre of the quake we feel them strongly. This will be the 1st night sleeping in our house so will see how it goes!
Many thanks

Hi to everyone, and thank you so much for all your kind thoughts and concern for us here in Christchurch. My family and I are very fortunate, all of us safe and no major damage to our homes.
Your messages of support mean a lot to us. Thank you so much.
All day yesterday and today I kept thinking of what we would have been doing on our DSP Crop this weekend if this hadn't happened.

me too Bett.. - I actuallly was thinking it particularly on Friday because we would have been right there in the heart of the devastation. and of course would be staying in one of the harder hit suburbs too....
I do hope we will do one soon - but it'll have to be in the Auckland or greater Auckland region now I guess.....
