Hi!

I'm sure this question is asked many times, so I'll do it again! :)

I'm looking into both PSE3.0 and DIP10.0, and before deciding I'm in the fortunate situation that I can use copies from work of both! :D

I've been working with PSE3 now for a while and it is just a very difficult program for me. This must be due to the fact that it is the Swedish version and the Swedish PSE vocabulary is not familair to me - what is Bevel in Swedish, anybody?? :)

Now I've started trying DIP (English version) and here I have the good old Microsoft feeling I have using the whole Office suite!

Of course I'm wondering: is this only due to the fact that DIP is English and PSE is Swedish? Or is it, since I'm a Microsoft freak, because DIP is a true Microsoft application - with it's pro's and con's?

Furthermore I have two other questions:
1] How can I use the Bevel technique from PSE in DIP?
2] What differences are there between PSE and DIP? Which techniques are in PSE and not in DIP and vice versa.

Thanx for all your answers!!

What you are experiencing with PSE is the MAC vs. Windows approach to programs. Yes, DIP uses Windows conventions, so it feels more intuitive. PSE, like its big brother Photoshop, used MAC conventions and drives most long time Windows users (especially power users) nuts at first. Nothing is where you expect it to be, or is called what you expect it to be called.

I'm sure Swedish makes it even harder. :D

However, in the long run you are probably better off getting over the learning curve on PSE. Today I was trying to help someone out who needed a DIP tutorial for water drops. I couldn't find one. In fact, except for this site, and one other scrapbooking site, there probably aren't any DIP tutorials anywhere on anything we would find useful once past the beginner stage. I can't say that for sure, but I couldn't find any and I'm very good at google searches.

This is one of those situations where I suggest you get a book. I'd be amazed if the placement of commands aren't in the same place in a Swedish version of the program as they are in the English version.

The programs all seem to cost about the same amount of money, but you will have a lot more support with PSE or Paint Shop Pro.

Hi!

Thanx and that other user....that was me! :D

You're right, I guess you could call me a power user on Windows, so I do recognize what you're saying.

And I've already found out that the user community on PSE is much larger than on DIP... :( But we'll see what the final program will be...

Once again thanx for your answer!!!

I haven't used DIP but I have to say, I struggled with PSE for a while. All those hidden menus - I thought Microsoft enjoyed hiding away useful features but Adobe takes the cake!

However, now I love PSE and I am enjoying its many features (now I know where to find them). I took a couple of Emma's courses here at DSP and they really helped. If you are able, I would suggest you do one of these before making a final decision - that way, at least you have put PSE through its paces and know its strengths and limitations. When it comes down to it - only you know what works for you :D

Personally I think PSE is worth the effort. DIP has some awesome filters that PSE doesn' thave, and is really easy to use, great text options.

PSE does more, is better at making elements/graphics, has brushes.

If you're the type to eat it up and want to do all the cool stuff, PSE is your bet. If you like easy to use, simple layouts, photos with text, using premade graphics, or artistic filters, DIP is better.

I teach a lot of PSE classes here. The intro one is just right for you, DSU 160
I've had Dutch PSP students, why not Swedish PSE? :D

Welcome to DSP! Have a look at the Beginner tutorials for both DIP and PSE and get more of a feel for what you prefer. I use lots of programs, no reason to limit it to just one.
